Grats Boss!
Rumors are that patch 3.3 goes live tomorrow, so you may want to reconsider the break.
My lock has dropped back to my least-played 80, unfortunately, behind my priest, druid, hunter, and even mage. They’re cool but I just can’t seem to find a sweet spot for good damage-dealing.
I would suggest getting used to using the mouse free-look option while flying. That is using the w key (to move forward) and then using right-mouse-click-hold free-look option to navigate along with the a/d key for turning. It’s complicated and takes some time to learn, but it pays off when you get it.
For me landing is simple doing a nose dive into the ground. Alternatively if I’m landing into a fight, I dismount in mid-air above my target. You do keep some of the forward momentum, but if you time it right, you can dismount in mid air, get an instant cast ability in, and land right on top of your opponent. I have my flying mount bound to my “g” key which will summon him, but also dismount him if I hit it again.
There is a pretty annoying learning curve for mounted combat. Here is my strategy for the daily quests:
-Have 3 shields up on yourself
-Never charge if you opponent has 2 or more shields (the reduced damage is a waste of your charge cooldown
Congratulations! The first few new raid attempts are always a good adrenaline rush. It sounds like you had a good time. A lot of people don’t like raiding. I was skeptical when I first started, but love it now and try to raid whenever I get a chance.
Other than that, my guild had our first Naxx 10 run since the reorganization. We had a lot of new 80s that dinged or recently joined. For the officers, it was more of a team-building run, we did great. We cleared Arachnid and Plague quarter. We were going to give up on Heigan after everyone couldn’t get the dance down. One of the members said to try the safe-spot option. We were originally going to break up the raid since we didn’t want everyone’s repair bills too high. A couple of the guys decided to try to find the safe spot for the next run. As it turned out, no one wanted to leave and they all came along as well! So me(healer), tank, and the guy who kinda knew where it was went in and everyone else stayed out. After sucking up a few blasts we finally found the spot. We wiped it up and the rest of the crew came in. We started the fight and all got the achievement without any problems. It was wicked easy, but I feel kind of bad for the others (I had the achievements already) that we didn’t get to “earn it” the way it was meant to be had.
I’m still trying to figure out where I stand in the gear/skill continuum.
Wasn’t on WoW much this weekend, but I still got some more quality alt time in. The Priest is now 50 and the Mage is 69 (and a decent chunk of the way to 70).
As people have said, just aim for the ground. Once you’re on it, you can run along on winged Silka like a normal ground mount (and take off flying again anytime by pressing the spacebar to go up), or you can dismount by clicking her again, or by right-clicking the buff that shows you mounted. You don’t want to dismount up high in the air–you’ll fall to your death. (Important note: if you’re over deep water, you CAN dismount in the air. But make sure the water’s deep enough to swim in–if it’s just wading depth, you’ll still die.)
Yeah, your “paper doll” is your character equipment window–the one you see when you hit “C.” It’s called a “paper doll” because you can drag and drop your various bits of equipment (including ammo) onto it, like dressing a paper doll.
IME, only use SB when Charge is already on CD. The “strategy” they teach you with the training quests… doesn’t work for actual jousting.
1.) Start close in, mashing the 1 key (melee attack, whatever that’s called).
2.) When the opponent starts moving away, start mashing 3 (Charge).
3.) After the Charge, mash 2 (Shield Breaker) while you run towards your opponent (if you’re far enough away), then go back to mashing 1 once you’ve closed to melee range again. Lather rinse repeat from Step 1 until you’ve killed it.
Blizz never fixed the AI there. Huge pain.
There is currently no mechanic in the game to change a character’s class (and I doubt there ever will be). Death Knights are whole separate characters–although, if you wanted, you could certainly create one and think of it as the DK version of Wolkie. ![]()
Grats! And an especial thumbs-up for staying the fuck out of the lava waves (and, presumably, the void zones). Most people have problems with that at least their first time in.
My po’ neglected 'Lock is only 40-something.
Personally, I fly the same way I run, mostly–using both mouse buttons + Autorun (which I have bound to one of my thumb buttons on the mouse). Sometimes I’ll throw a little Spacebar in there, too, when trying to gain altitude fast.
Since Quasi’s Wolkie is a Warrior, that won’t work for him, but I’d suggest what I sometimes do–target the mob and hit Charge as soon as it lights up, while I’m still mounted and in the air. Because of the range limitations, you’ll never get dismounted so high up that you’ll take lots of fall damage.
There’s actually no reason to ever stop mashing 1 during a joust - it’s on a separate cooldown from the shield/shield breaker/charge - unless of course you’re worried about your poor keyboard.
Didn’t get to play much this weekend, just ran the heroic daily a couple of times. Oh, and sold a couple of enchants for about 800g which was nice. (Reminder to self: make more Enchant Chest: Powerful Stats scrolls).
Also got my new Warlock up to 21; it’s nice having a mount so early now. She’s having a much easier time too since I switched her spec from Affliction to Demonology.
Gonna try to get in an Ony or ToC raid tonight - it’s unfortunate that Monday is my most convenient night to raid, since most people have already done them and are locked by Monday.
My 'Lock is leveling as Demo, too, and I love being able to pump my VW up into a really good tank for me. (FWIW, my Hunter is BM, too.)
True–it won’t **hurt **anything to keep mashing it. Just won’t have any effect if you’re out of melee range.
Yah. I find it takes fewer neurons to just keep the 1 button mashing than to worry about whether I’m in melee range or not.
I think this is much more true for raiding than for heroics. With good enough gear, you can basically faceroll through most heroics. A bad player with BIS in every slot will still die to raid encounter mechanics or do something stupid that wipes the raid, this is not as true in heroics unless the guy is a total idiot.
