Oh! Okay! I’ve just always been going to Lyria, because she’s, well, female, and she’s got those things stickin’ out (even though they’re behind armor).
I guess I have a “thang” for female toons in Azeroth.
Let’s see, “Account Created: 15 April 05 11:11 CEST”, and it was the first character I ever created, as a comparison the hunter(inactive for now) I rolled in april/may -06 got 38 days played and only 2 days at 80.
Ilsa Corbin in SW is female. (If you’ve been going to the starter trainer for all of your skills, you might actually have a lot of new stuff to train. Make sure you check the training option, too, while you’re at a capital city trainer.)
What on earth are we going to do when they end WoW? (Fingers crossed for “play WoW2.” :p)

ETA: Just had an awful thought…what if Cataclysm pushes tech requirements past what my 7-year-old computer can handle?
This has been a big concern for them, since accessibility is what makes WoW so successful. I’d say that if you can handle Northrend, you can probably handle post-apocalyptic Azeroth.
Personally, I’ve been thinking of Cataclysm as WoW2. It’s such a huge revamp of the entire game that it may as well be new.
Upgrade parts. It’s amazing what a little extra RAM will do, or a new video card, or a new processor. Although seven years is probably getting to be the time that you should just replace the whole damn thing, anyway. Do you have any friends who could help you build a new one? (It’s really not that hard, and it’s way cheaper to build your own than to buy one–so you can either end up with a store-bought equivalent for cheaper, or a store-price one with better performance.)
I have started the Argent Tournament stuff. I do not like jousting. I make about 120g a day from dailies, and those are just the ones I’ve found so far. There are probably more lurking around somewhere. I’m up to revered with the Sons of Hodir now.
I’m actually only on the Aspirant’s Challenge. I still haven’t been able to beat that Argent Valiant. I nearly did the last time I tried, so I will keep at it.
My idiot’s guide to jousting (because I’m the idiot in question):
Build the shield buff up to three.
Issue your challenge.
Target the opponent and stay close at first. Hit 1 (attack) whenever it refreshes.
When your opponent runs off to get set up for a charge, hit 2 (shield-breaker) when it becomes usable, then immediately run (not charge) up on the opponent’s tail and start attacking. Get close enough that they won’t be able to do a short charge. Spam the attack button hard when they’re down a shield buff because you do a whole lot more damage when they’re at less than 3 shields. Refresh your shield right after you close, so that you reset the duration.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until target is defeated. This takes a while but is very low-risk.
Hell, I am currently playing on a refurbished HP dv7 I picked up online for $750, with absolutely no problem. I cant run more than 2 instances of wow or eve online at the same time though … but i can have a browser open and flip screens to look up maps and stuff online at the same time.
I got it on ubid … please note i have no interest in ubid, i dont make money if you go buy anything there, it is just a decent place to get refurbished computers…
I’m pretty awful at jousting too. I have the basic idea, but still have to work at it in order to win. I find it much easier to do the “kill x number of those guys over there” quests.
Right now, I’m hoping we get more character slots - I want to start a goblin when they become available.
This is more or less my strategy. My version is to spam 1 and 2 (attack and shield break) constantly, while backing away from the target until such time as the shield breaker attack goes off, at which point I close in again. Oh, and occasionally hit 4 (refresh shield). I just don’t mess with charging except against the Scourge down near Icecrown Citadel.
I’d have to dig up a cite, but I’m pretty sure they said nothing doing, and that the percentage of people with all 10 slots on a server filled up is actually really small.
Initiate the fight. the opponent will start moving towards the center of the ring.
As soon as the opponent is at charge range, charge. Try to hit “1” as you pass by during the charge, as well. That way, you get in a double-hit.
After the charge, wheel around and try to hit the Shield-Breaker. If you have enough range, you’ll be able to get it off. Many times, you won’t though (especially when you are just learning).
Close the distance immediately.
Begin trading blows at close range until the opponent peels off. Recharge shield as necessary.
As soon as the opponent peels off for a charge, stand back, and charge as soon as you are able. Again, try to hit “1” as you pass.
Repeat steps 3-6 until the opponent is defeated.
A charge will drop 2 shields on your foe (though they will often immediately recharge, so it will look like only 1 was dropped). If you can get in the shield-breaker during the wheel-around, you can effectively drop their shields by step 3, and begin wailing on them at close range while they have minimal or no shields. In many cases, they will peel off again before they have fully recharged their shields, which allows your subsequent charges do a lot more damage.
It takes some practice, of course, but eventually, you’ll be able to get through a full set of valiants without even healing
I’ve seen other people using Darwin’s method, but I get so turned around on charges (and my framerate is often pretty bad) that I prefer my pokey “spam shield-breaker & keep close” method.
It can get pretty confusing on the turns, especially if the arenas are crowded. I’ve accidentally lost my target a couple times, which always ends in tears…
