World of Warcraft General Discussion

Have you readDr. McNinja? I’m way behind on that one, but I used to read it all the time.

Haha! And again I say, “Haha!”

I just made the most interesting discovery. Playing my troll hunter, I had just put my Hunter’s Mark on a Bloodsail Swashbuckler and sent my turtle at him. But before my turtle could get to him, a jerk Alliance player ran up and tagged him. So I said, “Screw you, I’m not doing your work for you!” and and called off my pet and set him to “passive” so he wouldn’t attack.

Then my turtle and I ran away … but the Bloodsail dude continued to chase my turtle, even though the Alliance player had tagged him and his nameplate was gray — I guess the one hit my turtle got in generated more threat than the Alliance player’s one hit. However, I didn’t want to kill the mob and give the other guy free credit, so I kept retreating … and when we all got far enough away from the Alliance player, the mob’s nameplate turned red, making it once again “my” target and it’s HPs didn’t reset!

I had never seen the “ownership” of a target change like that. Pretty cool. And funny.

Haha!

Some bad news…

The Lovely Charm drops have been hotfixed. You can’t get them any more from vehicle kills, nor from the Frenzyheart and Gorloc armies.

Question for the more experienced Beast Mastery hunters out there …

My previous forays into huntertude have been in the Marksmanship spec, and I’ve always used Aspect of the Hawk. But my current troll hunter is specced Beast Mastery, and I get the impression that I should be relying more on my pet than on my bow for damage output. Is this a correct assumption? And if that is correct, am I also correct in guessing that I should be using Aspect of the Beast (+10% melee Attack Power for both me and my pet) rather than Aspect of the Hawk (a fixed amount of ranged AP for me)?

I’m using a Tenacity pet, if that makes any difference in the answer.

The one in Ashenvale isn’t tough to get to. It’s in the far northeast of the zone. I wandered in there as a lowbie from the adjacent Alliance camp when I was levelling and was wiped out by a dragonkin. Months later that was the only dragon that was home when our guild went hunting so we took him and his cronies down.

I don’t know how to do that. Is it complex? I’m willing to try pretty much anything. Even to the point of getting off my wallet to bring in the Geek Squad or something. I love Lord of the Rings and am actually reading a couple of Christopher Tolkien’s books on how they were created right now. The lore is awesome. But the game is not for me. Not only do I lag but it’s just too nicey-nice. I really miss WoW.

Yeah I still have herbs and skinning. Good cash but lousy bonuses. Especially for a tank. That’s why I was thinking of making the switch. Here’s my toon, BTW:

First off, GRATZ to my guru, SFG for her recent power-level accomplishment. I don’t pretend to know what all that means, but I can see from your UI, that you must have some awesome reaction-time goin’.

Secondly, we made it to level 65 and are currently doing some quests in Nagrand.

As always, I appreciate any and all advice and if someone would take a look at us in the armory and make some suggestions, I’d appreciate that as well.

I gave up on the following for now:

  1. The Exorcism of Col. Jules - I just don’t know WTF the quest wants me to do. I engage those flying wisp/skulls but cannot seem to make any kind of “headway” protecting the exorcist.

  2. Cleansing the Bones: Dude, I just cannot FIND them and I’ve been ALL OVER that damn skeleton. Thanks for the help though!

And over in Nagrand and the quest, “Bring Me The Egg”, why is that matriarch bird so hard to kill so that I can get her broken talon? She hovers over Wolkie and it seems no matter what I do, she takes him down really fast.

No one’s dropping any potions and consumables lately, so I’ve had to buy some from the AH and vendors, so that I can restore my heath.

Thanks

Quasi

Thottbot is your friend, Quasimodem. Just wade through the fail advice to figure out what you need to do. And watch out for outdated info. Blizzard updates these quests so posts from 3 years ago might not be the straight dope.

The Jumpatron quest was fun. I remember it. You have to use the device to jump up to fight the bird.

Oh and I was talking to my guildies on Vent tonite. They were failing at the weekly raid. Trial of the Champion. I felt bad for them, don’t get me wrong, but it did make me feel needed that they were struggling without me as MT. They say I can reformat the C drive just by telling the computer to do that after I boot it up in that special way. I’m gonna check to see if my wife needs these pictures she has on here or anything then give it a try tomorrow.

Yeah, I have learned to go to thotbot first before coming here. (I like it more than any of the other “help sites”), and I didn’t use the trampoline to get the egg, but just flew up there and opened it, and then flew back down and waited on the bird.

There are a LOT of answers about the “Cleansing” quest on thotbot, and a couple that I may have missed are:

  1. I have to kill an ooze before the bones appear and

  2. The bones don’t shimmer but are near some felweed (which would keep me from looking all underneath that man skeleton)

I’ll try those when I log back in.

Also a question: Those floating islands with trees over Nagrand? Are those safe to rest on with a log-out?

Thanks, 2sense!