An undergeared tank or healer makes an encounter a lot tougher and an undergeared DPS frequently gets carried though the dungeon.
It might make you more popular for PUGs.
I suspect that if soulbound items could be disenchanted, the AH would be flooded with shards and enchanting mats and the shard cost would probably start to approach the vendor value of the items.
Take a look at frostweave on most servers, you can almost always get some for about 150% of vendor value.
Would it make you feel better if the LFG function listed you as an enchanter? that way at least you would get picked up more frequently.
The only time I made gold as an inscriptionist was when it first came out and when they allowed dual specs and everyone was glyphing up their second spec. Even then only the minor glyphs and the rare glyphs went for very much. The rest seemed to be used by folks for skilling up and because glyphs don’t even have a vendor value, they can get very very cheap indeed.
This isn’t so true anymore. If ToC5 is any indication of what we’re going to see in the ICC 5-mans, we might be expecting more than just standing in place and button-mashing from the DPS. In ToC5, I’ve wiped (when running with people other than my friends) because of things like a dumbass melee DPS who, despite me having warned him, doesn’t move the fuck out of poison clouds and whirlwind, so the healer splits his attention between the DPS and me (instead of just letting the DPS die), with the end result that we all die.
That’s actually a good idea.
Well this is probably what’s going to happen now.
I guess the main point I was trying to make with the “How much would a tip be if soulbound items would be disenchantable” comment is that enchanters should get some kickback for providing the service.
If you asked an enchanter to DE a bunch of green items, how much do you tip? Now if you could take your soulbound gear and instead of having to vendor it, how much would you tip an enchanter to DE the same number of soulbound blue/purple gear as the green gear above? I would hope you would pay more to get the shards/crystals over the dust/essence.
I would prefer the whole free-for-group DE thing just removed for the time being. I have a geared tank/healer so I have 0 problems finding a group already. I’ll just have to group with guildies in order to keep the chances of me getting the unwanted dungeon drops to DE.
Oh hey, that reminds me of mini-drama with our guild (or rather, one member) this past weekend. I had a crappy week at work last week, and didn’t feel like raiding. However, I offered to fill in on an Ulduar raid as we desperately needed another person. Grind grind, through the raid, and we get to Kologarn. One of our Chatty Teen Boy members is going ape because he has to log out at 9 server, as his parents will have a fit if he doesn’t, and the clock is ticking. (It’s a known thing with him, and he specified that when signing up for the raid.) We get Kologarn down, check out the loot, and say bye to that player.
So it’s time to check the guild and a friendly guild for a replacement. Our guild leader caves in - she hates raiding but will come to help down the Cat Lady and maybe another boss. Another of our Chatty Teen Boys plays a tank DK, and as we finally get the GL there and we start talking strat for Cat Lady, this DK suddenly says in raid chat, “My bro’s home, gotta go” and logs out immediately. No, there was no indication of that being a stop reason ahead of time.
GL starts steaming as we have to get a replacement for him now, too, and it was tough enough to get her. Then she starts hearing complaints about how he’d done that in maybe 3 other guild raids that week. Different people had been in those raids and/or not necessarily known that these weren’t “excused” departures - and he hadn’t made anything clear about whether these were “emergencies” (hyperbolic example: his brother will beat him if he catches him playing WoW after a certain time) or not, but we started putting pieces together there.
She writes him an in-game letter saying, among other things, that if she got one more complaint about him, she’d gkick him. His response was to quit the guild.
OK, tying this in to SFG’s anecdote - one of our more infrequent and odd-hours players logs in over the weekend and checking the guild log, notes the quitting of that member. Apparently the DK had called him “the worst resto druid on Sen’jin” - because same said DK would stand in the poison on HToC and expect the druid to heal through that. He also once held up a run that included this player because he had to regem and re-enchant his equipment right then, and took about 20 minutes doing it. He finally gets there and says they had to make this quick because he had a raid soon. :smack:
DK is now in a semi-raiding guild on our server. I can’t wait for him to pull one of those stunts and get bitch-slapped.
I don’t know about void zones, although I did die for no apparent reason along with like 5 others after we dropped Vesperon. We skipped Vesperon’s portal but headed inside Shadron’s; no deaths there. The Raid Leader made sure to tell us about the lava before we started on Sarth, plus Reins was hammering it into me over Guild. You bet your ass I was watching for it. How stupid do you have to be to get hit by the lava after all those warnings?
We pieced together an Ulduar10 run yesterday, and downed FL (one-shot) and XT (two-shot). It wasn’t graceful, but we did it. Wiped on Razorscale though, since people couldn’t decide whether to focus on the adds or on Razorscale herself. We did get her down to 46% on the first go, so hopefully tonight we’ll have more time to focus on clearing her.
I also finished the last Timear Foresees, got to Exalted with the Sons of Hodir, and got Jeeves made.
With all that done, BRING ON 3.3, I SAY!
Yup, I know - but my guild breaks for Christmas. We raid consistently three nights a week and we’re all grownups with jobs. Hard to get our 25 mans together this time of year. We’re pretty much on top of content - just started hard modes - so we’ll be fine. Going to be bored before the xpac comes out, I suspect. Happens.
Surprised you can’t find your sweet spot? I can pull 6K DPS in current gear, could pull 4K in Naxx gear. Destro is the way to go. Have a look at my talent spec if you want to raid. I can PvP - have gear for it with all the extra badges - but I don’t cause I hate it so all my stuff is raid oreinted. I do admit you need to play a bit - the rotation can be a bit wonky so I started out with shot timers but now it’s all by feel. Afflic is…doable. But if you have to move your feet at all, it’s impossible.
Right now I need new trinkets desperately, but I spent my DKP on shiny, shiny T9.
