World of Warcraft General Discussion

Most certainly.

What I usually do is make rude gestures (type /rude in your chat line) and shout great obscenities (“You chowderheads!”) at the attackers :stuck_out_tongue:
I finally managed to get into BFD. Pfft. What a cakewalk*
*Next time I’ll try it with something less than a lvl 80 toon.

Stay out of it, and you won’t get PVP-flagged and they can’t touch you.

Spit on them.

Som who is going to BLIZZCON?

Just got a ticket from a friend of mine! CHEER!

Wait until you get to the point where you need over a million (that’s right, more than 1,000,000) XP to get to the next level. (Of course, at that point, you’re getting something like 20k XP per quest, but still.)

I like Wowhead, personally. You can browse items by armor class (e.g., Leather or Plate) and slot (e.g., head, leg, or wrist), and there are all kinds of filters you can apply for level and quality. So, for example, you could search for all Rare (blue) Plate chest pieces that can be worn by someone level 35-45. You can then pick different pieces to look at side-by-side. It’s got a lot of options, which can seem a little confusing at first, but if it looks like something you’d be interested in, I’d be happy to throw together a little how-to with screenshots.

What kind of weapon you use as a Warrior will mostly determined by your spec.
Protection: A one-handed weapon and a shield. This is also what you will use while tanking, regardless of your spec.
Fury: Two one-handed weapons until you get Titan’s Grip (must be at least level 60, because it’s a 51-point talent), at which point you will use two two-handed weapons.
Arms: One two-handed weapon.

I can’t look up your Armory profile from work, so I can’t see your spec, but I’m guessing it’s Arms, in which case you want to stick with the single 2H weapon.

If you try to fight a ?? one-on-one, you will lose. Even if they try to let you win, it would take you about an hour to kill them (slightly hyperbolic, but the jist is true–a lot of your attacks will just miss). Something important to keep in mind, too, is that levels of different characters don’t add together to equal one higher-level character: two level 40 characters do not equal one level 80 character. (Not even close–an 80 could tear through a dozen level 40 characters without breaking a sweat.)

If there are a bunch of people on your side who are the same level as the attackers or higher, enough to solidly outnumber them, then you could possibly join in and not get killed. However, as soon as you take any PvP action (anything from attacking a flagged character of the other faction to something as simple as using a bandage on a flagged friendly player), the other side will be able to attack you, and if they see an easy kill, they’ll probably go for it. Or, you could even get caught by incidental side-damage that wasn’t even aimed at you. (There are plenty of spells that are AoE–area of effect–and are targeted at a spot on the ground rather than a player, or affect everything in a radius of a player. Others will affect nearby allies of an affected player.)

I went to Dalaran, having hit level 74 yesterday, and acquired a wolvar orphan. He was a pain in the butt. I took him where he wanted to go, though, and got a new pet for my trouble.

I plan to level up my fishing eventually but I might wait till after I hit 80.

Leveling fishing is such a pain… I got a bunch of levels by doing cooking at the same time (just involved some old-world traveling). Now I only do it through the fishing daily and when I’m waiting for a raid to form (by fishing up coins in the Dalaran fountain or going to my Dragonfin fishing hole or Wintergrasp for Fish Feast mats). But just grinding out fishing levels… um, no thanks.

Fortunately with the fishing daily awards, lures, etc you don’t really need super-high fishing to be able to catch the fish you need for buff food and the dailies.

Speaking of graphics bugs (OK, we weren’t ATM, but we were further up), I had a strange one happen last night.

Friend of mine and I were levelling our Death Knights together in Borean Tundra. We were at that airstrip (Fizzcrank Airstrip?) in the northern part of the zone. Another player summoned and hopped on his gryphon while he was standing next to me and flew away.

Friend: “Hey, when did you get a gryphon?”
Me: " I didn’t – that was someone else."
Friend: “No - you’re right in front of me on a gryphon.”
Me: “No I’m not; I’m standing right here on the ground.”

I couldn’t see anything strange – as far as my screen was concerned, I was standing on my own two feet.

I tried running around, and he still saw the gryphon. I ran behind a building (breaking his line of sight), and when I came back he still saw me mounted on the gryphon. Finally I summoned my horse, and that fixed the problem. The gryphon on his screen disappeared.

There are also plenty of spells and abilities that deal damage back to any player that attacks a given player, so you could end up dying just due to someone’s defenses without his even having to target you.

I’m frankly shocked at how fast I’m leveling reputation. I’ve been making sure to do the Howling Fjord dailies every day, and I’m already halfway through Honored with the Kalu’ak. Compared to the repgrinding necessary in the old world (kill 6000 enemies for 5 rep apiece!), the dailies in Northrend are smooth sailing. I should be able to get the +30 fishing pole without even trying, and even faster if I start going back to Borean Tundra to do the daily there and the one in Dragonblight.

