World of Warcraft General Discussion

WTF, I could have sworn there was more to my post–I meant to also add that my main is now a JC, and if there are any general questions you have, I’d be happy to answer those.

Makes me think of this song… (borderline NSFW, but quite a great song!)

This one seemed pretty comprehensive.

This is the one I’m going to use once all of my mats have been mined.

That was freakin’ brilliant
Hey, guess what y’all? My belf pally got to the end of the Drakuru quest line in Zul’Drak last night, which meant the Betrayal quest. You know, the one that gave me so much grief on my human pally? Well, I decided to have a go at it, and I was able to complete it on the first attempt, and only needed two trolls to get the job done  Yay!

OTOH, I elected to just skip that “ride the giant” quest. I just didn’t wanna.

Hey.

Thanks for all the advice on the Fel Reaver.

I’m wore out, little ones.

I’m wore out.

Thanks,

Q and Wolkie and my Silka

Hit 70! Did all the southern Howling Fjord quests except the seal sexin’-up daily (Ewwww…). Just checked in at Camp Winterhoof, grabbed the fp, grabbed the available quests, and logged out for the night. Just missed Cauldros Isle for the Explore Howling Fjord achievement. Have to do that tomorrow.

Oh yes, one other thing: Belf paladin! Level 80! Woohoo!

So that’s 2 level 80s, and one more coming up soon (my draenei warrior).

I’m trying to work out Dominos but with a druid and the multiple forms we assume, how did you decide how to configure the bars? I noticed that the bars all stay visible by default when you shift, and was puzzling how one might get the “form” bars to switch out when you shift form, if that’s possible in this addon.

Hey, not sure if you looked at my UI pic, but I basically only have 2 bars visible at any time (bars 1 & 2). Bars 3-6 are hidden unless I mouseover them (they are on the right side of my screen). This is configured by right-clicking on the bar, and then changing the opacity slider. Bars 7-10 are the bars that switch places with bar 1 when I shift forms, and I generally keep them entirely invisible. I can’t remember exactly which bar coincides with which form, but a little trial and error should work fine (I believe it’s 7 = bear; 8 = cat; 9 = moonkin/tree). If you’re having issues where when you switch forms the bars don’t change at all, I’m not sure what to do about that, but I can get back to you later tonight when I have some time to play and look at my bars.

Also, I use quite a few macros with [form:1/2/3/4] conditions in order to make the 2nd visible bar to also change based on the form I’m in. You can also use [stance]. Here’s an example:

#showtooltip
/cast [form:0] Wrath; [form:1] Challenging Roar; [form:3] Pounce

This will cast Wrath if I’m in caster form, Challenging Roar in bear form or Pounce if I’m in cat form. It’s a pretty useful macro format to know for us druids. Here are the form/stance numbers (from WoWWiki):

* Stance 0 is default - never changes
* Stance 1 is bear - never changes
* Stance 2 is aquatic - never changes
* Stance 3 is cat - never changes
* Stance 4 is travel - never changes
* Stance 5 is for moonkin or tree of life - never changes - or could be for flight form.
* Stance 6 is for flight form. - changes if moonkin or tree are not available

So, this is the main way that I get more than one bar to change for me when I shift forms. I’ve found that I can get pretty much all useful abilities for any form on 2 bars. The invisible bars are mainly used for things like making a campfire or logging a combatlog to parse, etc. Let me know if this helps, and if you have any more questions I will try to answer them after I get a chance to look at my UI in game (later tonight).

Grats!

As I can’t do instances at the moment, young baby in the house, I’ve hit a bit of a wall on my 80 pally if WG isn’t convenient I struggle to get into questing (currently going for Hodir rep) or levelling up Cooking and Fishing. So I am trying each class, got a rogue to 13 but stalled there however last night rolled a Hunter and damn that’s a lot of fun. Got to level 10 and my first pet in one sitting, easy for sure but also very enjoyable when the mob drops at your feet just inches from pummelling you

For any hunters what do you use for a range finder? I’m sure it’s something you learn with experience but I find myself moving back and forth trying to get to maximum range by looking at my action bar not the most elegant way I’m sure.

When using the default UI, I tend to target a mob that I know is too far away and just run toward it until my action bar lights up. This will serve you pretty darn well, and it’s not too hard to get used to. Now that you have a pet, you will find yourself worrying very little if the mob is at maximum range, so long as it’s not in melee.

If you absolutely must know the number, a UI mod called RangeDisplay will run the same visual check that you can do with your action bars, but does it with all your abilities with different ranges and it will use this info to give you an approximate range from the target. If the target is further than your max range it won’t tell you how far outside your range it is. I don’t think you need it, but it could be somewhat helpful until you get an intuitive feel. You can find it on curse.

