That’s what the guild website says, and what I was specifically asked about after I was invited last night. I had to exit the game and download both DBM and vent because I had neither (I totally hadn’t really expected to raid at all…ever). Then vent took me five minutes to figure out the configuration for…how lucky am I to have found a whole new aspect of the game to be a noob about?!
If I hadn’t had vent I’d have had even less idea what I was doing than I did. I have to applaud our raid leaders…it was their very calm talk-throughs that kept us alive as long as we were. If I’d had to read the explanations of the mechanics I’d have been completely lost.
And makes it so much easier to laugh at people that stand in void zones!
Seriously though, for me WoW is primarily a social game. That’s why I spend 80% of time in-game raiding, and on vent. We talk, we laugh, we wipe, and occasionally we kill a big ol’ boss and get phat purps. What’s not to like?
Oh, and I’ll put another vote out there for DXE if your guild allows it. It has too many noise alerts by default, IMO, but all of them can be turned off. Good times, good times. I’ve used all three of the big boss mods, and it’s my favorite currently.
Hahaha, the wide range of noises is one of the reasons I lurrrrrrve it–after I do a fight enough times, I can tell what’s happening just by the “dong” or the “boi-oi-oi-oing.” But as you said, you can turn them off–which is one of the sexiest things. E.g., I couldn’t care less on my Warrior that Nether Power needs to be dispelled on Jaraxxus, so away that one goes. But I’d definitely want to pay attention to that one on my Mage, so I could keep it enabled and add a screen flash, e.g.
As far as I know it’s just for raids - there really isn’t much that you have to know about in heroics. Certainly the default settings for DXE don’t do anything in heroic 5-mans.
DBM does work for heroics, though, or at least some heroics. I remember seeing DBM notices in Forge of Souls and Violet Hold, but I don’t remember others clearly.
In Heroics, DBM gives you things like timers – how long it took to take the boss down; when the next VH portal is going to open; when Arthas will be done jabbering and start cleansing Stratholme already. I think it also tells you to run away from exploding ghouls in ToC. But it’s mostly minor info you don’t really need.
Oh right. You’d think I’d remember that, since we ran ToC5 twice before the raid. :smack:
That one’s actually really helpful to me. I never remember to run away from the ghouls otherwise, and I’m always near ground zero even as healer since I need the tank to pull ghouls off me.
DBM has modules for both 5-mans and BGs, which is one thing to recommend it if you mostly do those and not raids. DXE definitely is only used for raids. BigWigs I can’t remember 100% for sure, since I haven’t used it in quite some time, but I want to say it’s only for raids, too.
Okay, I quit EOD Feebs, went to the SW guildmaster and asked to purchase a guild called “Slightly Demented” and the guy took the money, and then my next option was to make a tabard, but the game won’t let me do that, because I am not the guild leader.
So I tried to make myself the guild leader in the Armory, but Slightly Demented doesn’t even show up under Wolkie’s name, so what do I do to make myself the guild leader so that I can make a tabard?
I’ve never gone through the process, Quasi, but I know that to create a new guild you need to get some “signatures” from a certain number of non-guilded players before the guild becomes active. Those players can than quit the guild.
You’ll often see people in SW or other cities looking in chat for people to sign their guild charters, sometimes offering money for signatures.
Ah! You mean I need to “advertise the guild”, right?
Well, I would like to have this guild be “entry level” and for those who may have trouble understanding the strategy for whatever reason - in my case being that I’m mentally challenged, hence the name.
Folks would then, as they become more proficient, choose to stay and help others or leave as they like.
I would like it to be a “helpful guild” with no pressures on anyone, and basically, I would just like to help others as y’all have helped me - even though I don’t raid or group all that much.
Even if I’d be the only member, I’d just like to try.
So,what - get 10 signatures, pay 'em one g, register the guild and then let those 10 drop out?
I’m still with the SW guildmaster, and tried to re-purchase the name “Slightly Demented” just to see what would happen, but he says “You can’t carry any more of that item”, meaning, I guess that that name’s already taken by me.
I started to go to guild chat and advertise the guild, but then backed out because I don’t know exactly how that’s supposed to play out?
Do I need to enable something in the interface that will allow folks to sign up, and what’s that going to look like on screen.
I just don’t wanna look foolish (more than I already do, I mean! :))

PS: Thanks, Skammie. I’ll just hang for a while before I do anything!
Purchasing the charter is just the first step. Now, you need signatures. Sometimes, you can get signatures by parking in newbie areas and asking anyone who isn’t in a guild; other times, you have to pay.
Note that if someone signs another charter or joins another guild before you get all the sigs you need, they’ll drop off your charter. So if you’re going to pay people, my advice would be a small portion (no more than half) up front, with the balance to follow once the guild is created. I’d personally suggest 1g when they sign, with another 4g once the guild is complete.
You can let the initial people stay in the guild, or you can kick them as soon as the charter is complete and the guild is formed.
What they said is right, but they didn’t actually tell you how to get the signatures. I believe what you do, once someone has told you they will sign, is target the person (by clicking on them, for example) and then right-click the Guild Charter item that should be in your bag. There might be one more step where you click “Invite playerX to sign your guild charter?”.
They will click the “sign charter” button and then you will see their name on the charter. Once you get all the signatures required you turn it back into the person you bought it from, and poof new guild.
And yes, newbie areas like Goldshire are good for this, as is capital cities like SW. You should probably put something like “Paying 5g for guild charter signatures” in the Trade (/2) channel if you’re in SW, or in General (/1) if you’re in Goldshire.
Can’t use guild chat unless you actually have a guild. You have to actually announce either in general, or /w to the person you want to ask, if they want to sign your charter. Don’t just shove the charter in their face (i.e. just click on them and invite them to sign without asking them)…actually ask them if they want to first.
Are you on now? Still on Alexstrazsa? Where are you? I’ll get on Jaejae and sign for you, so you have at least one.
