World of Warcraft General Discussion

I figured it out, jay. When he throws his ranged weapon and the monster approaches, Wolkie auto-attacks. When he doesn’t throw, then he just stands there till I right-click him.

A question an answer to which I couldn’t find in WoWhead.

I’m on a quest called Alien Ecology (I’m Alliance Warrior). I am supposed to scrape samples off larvae hanging from the walls in the Gorishi tunnel and put them in a vial.

Okay, he’s in the tunnel and he sees the larvae hangin from the walls (he’s also pulled killed a bunch of bugs and flying things.)

Now he approaches the larva sack, clicks on the vial, but instead of scraping and putting the stuff IN the vial, he gets a mesage telling him: “Requires Gorishi Hatchery”.

Huh?

“Requires”?

I’m confused. I’m told to scrape samples off the larvae and put 'em in a tube.

Nobody said anything to me about a “hatchery”.

Thanks, jay and sorry you’re having to wait so long.

Q

Anybody else think he looks like he’s wearing a plate halter top?

Quasi

Garr. One Gnome Rogue away from the Pilgrim title. But if Dalaran is any indicator, the only gnomes ever actually created are Mages and Warlock. Grrr.

I quickly reaching the conclusion that rogues are the least popular class in the game. That, or all the rogue players are just playing their alts this week to be contrary.

Also, it seems that every (Alliance) feast area is overrun by nelf druids. Yup, paladins are OP. That’s clearly why there are so many freaking druids.

ETA: Oh, and:

And pink-pigtailed DKs.

Can you blame them, really? I did see a single Gnome Rogue that had already been turkified on the steps of one of the Dalaran banks. There was a Hordie there /poking and /begging and /crying to make the rogue click off the turkey costume, and the rogue wouldn’t. Frankly, the Hordie was being so annoying that I wouldn’t have been accommodating either.

And naturally, as soon as I complained, I found a Rogue lurking around the Stormwind Bounty tables. Yay [Pilgrim]!

My guild had someone make a level 1 gnome rogue (named “Shootmebroom” of all things!) and we all went to coldridge valley with our turkey shooters. Popped off about a dozen Turkey Lurkey achievements and more than a few Pilgrim titles in under five minutes with that.

Now that I moved into that section of the game, if I go back to EP, does that make a diff? What I mean is, the game doesn’t “revert” to WoW, right?

I realize that sounds like a dumb question, but I’m all over dumb questions. Hey, somebody’s gotta do it, right?

Thanks

Q

I’m probably being particularly dense, but what’s “EP”? If you mean back to old Azeroth, no, the game won’t revert…you’ll retain your level (if it’s over 60) and all your character traits and talents. Once you have Burning Crusade installed, Outland and Azeroth are just different locations.

EP = Eastern Plaguelands, I presume.

:smack:

and thanks for the answer, jay

I THOUGHT maybe diff. terrain etc,

Q

Yeah, that quest is a bit annoying since other than the fact that you can use the vial, there isn’t anything that indicates where you’re supposed to use it.
IIRC, you need to go the the center of the first chamber to left when you enter the hive.

He’d been away a long time, fightin’ for Azeroth and his Woman

Begging for forgiveness… or something

Y’all, this took me over two hours to get right, trying to remember all the steps, and I still screwed up! Forgot to minimize, so this post would get lost.

Tried like HELL to remove all the writing, but nothing would work for me. Not ctrl X, not alt X, not SHIFT X, nothin’! EVEN tried with the letter Z!

Then I had to edit and zoom and contrast and brighten 'n shit, and I did all of this very slowly, so I wouldn’t forget a step, and then of course I did, and had to start all over. I know y’all could make it look better, but this was the best I could do with what little knowledge I have of computer photographs.

Anyway, Wolkie and his Heather would like to offer these pics as a
Christmas
present to everyone in this thread and in appreciation for all the help you gave me, (many times twice or three times and for being so patient with this dweeble named Quasi.

So they send their love, best wishes and HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL THE WoW DOPERS from Wolkie and Heather at the Sentinel Hill Inn!!!

A PS from Wolk’: "That roof still ain’t been fixed! Them guys have been at it for at least a year now, hammerin’ night and
day! Well, whatta you gonna do, huh?

Maybe we shoulda got ol’ Quasi to check Angie’s List!"

Thanks for all the help y’all. Really.

