I don’t know how people manage to level non-healers without First Aid. I guess with my warlock I would Drain Life a lot, but my rogue used more bandages than any of my other toons combined, I think (my priest and paladins). In fact my main, a priest, never even learned First Aid past wool bandages.
I bought an authenticator a couple of weeks ago, so I guess I should be safe then. But I remember me telling jayjay a couple of nights ago that I had less than 1k gold, so maybe I spent more than I thought. Guess it’s a good thing I don’t keep the debit card anymore.
Thanks
Q
BTW, I’d like to request that we make sure and do that one on a week when Azraq is available, as there’s an Alchemy quest he needs to get done there. (I went ahead and quested him up to level 68 so I could use the axe and cloak I picked up in the last couple runs).
Looking ahead to lvl 80. Is the idea then to run through all the classic instances from the original game at heroic level, then go through burning crusade, then start in on WotLK finishing with Cataclysm when it comes out? Presumably kitting up along the way?
On my Prot warrior I rarely used bandages because I rarely had the time to use them in combat, and food is as good or better for out of combat healing anyway. I guess there’s the fear shout thing, but that’s not something you really want to use on a regular basis for the usual fear-related reasons. But thinking about the other non-self-healing classes, looks like it’s only warriors that can’t make much use of it (hunters have the ice trap thing, rogues have gouge, mages have poly and maybe ice block (not sure if you can self-bandage from inside that thing), warlocks and DKs self-heal so much they probably should count as healers for soloing purposes anyway.
1.) As has been observed, if you were hacked, everything would be gone.
2.) Are you sure you didn’t just misread your balance? A 1 can look a lot like a 7.
3.) Yes, the Authenticator really does prevent getting hacked. The only way that someone could “hack” an account with an Authenticator attached would be to capture the code as you input it and log in that very second. If you’re logged into the account, no one else can be.
Because you bought gold before, you’re probably on their “mailing lists” now. But that just means they have your name; it doesn’t mean they have access to your account. Just ignore them, and report spam anytime you get a message.
Outland is definitely different–you can fly as soon as you hit 60 these days, for one, which makes a huuuuuuuuge difference in how you quest (or farm materials). They also learned from some of the mistakes of vanilla, so some things aren’t as grindy. You’ll generally see immediate, serious upgrades in equipment as soon as you step through.
On the other hand, the itemization is to a certain extent designed around mechanics that don’t exist anymore. IIRC, your character is a Warrior. Get used to the expression, “Dammit, another fucking piece of Pally trash!” A lot of the Plate that’s available as quest rewards in Outland has caster stats on it. This is because (a) TBC saw an influx of new Paladins as they were made available to the Horde, and (b) at that point, Prot and Ret Paladins also used caster stats like Intellect and Spell Power (now, only Holy Pallies do).
On preview @One And Only Wanderers: There are (currently) no Heroic versions of vanilla dungeons. Heroics were only added in TBC.
Quasi, I highly doubt you were hacked. Hackers don’t usually enter your account and take some gold but not all–and if you were hacked, they would probably have changed the password on your account so you couldn’t get in.
The number missing makes me wonder too–exactly 600 gold? If I had to make a guess, I would say that it’s possible that you misclicked on an auction. There are unscrupulous people out there who will put up auction items for way more than they’re worth, hoping somebody who isn’t paying attention will click on them.
If you want to know for sure, submit a GM ticket. Explain to them that you’re missing 600g and you can’t account for where it went (and include the dates and approximate times–like you know you had the gold yesterday but when you logged in this morning it was gone). They can go back and check the records and hopefully let you know. Unfortunately an auction misclick is probably not recoverable, but at least you’ll know where the money went.
In answer to your question, yes, an authenticator makes you nearly hack-proof. There are a small number of ways that a hacker can get around an authenticator, but they are rare, difficult to to, and if this had happened to you it’s highly unlikely that (a) you’d still be able to get into your account, and (b) if you could, that you would have anything of value left.
As SFG said, there are no heroic versions of classic dungeons (yet, anyway: two will be introduced in Cataclysm). There are heroic version of the BC dungeons, but it’s not necessary to do them. First of all, they were designed for level 70, not level 80, so running regular 80 dungeons will get you better gear for the most part than heroic 70s. I don’t know if anyone runs heroic BC dungeons anymore, unless it for acheivements or if they never upgraded to WotLK.
Lots of options really but I think the intended path would be to do the normal versions of the WotLK dungeons as you level up, so you do them at the appropriate level, then when you hit 80 you can do the heroic versions. All heroic versions are for level 80s only and some have gear requirements before the RDF will allow you to queue for them. Then you can move on to 10 mans and so on.
A lot of people (guilty but this was before the RDF) skip the doing the normal dungeons while levelling and go straight to the heroic versions. This often leads to wipes.
We have a guild bank log why can’t we have a personal ‘bank’ log too? Blizzard have the data.
Yep. That’s one thing that I’m always surprised to find out that people don’t know: Blizzard has ALL the data. WoW is essentially an enormous database that’s always logging transactions. Every purchase you make, everything you say in chat, every boss you kill–is logged in a database file somewhere. I don’t know how long they keep these logs (it boggles the mind to think how much storage space would be required to keep them indefinitely!) but they can definitely retrieve the information within a reasonable time window if it’s requested. Whether they WILL or not is another story–I think they’d be much more likely to go back and check to see whether you accidentally disenchanted or vendored an item than they would to see if you accidentally misclicked an auction, for example, but they definitely CAN do it.
