World of Warcraft General Discussion

You are automatically partied with the rest of the of your Horde (or Alliance) when you join a BG, so your fish feast can be used by anyone in your party. I do like to drop a fish feast at the starting point to give our side a slight boost in the beginning.

Also, when you (a palladin) are partied up with other pallidans, have one cast Greater Blessing of Kings, the second cast Greater Blessing of Wisdom and the third cast Greater Blessing of Might…all three blessings will be effective for all pallidans in your party up to some specific distance (I think).

My Ret pally uses dragonfin fillet (+40 STR & +40 STA) for soloing. Can’t remember what spec your pally is though…

Thanks for all the gratz regarding our new level 1 human (that made me chuckle lizardling) though to be honest he looks more like a level 1 gnome at 2 weeks old  Not sure what class he is though, he cries quite often even though he has it easy in life really so maybe a pally??

 Taken lots of screenshots of him and his twinked-out gear yet?

Back when I played EverQuest, one common complaint was the long loading times between zones. The common joke between couples I knew who got pregnant during the time period that they were playing the game was that sure, the game playing may have consumed a lot of time but you had to do something while the next zone was loading…

That’s some world class drama right there.

Ha! This made me laugh.

So, the Burning Dog Legion run of Dire Maul North was moderately successful last night. It’s really fun (for me, anyway) doing these instances that are unfamiliar and difficult enough to be challenging.

A couple of times we aggroed mobs we weren’t fighting and at least once it caused us to wipe; I think we wiped twice (or was it three times?) overall. But we cleared most of the instance up until the final door. Unfortunately we didn’t realize until that point that if you die before you get there, you lose the key you need - so without a rogue or a key or explosives, we were stuck. I’ll remember to bring one of those next time just in case, although I think now that we know the layout a bit better we can probably do it without wiping. Oh, and I dinged 58; yay for me! I was hoping to learn Greater Blessing of Kings but it looks like I have to wait for 60 for that.

Next week is the night before Thanksgiving, so I think we’ll skip a week and go back in two weeks on Dec. 2.

snerk

Q: How many rogues does it take to kill a pally?

A: Two. One to fight him in Wetlands and one to wait stealthed at the inn in Ironforge.

For future reference, I think that if whoever gets the key doesn’t release and instead waits around for a resurrect, they should keep it. At least it works that way for a similar item for the daily quest in the Old Kingdom in Northrend.

Good thought, that’s worth trying too. Curse on me for not being lazy enough to wait for the priests to come back!

Oh, and, yay! successful H VH tank; it was kind of chaotic and I think one of the dps’s (an elemental shaman) seriously outgeared me and wasn’t holding back; I lost aggro on a couple of the bosses to him. The first time, he died; the second (Cyanagosa) I was ready for it and taunted the dragon back on to me a couple times. But I mostly managed two of those split-up groups and basically held everything together with just the one DPS death.

Those split groups can be a bugger if you don’t have dps that can pick them up for you and then dump aggro on you like a hunter or a rogue. I’m not sure what kind of tank you are, but DKs and Pallys probably have an easier time of it since they have AoE aggro-grabbers.

DK - yeah, I dropped a death and decay next to one of the ramps, ran the other way, and zapped a blood boil and a howling blast and led them all into one group. I think I still had to taunt one other, but anyway, it more or less worked.

Bubble-hearth FTW!

Minor drama regarding my guild…

  1. From last weekend’s Uld10 run, a hunter (also a guild officer) rolled for some purple bracers off Razorscale. He was the only roller and won. Then we notice that it’s a BOE item; our policy for that is everyone greeds for their twinks/selling/whatever, but if you need it as an upgrade, then you can Need roll. We ask if he needs it, he says yeah, we say OK, you keep it. Fast forward to last night, when one of our officers sees that person has put the item up for sale in the AH.

Now, see, we used to have a policy where on a raid item, no matter what it was, you passed on everything. That way you could take your time to look over the item, compare stats, do calculations, etc. With the change in the UI to allow for easy gear trading within the raid, and more stat comparison means, we recently changed our policy to BOP (Need for the spec you’re here on, Greed for your other spec) and BOE (all Greed unless you do need it for upgrading either spec). So if it turns out he actually didn’t need it, he should have been more careful about checking out his gear, and should have let the others have a shot at it. Much discussion, finally the GL talks to him, and it goes into the guild bank with an apology.

