World of Warcraft General Discussion

Douche. (Aside from maybe some VERY speculative possibilites involving fights where only elemental resistance mattered, but that is not VH nor anything else I’ve been involved in.)

I’m voting douche and/or idiot. There are enough plate drops/quest rewards around that he should have been able to find something without even going to the AH, I’d think. Tanks should never be wearing an item from a class lower than their best armor type; DPS and healing can be excused.

I had an insane/douche healer in a group last night. I went in with my lvl 80 priest, who is now Disc vs. Shadow dual-spec. Still getting my rhythm down for Shadow but I make do, plus I add a whole lot of healing/damage mitigation from those powers plus Power Word: Shield. I got sent into a Utgarde Keep instance. The healer was the best geared of us, a shaman with maybe a 4.9K gear score. He was being obnoxious in some of his comments, like calling someone “gay” at one point for asking for a damage report. Then he started saying how he was so bad at this (no), then he was so undergeared and needed some blue pieces. This was obviously wrong if you checked his gear. He even said “omfg!” after winning a roll on a blue caster necklace. When we were about 3 groups away from the final boss, he said he sucked at this and was leaving, and immediately dropped group. I could hear the group sigh at the thought of trying to get a healer so close to the end, so I just said, “I’m going Disc and requeue-ing as a healer”, hit the appropriate Wardrobe macro to swap to my healer gear, and changed specs. Finished without any trouble, but I’m really wondering what was up with that jerk. I’ve seen players try intentionally to grief groups (like the tank dropping group after pulling the first boss in Heroic Nexus) but this was just weirdly done. Maybe he was annoyed that no one was taking his bait and thought he’d tick us off by leaving so close to the end.

The *only *time a tank should be wearing anything but Plate is if they’re (a) a Feral Druid or (b) ridiculously overgeared for the content and trying to put out more threat. And they should *never *be wearing Mail–while you can find Leather with purely physical DPS stats, Mail will always have some kind of caster/Mana-related stat on it.

eBay?

Or possibly if they’re a paladin tank who ridiculously overgears the instance and isn’t taking enough damage to activate their mana-restoration mechanisms (mana restored based on healing received).

Yeah, his profile’s here. This was on Eitrigg, where my main is. This is pretty much exactly what he was wearing, except for the cape, which he won as a drop.

And, as you can see, he’d done the run four times before, so getting killed at the beginning with the mobs you weren’t even supposed to attack? Kind of dumb.

I did this, thanks SFG. The first time I did it, though, it left off the word <slightly>, so I went back into it and changed /2 to /1 thinking THAT was the problem, so then I re-added the word “slightly” and exited. And then, I also created another macro icon (a whistle), so then I had two icons (still do), and then I went to Northshire to try it out, and it didn’t show it because I had changed the /2 to /1. So then I went back into macros and changed the /1 back to /2, and then tested it and it works now!

BTW, I used what you wrote wurbatum except I added “tyvm” at the end.

Thanks!

Wow, that’s the saddest looking DK tank I’ve ever seen.

“Can u take me to ZF? I want to tame a snake.”, was the question I got when I put up the recruit mesg.

So how high a level does one have to be to tame anything?

I asked was he a high enough level and if so, why do I have to take him, then?

Am I having my chain yanked?

Thanks

Q

He was asking you to take him into Zul’Farrak (ZF), a dungeon in Tanaris. There are some pretty neat snakes in there a hunter can tame. The reason he needed you is that while he may be high enough level to tame the snake, it and everything around it are dungeon mobs, which means they’re elite, and he can’t solo it at that level. Also, with the Sandfury Guardian, the only place they are is apparently a courtyard with four of them guarding an entrance, and he would never survive a taming (which takes 20 seconds) without someone keeping the other three occupied.

It looks like he’s stacking… crit? and AP? Not a single item with +defense? Failest. tank. ever. I’d put him on ignore so you don’t accidentally get grouped with him again!

Crap.:smack:

Maybe I don’t need to have a guild, then. I was hoping to get some really entry-level people to sign on. I can handle THAT.

Also, when someone does PST me, how can I find out about them before I answer? (What faction, race, level, etc.)

Y’all say I shouldn’t limit levels. but I feel like I really need to, in order to remember what y’all taught me at those lower levels. But then I’d also like an upper level guy or girl who can handle stuff like that.

I feel like I’m cheating those folks or misleading them or something, and I sure don’t want to do that.

Now, if there’s an item reward (not counting the bags from the fishing/cooking dailies), you only get that the first time. For example, several of the dailies offered on the Skybreaker airship start out as “yellow” quests, and you get some item reward for completing them. Once you’ve completed them the first time, they convert to dailies and all you get is XP and/or gold.

I have been switching to my fire resist aura when we run through there (and then this last time I forgot to switch back to my Retribution aura, and didn’t realize my mistake until after we’d killed Loken :smack: ), so I think the problem has been that, once we were on the stairs, I was trying to help the tank finish off those Slags, not realizing I had only 810 armor. So I probably wa**s getting hit with physical damage and dying before the things exploded. Last time through there, I got away from the Slags and stayed alive.

