Gratz! I still haven’t found that guy.
Starting a death knight, late at night, alone in one’s apartment, can be a bit spooky, if like me, you are suggestible.
um, I will actually stand around fishing for 7 or 8 hours … reading on my cell phone in one hand, and looting and recasting when i hear the splash … sometimes longer. there is decent gold in selling odd fish for people to skill up on, and i mane the pigmy oil and other fish based oils as well as they sell well also [or the potions using them do, I do a bang up business in water breathing pots ]
Gah, I’m getting fed up with these “Tastyfish” schools! At the time the fishing contest winner was announced today on Lightbringer, I had 31 Tastyfish, as well as 4 Oily Blackmouth, 1 Firefin Snapper, 1 Stonescale Eel, and 2 Stranglekelps, all of which were pulled out of “Tastyfish” schools. That’s with my bobber clearly completely within the circle of the school - not on the edge (I also caught 7 Raw Rockscale Cod and 1 Raw Spotted Yellowtail from casts that looked like they were in but apparently weren’t. I don’t get it. When I’m fishing any other kind of school, sure, I’ll get the occasional Stranglekelp or the odd chest of one kind or another, but I don’t get other kinds of fish! What is wrong with Tastyfish schools that they cough up different kinds of fish?
And a general fishing gripe: why the hell is it so difficult to get the bobber to land within a school, as opposed to several yards to the side, or over-/under-shooting it? I’m not even a fisherman in real life and I think I could consistently aim my casts better than that. It’s like these schools have forcefields around them.
He’s standing in the exact same spot every time I went back, over the course of 3 days, at odd hours during the day. And he isn’t actually fishing in pools, even though if he moved about 10 yards to the right, he’d be right in one. And there’s about 3 pages worth of Dragonfin Angelfish that he’s listed now.
I have nothing against fishing for hours on end, it’s just a little… well, fishy if you’re there pretty much all day long.
different levels of boredom, as I said, I sit and read as I fish =) and watch TV… it is all gold =) it got me a tundra mammoth =)
Unlike most schools, you aren’t guaranteed to get a Tastyfish out of a Tastyfish School. You’ve only got about an 80% chance of catching a Speckled Tastyfish; thus, on average, about 1 in 5 casts will come up with junk. Sometimes, of course, you may get lucky, or unlucky. The closest I’ve come to winning, I had about 38 tastyfish when the winner was announced, and at least 15 junk catches. Had I been just a tad luckier, I could have won!
Keeping in mind that my DK is blood spec, there actually is a “rotation” you can use. I go for
Plague-Icy-Heartstrike-Heartstrike-Deathstrike
I do sometimes do an “early” deathstrike if I want to top off my health a touch, and if I get adds, I will use bloodboil.
Yes. Just sit back and watch the show, there’s little else you wil be able to do.
I’ve been mining (constantly) for the mats myself. So far, while it’s getting tedious, I am making progress. My mage has the Spellblade, my warrior has the Bonecrusher, Shieldwall, Tempered Boots and Spiked Helm. I still need to make a Destroyer for the DK, and a Spellblade for the boomkin.
I have to get used to the death knight thing. I’m specced Frost right now, and I’ve been advised that Blood or Unholy is better for leveling. I do like Frost a lot, though. I’ve put my death knight aside for now, though, and taken my hunter to Northrend.
4th character (hunter) to 80 last night. headdesk Guess I’ll grind up my mage her last 9 levels and make it my 5th.
The thing to remember with Death Knights is that their abilities work on a disease/synergy system. The basic abilities will give the target a disease (there are two or three different ones). Then the more advanced abilities will cause damage that’s increased by the presence of a disease on the target.
Disease is the general focus of the DK abilities. There are abilities that spread disease from one target to other targets in range, so you can whittle down the health of additional mobs without interrupting your combat with the original one. There are abilities that increase the damage from diseases. There are abilities that require a disease to exist on the target to work (and use the disease to power them, so you have to recast the disease-causing ability).
