World of Warcraft General Discussion

Glad you feel like playing again, Hon, and don’t forget to GIVE IN to those nap attacks when they hit!

On a side note? My wife had been complaining that my feet were swelling because of my WoW time, but we discovered it’s my new BP meds that are doing this!

Y’all, my feet look like frickin’ balloons!

Gonna call my PCP first thing in the am.

Quasi don’t play dat!

Thanks

I leveled my warlock as affliction, it isn’t really about burning mobs down fast. You kill individual mobs relatively slow but since you’re healing yourself while doing it you can take on several at a time and the only down time is looting the mobs. It can be a bit difficult until level 30 when you get Siphon Life , prior to that you depend on Drain Life for healing.

I’'m not saying that this is the best way to do it but it worked for me. When I leveled my talents looked something like this:
Level 30 , not much to comment on, mainly got Siphon Life and the talents that increase damage.

Level 42, Curse of Exhaustion is useful when if you need to kite something and Dark Pact and Improved Felhunter keeps the mana bar full. I didn’t spec Shadow Embrace because it depends on Shadow Bolt which I rarely used.

Level 51 , Instant Howl of Terror is just too good an ‘Oh shit!’-button to pass up

Level 62, warlocks get Fel Armor at level 62 which means you no longer get the armor bonus from Demon Armor, I wanted Soul Link to make up for that loss.

Level 71 , finally got Haunt, woohoo! Lovely spell.

Just remember to stack as much spellpower you can get your hands on.

Or spec Affliction and drain tank with the succubus for CC (crowd control) or the imp for mana battery (once you get Dark Pact). Until level 23, you’ll likely want to continue using the Voidwalker, but once Fel Concentration is maxed, you can go for a higher DPS pet. The fun parts about Affliction are rarely (if ever) having to drink, and being able to toss instant DoT (damage-over-time) spells on multiple mobs and just Drain Life them down one at a time.

You’ll need 13pts in Affliction to drain tank effectively, then do something like Immolation > Curse of Agony > Corruption > Drain Life, or skip Immolation if you find things die too quickly. Getting far enough in the talent tree to get Siphon Life helps survivability as well. I’d probably pick up Improved Corruption, Soul Siphon, Improved Life Tap, and toss a point into Suppression to get down to Fel Concentration; I’m thinking something like 56/15/0 would work well for PvE solo and small group activities at 80, although as mentioned upthread, I haven’t levelled my 'lock from 70 yet.

On preview: letting the window sit open for a few hours means getting beaten to the punch, heh.

Re: Mogle’s post, the specs posted look pretty good, although I would actually recommend taking Shadow Embrace; it’s a nice boost to Nightfall and you’re going to want it anyway, whereas Improved Felhunter isn’t really that great, imo - I don’t find the Felhunter to be a very great pet outside of PvP (ETA: except when fighting healer mobs, which is semi-rare and can be planned ahead for). I also would spec down to Haunt before starting in the Demonology tree; Haunt is going to do more for you solo, imo.

Band-Name!

Or at least a name for a guild, whatcha’ll think?

'Course we couldn’t use shit in a guild name, but when I read SFG’s response, and spewed all over my LARGE monitor, I just HAD to write this.

Also, thanks to aruvqan for her help with me and Wolkie/Silka tonight!

I think all of you are just as precious as you can be!

Nice to be thought of, SFG. Here’s a dozen invisible roses you can pick!

one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve (My yahoo e-mail has real “pics” of roses, but maybe these will be okay?)

There’s prolly some in Azeroth too, but these are from me, Wolkie and Silka! :):)

Thanks!

Oh my god. How have I passed up Druids all this time? I just hit level 20 with my Tauren, and I’ve been having a blast.

Ranged DPS? Check.
Melee DPS? Oh hell yes.
Heals? Got you covered.
Tanking? Damn right.
Travel? Hell, you can even swim faster.
Stealth? Comes with Cat Form for free.
Crowd Control? Got a little of that too.
Pets? They’re in a talent tree, but they’re there.

Granted, I know as I level up I’ll have to commit more and more strongly to one or two roles. But after I hit 20 earlier tonight and got Cat Form, I did the following: worked through a kill quest twice as fast as the ones I’d been doing with my bear, tanked for a Mage to bring down an Elite 20, stealthed through Deatholme for assassination and rescue quests, and, of course, kept myself well-healed throughout. The only trouble I had was in a tight spot in Deatholme where 5 enemies jumped me at once, but beyond that it was smooth sailing.

If the Mage had been a Paladin or Warrior, I might have gone DPS or even healed. I thought a Paladin was fluid in what roles it could fill, but the Druid seems to have it beat by a mile.

So yeah, I’m sold.

I don’t have an inkling as to what you just now wrote - but I gather from it that you are HAPPY about it - so I am happy too!

The best Warlock website in my opinion is The Warlocks Den, sure a lot of it is geared towards end game but they have plenty of guides too. WoWwiki has a decent guide for Leveling a warlock also.

My Warlock dinged 48 last night and I am levelling Affliction which, as Mogle says, is probably the fastest way to level your lock because you don’t have to stop to drink ever, just Life Tap for mana coupled with bandages (max out First Aid as soon as you can) and Siphon Life\Corruption heal keeps your HP topped up. Each talent tree is viable for levelling but they result in different play styles so:

Affliction = DoT as many mobs as you can, keep your health topped up by whatever means then watch them fall mwahahahahahaha. Fear\Howl of Terror\Death Coil to get you out of trouble. The more mobs you kill at one time the better.
Demonology = Doesn’t get going until you get the Felguard really (many people suggest levelling affliction until level 57 then respec so you can get a Felguard and Improved Lifetap) then you have a superb tank and DPS pet so it’s a bit of threat management as you DoT mobs to death. You can’t kill as many mobs at a time as Affliction but you can take on single higher level mobs easier I think.
Destruction = You are a mage in all but name, kill mobs with burst damage. These days levelling destro is an option but you picked a warlock not a mage for a reason right?