I’ve since moved on to Borean Tundra. One thing I’ve noticed about Borean that I don’t think I’ve seen in HF is that they have a fair lot of world elites in that zone, and for at least half of them the questgivers that tell you to kill them give you something to either spray, feed, or stab them with that will make them non-elites. I’m not entirely sure why this mechanic is used so much in BT (and possibly Northrend generally, though I’m not sure…I hadn’t noticed it before despite having had at least two other toons who got up north).

Didn’t play this much this weekend but got my new healing pally up to 29. Unfortunately he’s at that stage where the DF keeps putting him into Gnomer shudder. Should almost be ready for SM, though, thankfully.

Last night I was doing those “Battle for Hillsbrad” quests including collecting 30 skulls and killing peasants and farmers. It was great - I’d pull a farmer and beat on him until he ran away. While he was gone, I’d heal myself. Then he’d come back with one or two friends, and I’d repeat. Just kept going and going. So nice of them to keep bringing me new skulls!

Had one bad PUG with my priest – we were doing CoS and the DK tank kept dragging behind: we’d kill one wave, everyone would head for the next wave and end up waiting around for the tank to follow us. By the time he caught up, the next wave was coming. After he got tired of us telling him to hurry up, he pulled a wave and dropped from the party causing a wipe. Two more dps quit, and then the last dps (a pally) and I were joined by three more paladins. Let me tell you, four paladins and a healer make for a very fast run.

I gotta admit, enh shamans are very cool. Mine finally dinged 60 and is in outland. He’s still a little undergeared, but managed to stay alive while beating on four 60-61 Stoneflayer Alphas that he was unable to outrun before they knocked him off his elekk. How I know there were four is because I counted the corpses afterward. I’m just not used to playing a class with that much survivability – main classes are hunter and holy priest.

Speaking of the hunter, we headed into ICC10 and said hi to Deathwhisper. That’s a pretty interesting fight, but apparently our healers kept getting locked out of healing and mass dispels? I got Curse of Torpor a few times but I’m not sure if that’d account for what they said. Either way, I was working on the fanatics and dpsing the shield in between while our tanks picked up the waves and we had one or two melee dps on the shield full time. We haven’t been able to last through p1 all the way yet but we still did pretty well for a first night, I think.

Thank you.

snarl, wail, gnash of teeth

I finally got my mage’s Cooking up to 300. I had a stack of Buzzard Meat and the Buzzard Bites recipe ready to go, so I immediately started cooking the whole stack and went off to browse websites. It wasn’t until I was nearly done with the stack that I realized I was capped at 300 and I’d wasted an entire stack of skillpoints. :smack:

Ouch!

Grats on the dings, all!

Go take a nap. Have one for me, too!

My highest Hunter is in her mid-40s, but I do not use a range finder (nor do I use one on any other ranged classes). As someone else mentioned, I usually start out of range, then move in until my abilities are enabled. (The numbers on your action bar will be red when they’re out of range, then go white in range.)

From what I recall, it’s something they did in general in WotLK. My theory is that it was to keep an epic feel to certain questlines while not requiring you to group up as often.

Don’t forget: You don’t have to use the *random *dungeon matcher. All that gets you is a bonus blue item and a little extra XP/money. If there’s a dungeon in your bracket you hate enough to forego the extra goodies, you can just select specific dungeons you would actually enjoy running. Check out the drop-down menu in the LFG interface.

just not used to playing a class with that much survivability – main classes are hunter and holy priest.

Yes, Curse of Torpor is the problem. People should NOT cast when they have it, it should get decursed ASAP, and if a decurser is affected, they need to be sure to decurse themselves first or they’ll go into lockout.

Ouch. I’ve done that a time or two–though fortunately mostly with gathering professions, where at least I’m not wasting mats.

Thanks, SFG. Good to know, and I’ll pass it on for next time we tackle ICC. We had a disc priest and two trees, for the record. Hopefully I’ll be able to be there next time the raid says hi to Deathwhisper.

Question though for you progression raiders – how much ammo do your hunters tend to blow through on a single night?

And to martu, yep, that’s what I do. Given that my range is probably a bit over 40 yards (I’ve never bothered to zero it in), I haven’t really needed to know. I just click on the mob and trot up until my buttons have just turned white. With practice you can use your peripheral vision to catch the color change and stay focused on the main events.

Ouch! You made me cry a little

Yeah, I know. I’m in the habit of doing the random for the blue item and extra xp, but really, at best I get a piece of gear to use off-spec. I’m never going to get any useful healing gear as my bonus, because it’s all mail, and doesn’t have caster stats.