Your friend always,

Quasi/Bill

Well, I finally shelled out for dual-spec on my 80 pally. I decided that if I’m going to be fooling around in BGs, I ought to have a PvP spec to go along with my PvP gear. So I went with this build I found on WowWiki, the “Panic Heal Ret PvP (5/15/51)” build:

Here’s my armory page showing my PvP setup.

The build on WowWiki didn’t offer any advice regarding glyphs, so I did the best I could with what I could find on the AH:

Major: Glyph of Seal of Command, Glyph of Judgement, and Glyph of Divine Storm

Minor: Glyph of Lay On Hands, and Glyph of Blessing Of Kings. I couldn’t find a third suitable minor glyph; any suggestions are welcome.

Since this build will be using different abilities than those I’m accustomed to, I guess I’d better put some time in on the target dummies so I can get used to my new action bars/abilities.

Geeeeez … Saturday’s foray into Warsong Gulch was a strange experience. For some reason there was at least one dwarf warrior and two gnome rogues running around naked. I’m not sure what their deal was, but they were actively participating in the “battle”, not just taking up space.

The battle went all the way to the time limit, with the Horde finally winning, 2-1. I think we were 10+ minutes into the thing before the first flag was captured. After looking at the post-battle stats, I think I saw the “problem”: The Alliance team was almost entirely melee: paladins, warriors, rogues, and DKs, while the Horde team was almost entirely casters: mages, priests, and warlocks (with a couple paladins thrown in). So every time a Horde player grabbed the Alliance flag, they’d promptly get pounded into paste, and every time an Alliance player grabbed the Horde flag, they’d be hit with a succession of Frost Novas/Fears/Mind Controls, etc. so we’d keep ending up stuck in one spot and unable to defend ourselves.

In any case, I ended up 5th in total damage done, 3rd in healing done, got in 5 killing blows, was credited with 44 honorable kills, and earned another 871 honor points.

If a major city (in my case, SW) is under attack, would my toons movements suddenly become “jerky”?

I was in the barracks just now for warrior training, and all hell was breaking loosew downstairs. Wolkie suddenly couldn’t move and then he could, and then he couldn’t again.

I didn’t see any notification that SW was under attack, but there were bodies all over the place when I got downstairs.

I just wondered if a sudden influx of horde on a city would cause this and put a strain on the game.

I know. It’s probably my server, but just thought I’d ask.

Thanks

Q

Well, when a capital city gets attacked, the city spawns a crapload of guards (ones you normally don’t see, but they’re there … waiting) to deal with it. That might do it.
Oh yeah, and Keliraeda, my belf pally, hit level 70 tonight! Now that I can finally do the Shattrath fishing daily, I did so, and on my very first try I opened the reward bag and got the fishing hat and a Golden Wedding Band  The hat allowed me to fish productively after I headed up to Howling Fjord, despite my abysmal Fishing skill of 290 (been slacking on that).

In a race to get to 80 as soon as possible I tried two different ways of questing with assistance.

  1. On my belf warlock I followed Jame’s guides, here is the Alliance page detailing your first quests in Outland Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide - Chapter IV (60-65) - Wow pro (I have linked to the Alliance version as I know Wolkie is human, there is a Horde version available on the site also). It involves alt-tabbing out of wow or printing the pages but I have found it very easy to follow and quick.

  2. I downloaded Carbonite (http://www.carboniteaddon.com/) to use on my human pally. It is a big addon that has a lot of stuff you might not need so be aware, it has eased questing and I find the scrollable map to be very useful. When Blizzard introduces quest help in the next patch I’ll probably uninstall this if I can find another map addon that has the ability to zoom in\out as well as this.

I got both toons to 50 before I bothered with assistance, until then I was using wowhead when I was stuck. I got bored of vague quest demands, if the quest giver is telling me to kill certain mobs surely they could clearly pinpoint where there are on my map?

Realising that my wow time is going to be seriously curtailed in the next few months trying to be an active member of two guilds (one Horde, one Alliance) is really impossible. So I bit the bullet and did what I had been thinking about for a while and moved my belf warlock over to the Alliance, I now have a female gnome (pink pigtails obviously…) warlock called Noether. I’ll post a screenshot as soon as I can as she looks awesome next to her felguard.

Pleased with the faction change process, I was worried that some of my PvP gear would be lost but it was switched over correctly. The only issue is that my quest log was completely wiped when I thought only my Horde specific quests would be gone. Not a major issue but I had picked up all the Sunken Temple quests in preparation for the Warlock level 50 quest (I want that scythe!) so I will be travelling for a while to pick them all up again.