Yeah, stacking crit is what I guessed after inspecting all his gear.
Running randoms Monday night, I ended up “randomly” grouped with the same female nelf DK tank twice - ToC and, I think, Gundrak or DTK. Anyway, I complimented her on her tanking (she was good), and commented that we’d been grouped together twice. So she asked if I wanted to run some more together, and I said I was game. But then, the problem: one of the people from the random we’d just finished logged out without first leaving the group, and we obviously couldn’t queue with a logged-out party member. And, unfortunately, vote-to-kick doesn’t work once the dungeon is completed. So, since this tank and I are on different servers, we’ll only be able to work together again if the RDF happens to put us together again.

I’m also repeatedly encountering a phenomenon with the RDF that is driving me nuts and prompts me to ask this question: What the hell kind of DPS waits in the queue for 15+ minutes, and then declines the invite when it pops up?. Good grief, I’ve had as many as four in a row that expire because one of the DPS either declined or was AFK and couldn’t accept.

I glad I have a healer (a nelf druid) that I can queue with regularly. Very little waiting when I’m grouped with her. Make that two healers - her boyfriend plays a priest, and they take turns healing and DPSing.

You can shift+left-click on their name in the chat box. It should give you their level, class and race. Faction isn’t a factor…only folks of your own faction can /w you, so they’re always going to be Alliance if they’re whispering Wolkie.

Quasi, you need to relax. Most people aren’t looking for a father-figure as their guild leader. You can encourage guildies to ask questions if they need help, but you can’t really be a guidance counselor to everyone in the guild.

If you’d like, I can move my primary gaming to Alexstrasza and help you out as a co-guild leader or something. We can talk about setting that up tomorrow evening if you want to. Let me know when you’re going to be on and I’ll jump on and help you set up the permissions and stuff. IF you want to. I’m not an experienced GL or anything, but I have a pretty good GENERAL knowledge of the game. I’m not very knowledgeable about the specifics of some classes or gear or higher-end dungeons, but I can help out the low-to-high-middle-level folks if they have questions.

If the random dungeon is one the person can’t stand, they may decline. I know there was a LOT of that going on when Oculus and/or HoR ended up being the random chosen a while ago.

Nah, they’re declining (or are AFK) before you even know what dungeon it is - on the first box that pops up with the BUH-DUH-BUH sound and the Accept and Decline buttons. Or does that little box give the name of the dungeon and I’ve just never noticed it? I’ve never had a clue what dungeon I’m entering until I see the splash screen.

jayjay Of course you know I want to!

In this whole gamer thread, there isn’t one person who would steer me wrong, and I trust each and every one of you.

But I don’t want you to move your gaming to Alex just to help me out. That would not be fair to you, my friend.

I get your point about the not limiting their levels, but the fact remains I can only safely (with the memory shit going on) help until 15 or so, and that’s the reason I tell 'em they can leave when they feel like they have the strategy down.

And yeah, I know I need to chill. It’s just that this is a way to help others as y’all helped me. I can just only do it to a certain level. After that, well, I’d be a liability and not an asshat.

I’ll be on around 7 Eastern time, but I really don’t want you to leave your other server, and I know the rest of the gamers in this thread would agree with me.

Thanks

So if you give me your bank account info I can give you $1,000,000 (ONE MILLION US DOLLARS) because I need the money to get out of [del]Nigeria[/del] Desolace. Held up by the troll government and all that dontcha know.

It doesn’t. But if you’re waiting 30 minutes in queue, and you don’t really want to get into a fight because you don’t want to rezz back in front of a bunch of mobs, and then your friend links you to YouTube and you think that you can watch both windows. . .

. . .I’ve done that a few times. :o

If you select specific instances (for drops maybe) and click it you can see the dungeon. It’s possible they either A. Didn’t want to requeue and tried their luck after they decided they didn’t like one of their choices, B. Forgot to uncheck a dungeon they weren’t interested in, or C. Joined the Queue with someone else who wanted that dungeon and decided against it.

There are other possibilities, spacing out always being possible of course. I’ve declined one or two based on the fact that it popped up right at the beginning of a joust or other annoying daily and I didn’t want to quit the daily, but I didn’t want to keep my group waiting on me either.

I’ve ran Utgarde Keep 3 times now, and haven’t hit Nexus yet with the Random Northrend dungeon option. Horde must have a pretty solid control of Wintergrasp on Blackwater Raiders as I’ve been getting stone keeper shards all three runs.

Utgarde isn’t too bad except for a couple of the trash pulls where they throw those aoe bombs that can really hurt, and the final boss is a bit rough for me right now, in the second stage. I’ve died 2 times out of three before the end of the second stage for Ingvar.

Also, Howling Fjord quests seem to be pretty sparse, I ran out of quests rather quickly, so I must be missing a hub. I’ve hopped over to Borean Tundra and I’ve found plenty of quests there.