Noooooooooooooooooooo! :frowning:

/bow I can’t imagine giving up mining after the amount of time I have put into it, hit 450 last night and that has taken me, oh, just over a year. Give it up? No chance.

Strange coincidence alert I also downloaded and had a look at OmniCC and Satrina’s Buff Frames for the first time last night (long time Grid user though) and I’m a fan. One thing I couldn’t work out in the brief time I had on last night was how to make the buffs grow downwards instead of upwards if you know what I mean? I set the rows to 2 and with only a single buff it was on the bottom row not the top row so I had a gap above it. I’m sure it must be a setting but didn’t see it last night.

Are you using the free one or did you plump for premium? I have passed the critical mass of add-ons and need to do something similar though I don’t want to pay for it.

Last night Sagan met the Lich King for the first time (a quest in Zul’Drak, don’t want to spoil it but if you’ve done it I’m sure you’ll remember) he kindly let me live. The fool. The encounter that leads up to it also is a good lesson in don’t stand in the pain on the floor though it wasn’t until my second attempt I realised this. Doh. Failed again at the Giant riding q so I have left that for now and moved to the Basin hoping to pick up some Titanium as I quest now I am able to smelt it.

48% into level 78 and counting….

Yes but you really should log out at an inn for the Rested XP bonus.

I’d use wowhead.com over thottbot.com. Wowhead is faster, has a better interface and also has more helpful comments.

Some other sites a new player should have bookmarked:

mmo-champion.com - General WoW News
worldofraids.com - General WoW Raiding News
elitistjerks.com - A forum dedicated to discussion about class performance, mechanics and theorycrafting.
wowwiki.com - General WoW Wiki
wowinterface.com - WoW addons, compilations and nifty UI tools.
curse.com - Same as above.
worldoflogs.com - A nice utility to log raiding encounters.
wowprogress.com - The standard by which raiding guilds are measured.

Good luck, and enjoy your adventures in Azeroth:cool:

Agree with the wowhead versus thottbot thing. Thottbot is full of a lot of comments like ‘I’m only a lvl 20 priest and I did this quest in 5 seconds!’ Wowhead doesn’t allow these bragging-style threads, so it’s usually much quicker to work your way through to the helpful comments.

That sound you hear is my head beating against the wall as another guild falls by the wayside.

Last night we we told that two of the raiders in our small guild are leaving to do 25 man content in another guild and another told us they’re leaving the game at the end of the month, when their subscription runs out. I suspect another one will be leaving since he’s said he’s interested in 25s as well.

We were making decent progress in ICC 10, having just killed Rotface and starting to work on Putricide and Princes.

First, let me sing the praises of Army of the Dead; sure, there are a lot of times when you really don’t want to use it (any fight where positioning the boss is important, or any fight where crowd control is an issue), but it sure can be a lifesaver.

I did Pit of Saron as my daily last night, and we had a healer who was a bit under-geared. I didn’t inspect him or anything, though one of the other players pointed out he was wearing a blue hat; but he was having a hard time keeping people healed up, even on trash pulls and similar. Plus, he didn’t know the fights and didn’t ask to have them explained, so we had a wipe on boss #1 when he didn’t know to reset his frost debuff; partially my fault for not explaining, but by now I pretty much expect everyone to actually know the fights.

Anyway, Army of the Dead comes into it because in both of the later boss fights, the healer went down with the boss still on 300-400k life [1]; seeing that, I pretty much instantly popped AotD, healed myself up with a few Death Strikes while the boss was busy fighting ghouls, popped all my defensive cooldowns once the boss picked me up again, and managed to finish out each fight with myself and one or two of the DPS still standing. It helps that Ick’s rapidly exploding mines don’t target Army of the Dead ghouls.

In another topic, a question for the Ret pallies out there: do you take a third point in Judgments of the Wise? At the moment, I’m staying pretty much full up on mana with 2 points there, but I don’t know if that will continue to be the case forever.

1 - on Ick, he stood inside the Poison Nova radius; on the final boss he got frozen.

Burning Dog Legion dungeon run tonight! Random BC dungeon - we’re about at Blood Furnace level.

I set up an event on the guild calendar, so if you want to make sure you get in the group, go ahead and sign up. Last week (for the first time, I think) we had to leave someone out of each run because we had six people.

Judgements of the Wise isn’t just for yourself – the talent provides replenishment, which is a short duration mana regeneration buff for your group (or raid). 3/3 is basically mandatory in raid settings. Now, if you’re in the process of leveling, which I’m going to assume you are from your post, then 2/3 will probably be sufficient.

OK, the latter just happens sometimes, but standing inside the poison? Really? :smack:

Yeah. In his defense, he didn’t know the fights. On the other hand, he didn’t TELL me that he didn’t know the fights. I think he was also a relatively new player, and to his credit, once I explained what I wanted him to do in terms of crowd control for that uphill segment, he did a fine job.