Relevant comic.

I took my 46 Pally through Deadmines yesterday with my friends 45 priest. It was amusing watching the miners attack me until they died on my shield spikes and Retribution aura, without me lifting a finger against them.

I’m playing a Disc priest right now, and I think I’m getting about as much damage on mobs from the reflective shield as from any attacks I make. I usually throw in some DoTs to make them fall down faster, but in fact I soloed a level 40 gorilla with my 34 priest using nothing but shield and wand (plus the occasional renew to deal with the one or two hits the gorilla got in between when he knocked down my shield and weakened soul wore off).

Speaking of bugs, we had the always-fun “holy shit, mobs are coming through the walls” one on Gothikk last night during a quick Naxx25 badge run. Fortunately, I run with a bunch of smart guildies, who pay attention and adapt when you say things like, “Move your asses to the gate so the tanks can pick everything up before it goes after the healers.”

Now, imagine doing it back when you couldn’t fish in a zone if you didn’t have the required level, and there was no in-game way to tell how your Fishing skill compared to the requirements for the zone without attempting it. And even if you could fish, until your skill was high enough compared to the zone minimum you would still get “Your fish got away!” messages that wouldn’t skill you up at all.

You’re going to hit rep levels with the Kalu’ak that will give you equipment rewards well before you can use them. Drove me nuts.

May I post The Ballad of the Noob again? Perfectly related to your comment
(Warning: YouTube video with sound. But very very funny.)

I cannot believe that I hadn’t “discovered” the /yes and /no emotes until just yesterday. I’d flown into Forest Song in Ashenvale, where there is a female draenei “Apprentice Hippogryph Master” (we’ll just ignore the fact that “apprentice master” is a contradiction in terms) next to the male night elf Hippogryph Master, and I happened to stand there long enough to notice the draenei’s animations while she “conversed” with the night elf. I noticed she was nodding her head as if she was saying “yes”, so I thought, “Hmmm…” and typed “/yes” in my own chat line, and discovered there was an animation (and so I then tried “/no”). Weird that I didn’t find something that obvious before now.

I am curious about one NPC animation I’ve seen. I turned in a quest to a female night elf NPC, and she showed her “excitement” by doing a little “run in place” thing that was distinctly different from the usual /cheer emote. I cannot for the life of me figure out what emote will produce that animation. To the best of my recollection this was the only time I’d seen that particular animation, so maybe it was “custom” for that NPC, though it seems kind of odd that they would create a custom animation for one lonely little nelf NPC.

I really wish there was an animation for /facepalm.

Try /clap. My main is a female Nelf, and I’m pretty sure that’s what does it.

ETA: I totally agree on the necessity of a /facepalm animation.

Yeah, that happened to me once in Naxx25 but it was a PuG, so of course it was a wipe… Somehow we pulled a shade through the far wall on the dead side and it killed a healer.

Yeah, that’s why I didn’t even bother with fishing until the patch that removed the level requirements. Doesn’t even make sense lore-wise - why would it be harder to fish in Desolace than in Mulgore?

So has anybody done the new 10-man? I tried the 5-man (only on regular mode) and didn’t really care for it… but that might be becuase I’m jousted out after getting the Crusader title.

Yup, we also pulled a Shade through the wall on the first attempt. That + tons of adds coming at us from the other side = wipe. When it became clear shortly after attempt #2 that mobs were going to keep crossing sides, we relocated from the wall to the gate.

Because the fish are, um, craftier?

We tried the 25-man a couple of nights ago–managed to get through the first boss (of four you have to kill before you get any loot) but our team was short (we only had 18 people) so we couldn’t get past the twin worms. We’ll probably be doing the 10 man tonight.

I don’t really like this new raid–just doing everything in one big room doesn’t really feel like a raid at all. It feels like the Ring of Blood on steroids.

Didn’t like the 5-man, either, because I suck at jousting.

Looks like that’s it. For some reason I was remembering /clap (or /applaud) being a bit more subdued.

Speaking of animations, in one of the new tourney instances last night, we saw that the druid cat has a new ‘eating’ animation that’s very… Cat-like. And sorta cute. Especially if you hit it with baby spice before it eats.

AH curiosity - my draenei mage picked up quite a load of Small Barnacled Clams while fighting naga in Darkshore. Hovering over a stack of 20 unopened SBCs, Auctioneer was showing me a market price of 52g! Does anybody really pay that? I mean, I guess it’s based on gambling that there might be pearls in there, but the only pearls I’ve ever gotten out of an SBC is the Small Lustrous Pearl, which isn’t especially valuable (Auctioneer showing 21s 79c each). And it’s a poor gamble - I only got 2 pearls out of these 31 clams I had. The Clam Meat itself has a good sell price, but still nowhere near high enough to recoup the 52g spent on the unopened clams.