Quoting myself to point out this was wrong you only need one Zesty Clam meat per meal, I misread my screen originally. One tip - Zesty Clam meat was going for about 80s a stack of 20 on the AH on my server. A lot quicker than farming turtles though I will probably do that anyway as I am off questing in The Hinterlands next.

I tried Arathi Basin last night and it’s a blast as a level 48 Warlock, I am a killing machine topping the kills twice. Instant cast Howl of Terror is a joy.

I love druids. We affectionately tease our guild’s deep-Balance druids (Moonkin form), calling them “Boomkin” or “Thunder Chicken”.

My druid is lvl 80 and feral/bear spec’d and geared. One guildie likes doing the Heroic dungeon Achievements, so we hit Azjol-Nerub the other night. He had never gotten the achievement for killing the last boss in under 4 minutes (“Gotta Go!”), but we got it that night with me tanking. My husband was playing his resto shaman and kept griping at me to get hurt more so he’d have something to do. Finally partway through the run, he told the (all-guild) group that he was switching into his DPS gear. (My only complaint about the last fight was that I sucked at noticing that the boss was starting up his Pound special attack, which does a lot of damage. At least healing me then gave my husband some variety!)

Farming honor

Since Martu mentioned Arathi Basin: I’ve been having a blast in Wintergrasp this past week, sometimes earning over 200 honorable kills and 5-10,000 honor points in one battle.

So now I’m hooked…but WGrasp only happens every couple of hours. I’ve tried Strand of the Ancients, and the battle was OK, if not a bit chaotic, but I didn’t seem to earn nearly as much Honor Points as I usually do from WGrasp.

What are one or two other battlegrounds that you’d recommend that are fun and provide a good opportunity to earn Honor Points (and shards, too)? I’m a level 80 hunter.

edema sucks … hope you can change out the med for one that doesnt make you like like a balloon!

and Im tired of falling asleep all the time … I have to DVR any interesting program because I never know if Ill be awake for the whole thing =(

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Balance druid referred to as anything BUT a Boomkin.

Yeah, I saw your earlier post (with the 5 meat per meal claim) and told myself, “oh well”. But then did the quest anyway and was able to raise my cooking skill by 14 points with the extra clam meat I had squirreled away.

OOMkin…

Hah. I’m running a shadow priest. I bow to no one in my ability to run out of mana quickly in an instance.

“Thunder Chicken” seems to be our preferred one lately, though I’ll admit at one point I was trying to think of the “real” name and kept thinking “Boomkin” really was it!

I got the “hold on-little spear-big spear” quest last night but didn’t try it till this morning. I fell off, but I got the wyrm down to about half health before I did so, so I think the next try or so might be doable. I also bought the fancy Giant Ring Belt from the quartermaster. Slightly more mana! Long fights mean lots of pet mending so I appreciate the mana boost.

Black Morass, when I can get into it, sucks like a big sucky thing which sucks. I can’t solo it, I don’t want to subject the guildies to it again and again, and PUGs are pretty much not happening for it. (I sometimes feel that other people read “Black Morass,” and then put me on /ignore forever.) So I checked out the availability of the transmute mastery materials. I put together four Primal Mights from auction items and farmed motes in about forty-five minutes and had transmute mastery soon afterward. To celebrate, I tried my Saronite to Titanium transmute and got two bars, in addition to a new transmute discovery. I’m going to use transmute mastery to make some money (the thought of my gem transmutes proccing is making me almost drool), then switch to elixirs. It’s what I should have done in the first place, as has been pointed out.

I’m also doing the Sons of Hodir dailies as often as possible. There are so many and the benefits are so good that it’s well worth the time. I am slowly replacing my greens with blues. Once I hit 80, I am going to try dungeons (with my rep-gaining tabards on) and explore the other things the game has to offer. My guildies love battlegrounds, Wintergrasp, and the Argent Tournament, so I will try those.

I also did the Crocs in the City fishing daily again and got Chuck’s Bucket! He is so cute. My friend and I met up in Stormwind so he could fish, and we had a pet show and tell. He has a batling. I want one, but they are so expensive. I am definitely a pet collector. I even managed to get Timmy’s white kitten completely by accident–on my DK, though, not my main. It is very funny having my tough Blood-spec DK walking along followed by her adorable little kitty. It matches her hair.

The Spear quest for Sons of Hodir is easy once you get the hang of it. Any kind of HoT is useful but not necessary, as is any kind of shield/protection spell you may have. And even as a mage (made of glass) I can get it done 9 out of 10 times. Start with 4, then 3,3,3,etc till you have <20 grip, then 1,1,1 until grip goes up, 4 when CD is up, and repeat. I ignore the dodge stuff altogether.
Then in phase 2, just 1,1,1,etc until you get about 10-15 and hit 3. The closer to 20 buffs you have the better your odds, so just watch your health and 1,1,1, until you are almost dead, then try the 3. (This is where my 1/10 fails comes into play)

It’s one of the more interesting quests in the game.
Good Luck!

Ah, i tend to hit 1 a bunch of times, then stab with 3 until the dragon tries to swipe me, dodge, hit the big spear, and then repeat. And then hit 1 about four times, hit 3, then hit 1 until the 3 cooldown ends, then repeat until the bastard dies. I think the extra low-percentage shots are worth losing a couple rounds of jaw-prying, but I haven’t exactly mathed it out.

One time I did kill the dragon with my big-spear hit and wholly bypass the jaw-prying minigame. Unfortunately, all that happened was I fell to my death without getting credit :(.