The whole paradigm of DKs is based on disease (the Plague).
I can’t believe I forgot to mention that I fished up my Sea Turtle Mount a couple days ago
Although some swear by Unholy, I’ve never been particularly fond of it (mostly because of the pet dependency), but Blood is fantastic for soloing (Frost has changed a lot since the early days, so I can’t really comment on it, although I’ve heard it’s more gear dependent). Levelling as Blood, I had no downtime and tore through most of the group quests in Outland, even without equipping any Outland gear (what can I say - vanity - I didn’t want to replace my cool DK starting armour with an Outland clownsuit). At 80, I can solo pretty much any g3, and some g5’s including the Argent Crusade daily g5 (wearing half blues, half purple heroic/crafted gear, titansteel destroyer). If you’re interested, my preferred build is 51/10/10; Glyph of Death Strike, Rune Tap, and Blood Tap help boost the self-healing factor.
Some posts above have mentioned DK’s feel like a button mashing class, but I think that’s one of the trickier aspects of the class - it’s an easy class to play and bulldoze through everything, but playing it well takes thought and understanding of how the abilities interact. As jayjay mentioned, diseases boost other abilities; there’s definite strategy in ensuring diseases stay up while timing strikes and cooldowns to maximise damage output, rune use, and runic power consumption.
I’ve played every class in the game multiple times since I started playing WoW, and it wasn’t until Wrath came out and I played a DK that the way to play a class actually “clicked” in my head. I still haven’t quite figured out the optimum rotation for any other class myself. My DK’s action bars are arranged by the most usual rotation. All of my other classes are still arranged by the TYPE of ability/spell (for pally, seals in the bottom bar, blessings in the middle, healing and related on the top bar, etc.) because I still haven’t had the way the abilities work together “click”.
I prefer to PvP but my already poor gear cannot be upgraded any more without doing PvE or grinding in the arena. I have a 3v3 arena team lined up but the other two players have even worse gear than me. It’s going to be a long grind. The only consolation is that we’re apparently an overpowered group consisting of Rogue/Mage/Priest.
In order not to be laughed at in heroics; I need to work on my hit rating and get a second set of gear. I have a pathetic 1.7k sustained DPS against level 83 bosses.
My problem is that I don’t like grouping with random people, my friends all have their own established groups that they do heroics in.
Silka and I are currently residing in Refuge Pointe, thanks to my friend and fellow Warrior, Amberale (also known as Erdinger).
Amberale is a female warrior and looks very “sexy”, although my friend is male and has a wife (who very graciously lets him play WoW and help me), and kids.
If you do a search in the Armory on him, you’ll find he’s all over the place, yet he takes the time out to help me level and explain stuff.
He even bought me some spurs, so Silka and I could go a little faster!
Anyway, two new flight paths, and we have quests in the Arathi Highlands.
I just got killed by the “forlourn courier” and her entourage (mommy-friggers!:)), so I am waiting to rez.
He even reads my friggin’ blog and asks me about stuff I write in it!
I think I’ve found another good friend, don’t y’all?
Thanks
Q
Forsaken courier. Avoid her and her guards…they hit hard! They go back and forth between Hammerfall in Arathi Highlands and Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills.
But come back when you’re level 60 for REVENGE!
(And yes, every once in a while, my 80 gnome mage will go annihilate Stitches, just for old times’ sake)
I like to go back and slaughter Sons of Arugal in Silverpine Forest. Those buggers caused me no end of pain…
If you aren’t already, give Wintergrasp some of your time. You can turn in Wintergrasp marks for a ilvl 200 Head (40 marks) and Shoes (15) and ilvl 213 Chest (40) and Belt (15). The “of Dominance” variety come loaded with hit, and you can gem them for more to get up to the cap. They’ve good resilience for PvP and the rest of the stats are plenty for heroics.