  1. As a reeeeaaaaalllly casual raiding guild, we often have motivated raiders end up taking off. That’s fine. We also have had splits over various drama. One drama incident that would take way too long to explain ended splitting the guild a year or so ago; the GL of that guild has since apologized to my husband (the GL at the time of our guild, IIRC) and said she now understands tough decisions and drama.

Part of that drama is from her husband. Dude loves to push buttons. He was warned a few times, when he was in our guild, about running his mouth in Trade chat, dissing other good guilds and generally being a jerk. Since they split off, he’s been in and out of her guild a few times, with her kicking him out each time IIRC. So this past weekend, he acts up again, and I forget if she kicked him out or he /gquit, but he told her, “(Old Guild) doesn’t know these two characters’ names*; I’ll just join them.” We don’t have a strict recruitment/referral process or anything.

So, she warned us! I don’t know if he tried to get in or what, but two days later he was back in his wife’s guild. :smack: Yesterday I was AFK for a while, came back to the comp and scrolled up to check messages - one of those characters had hugged my druid. One I’m not supposed to know about, remember. While I was AFK-flagged. WTF.

  • One was GM-changed for being offensive, the other was created after the split.

I’ve always had raid leaders make the person who needed for the BOE item equip it immediately before continuing on. It’s amazing how stupid people can be, he couldn’t even have an alt sell it for him.

This guy sounds like a real winner. I would say, even if he did manage to “sneak” into the (Old Guild), his attitude and antics would quickly reveal him as the jerk he sounds like.

I don’t know if this has been addressed in this mammoth of a thread, but does anyone else use special controllers or game pads and such?

I’ve got a Nostromo n52, and it changed my gaming life. I’ve been wanting to get the swanky Logitech version, but I can’t bring myself to do it while my n52 still works.

I’m also curious if anyone has gotten that Naga mouse? I don’t think it would improve my game experience since I have the n52, but it does look neat.

Yeah, Jbone, I think you’re right - he can’t keep his mouth shut enough to avoid making his own wife /gkick him, so he would have been flagged as Big Trouble fast enough. As for the officer and the bracers, he’s a good guy; we’re willing to chalk it up to massive brain fart (among other things he’s dealing with major marital troubles while being stationed away from home with his military position) and move on. It was just a “WTF, really man? You know better.” minute for most of us, with one rabid officer ready to get out the wood, stake, and matches.

That’s awesome! And while you don’t get the extra-fancy title, server-second is nothing to sneeze at.

I’ve transferred servers twice, although neither time was to get out of a good guild that just had too many raiders. It’s a huuuuuuuge pain trying to find a guild that (a) has the progression you want, (b) has a schedule that matches yours, (c) had attitudes and policies that match yours, and (d) has an opening for your class and spec. (Doubly so when I moved, because I was trying to match all four for myself **and **my pocket healer.) If you’re getting really frustrated with having to sit all the time, I would say… start looking, but don’t burn any bridges yet. Talk to friends–coming into a guild where you already know at least one person is going to be infinitely easier (especially since you’ll get an insider’s view of the guild’s attitude and policies and how those differ from what the guild advertises itself as). Roll alts to talk to guild officers if the guild’s site or recruitment thread doesn’t give the info you need or if you have additional questions to ask.

Because she’s overtrusting, well-intentioned, and forgets history very quickly. There are reasons I’m not in that guild anymore, and frustrations with some of her policies are a big part of that. (She’s actually now modified the rule so that you only don’t get invited back if you were kicked for a reason other than idle time, but the guy in question had left/been kicked and reinvited repeatedly before that change, too.)

It’s six tabs, IIRC.

They’re over-full on raiders and they’re still recruiting? :dubious: All classes/specs, or are they only actively recruiting ones they’re still short on? Are they trying to get two 25-man teams going, or what?

IME, it’s good to have one alt dedicated to being the “guild banker.” This character clears out anything extra, auctions or vendors it, and deposits the proceeds back into the gbank. (Technically, it doesn’t have to be an alt–I just find that to be the easiest way, since you’ll know that any money the toon has belongs to the gbank.)

I shiv you both and ninja the whole bank… much drama!

The Quest Helper log can be moved anywhere on your screen. If you mouseover the quest writing, you’ll see a little gray rectangle pop up. Click and drag that, and the words will move with it.

Terminology note: The little armor man that shows up in yellow and then in red tracks your equipment’s Durability. Yellow means that that piece has very little Durability left, and red means it has none. A broken (red) item will not function at all. Having it equipped is exactly like having nothing equipped in that slot. As others have recommended, repair every time you can. (I actually tend to seek out vendors who can repair in addition to buying my trash items.)

Because I raid, I always tend to keep at least a few hundred on me. Usually, at any given time I have a few thousand gold. It’s very, very easy to make money at 80. (Which is good, because gemming and enchanting armor and paying for repairs when you wipe can get very, very expensive. At least I have 150g a day in repairs from the gbank. :D) For your level, 800g should be more than enough.

The one major expense you want to keep money aside for is the Riding training you’ll need at level 60 in order to use a flying mount. Without any reputation discounts applied, it will be 50g for the mount and 250g for the training–a total of 300g. However, you will get a 5% discount for every rank of reputation you have with Stormwind: 5% off for Honored, up to 20% off for Exalted.

Psh, the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask. Well, except for that one question. We don’t talk about that one question.

It will never hurt to know your faction/race/class/spec, and there are many times where it will help.

Feasts are nice, because they buff you and your raid at the same time. (For BGs, anyone else in there will be in a raid with you. For WG, because the zone can contain more than 40 people per side, there may be people who are in the zone but not in your raid.) A good individual food for a Ret Pally might be something like Dragonfin Filet: 40 Str/40 Stam. IMO, Str is better than AP, because it will scale with buffs like Kings.

Also, when you (a palladin) are partied up with other pallidans, have one cast Greater Blessing of Kings, the second cast Greater Blessing of Wisdom and the third cast Greater Blessing of Might…all three blessings will be effective for all pallidans in your party up to some specific distance (I think).[/raid]

AFAIK, Greater Blessings should stay on you regardless of your distance from the person who cast them, as long as you stay in the same raid.

Note that with two Pallies, you can have one casting Kings and one casting either Might or Wisdom depending on the target’s class/spec.

Yay! I never got to run DM at-level. Mildly amusing to me, since my home server was Eldre’Thalas…

Love it.

Awesome and well done! Even as much as I overgear Heroics, I **still **hate doing that one.

Warriors actually have good snap AOE with Thunder Clap + Shockwave, and then lolcleavespam to help hold things. The real problem with VH on a Prot War is Rage. There’s generally juuuuuuust enough time between portals for all of your Rage to drain away from the last pack, leaving you scrambling to pick everything up if Bloodrage is on CD. (Thanks, Blizzard, for having us drop combat between portals. Jerks.)

Good rule for BoE epics: the person who wins the item as an upgrade **must **equip it as soon as it is looted to them so that an officer can inspect them to verify that the item has been Soulbound. They obviously can go back to their previous piece if they don’t have the mats on them to chant/gem it–the idea is just to verify that they can’t sell it.

I’ve found that even starting at 55 with a DK, I have absolutely no problem buying the basic flying training or a basic flyer. In those 5 levels, especially if you jumped to Outland as soon as you could escape the DK starting area, you should EASILY have at least 500g to burn. It’s the swift flying that kills you. I STILL don’t have it on my first DK, at 80! That 5000g is tough.

By the way, MDSL I didn’t get to say it last night, but welcome to the Burning Dog Legion! You rolled a new DK, right? Let us know if guild chat if you need any help with levelling or gear. There might even be stuff in the gbank you can use, if you can wade through it all.

How does the SpeedPad work with WoW? Do you use the pad for WSAD movement and then click abilities? Or do you have its keys bound to buttons on your action bars and then move your hand back to the keyboard if you need to strafe? The Logitech Gameboard looks sexy as hell. As for the Naga… I thought about it, but the button pad just strikes me as overkill. Too easy to hit the wrong thing at the wrong time.*

Personally, I use a Logitech MX518 and a standard keyboard.

Funny story: last night, one of our Shamans was clicking gear links in raid chat to see the stats on the items that had dropped. He has his bars hidden. One of his bars is under his chat log. The button that was under the link he clicked was Heroism. He therefor burned Heroism and sent us into a 10-minute CD while we were looting. :smack: We ended up all suiciding outside to remove the 10-minute debuff so we could use it as soon as the actual ability CD wore off, but it was still hilarious.