So my new stopping point on my alt-itis is in the 60s. I have 3 characters who I got bored with there. (priest, warlock and warrior)
So I’m going back to my last alt (coincidentally my first class), my druid. I’ve never gotten a druid past 30, but now I have 3 BoA items. However they are cloth BoAs. So I figured I’d go Balance or Resto. Probably Balance because I like to solo as well as dungeon. I know I’m going to do a lot of drinking, but it actually wasn’t so bad after a bit of grinding. Lots of talents to save on mana and regain mana too, so when I get low, just go kitty or bear for a bit while it refreshes. (Some addon I have gives me a mana bar even in bear form so i can watch it)
Even if it’s just for the +20%xp it’s very worth it to try. Anyone else level druid as balance or resto?
Yayz. Little Arhiatlel is no longer quite so little – she’s finally gotten to Northrend! Although I will say, Smiting Kvaldir and Nerubians to death does take a while.
I’m concerned about Wrath-style Holy as opposed to BC healing style, so I figured I’d pick up Test of Faith with my newest talent points and see how that helps, especially since poorly geared DKs are a straight up bitch to keep alive.
I also picked up Inscription on my bank alt to see what all the hullaballoo was about, and for me, playing with herbs and pigments soothes the frustrated artist in my soul.
Even if glyph markets make me cry…
Did you purchase more guild bank tabs? Each tab costs more than the one before: 100g for the first tab, 250g for the second, 500g for the third, and so on.
So … does Gundrak have two entrances or something? After a ridiculous wipe on trash I ran back to the entrance, rezzed, ate my fish and rebuffed myself, then jumped down into the water where those ramps go down, just like always (I’ve probably done Gundrak more than any other instance) … only to find myself alone and faced with a pair of elite mobs. Checking the map, the rest of the party was clear over on the other side of the instance. I should mention the tank was a well-geared idiot. When I first zoned into the instance, he announced, “This is gonna be a quick and dirty run. Don’t DPS until I have everything! Okay, here I go, nobody move!” Except I don’t think any of us realized that by “everything”, he meant that he was going to pull entire rooms. We got through the first “round” room with the serpents and all the little snakes all over the floor, and into the big wide-open room with what looks like huge piles of bones and more of those serpents.
It was in that big area that he pulled the first group, ran for the second group, and at that point I completely lost track of where he was because mobs were running everywhere. He must have been trying to gather the mobs by taunting them as he ran past (he was a warrior) rather than actually attacking them, and apparently failed to notice that all the mobs weren’t staying on him. A bunch of them peeled off him and headed for the healer, so the DK and I started desperately trying to get their attention off the healer. Next thing you know, the tank has run clear out of range or line-of-sight of the healer, still gathering up more mobs. I went down. The DK went down. The tank went down. And finally the healer and the last DPS went down.
At this point, in full “blame everybody else” style, the tank said, “Am I too ambishish (sic) for this group?” The healer quit in disgust. And that brings me back to coming back in through the instance entrance and finding myself on the opposite side of the place from everybody else. We had queued for a new healer and got one immediately, at which point the tank explained his earlier “strategy” again (the one that worked so well the first time, and which he is clearly going to try again) and took off. In chat the new healer said, “Pally on the wrong side.” Yep, the tank didn’t bother to make sure everybody was there before he charged in again. So I asked in chat, “Are there two entrances or something? There are elites here that I can’t get past. Did I originally zone into an in-progress run?” Nobody answered. I waited, and waited, then said, “Hello?” and still got no answer. So I said to myself, “Screw this” and quit.
So then I was stuck with the “dungeon cooldown” buff (did they change the name of the “deserter” debuff?) and couldn’t queue for another one. Also there was no debuff icon on my screen, so I couldn’t even tell how long I had to wait. So I just logged out and played my mage for a while, and then came back to my pally later.
Next up was Utgarde Pinnacle, and a DK tank. We made it through, despite the tank not being able to hold aggro worth a damn - I swear he kept losing aggro to his ghoul (his single ghoul pet, not his Army of the Dead). I severely outgeared this tank, so I was being very careful to give him plenty of time to generate threat before I charged in, but then I still had to deal with his constant dancing around in circles making it extremely difficult for me to get behind the mobs. I have to give the healer credit for our making it through that one.
And then … Heroic Halls of Reflection. I apparently came in as a replacement for a DPS who left after a wipe, judging by the bones all over the floor. After I joined, the healer they already had admitted that he was inadequate to the task of healing H:HoR and said we should get somebody else. So we got a new healer, a paladin who, on seeing where she was, proceeded to cuss. “F*** my life! It never fails! If I queue on this undergeared pally I always get HoR! If I queue on my uber-geared druid I get HoS or HoL!” Undergeared or not, though, she turned out to be up to the task, because we survived through killing Faldric before finally wiping on the first wave of trash before Marwyn. So we all ran back (which was fine now that I know how to find the damned entrance
), and successfully cleared the rest of the instance. Finally! Unfortunately, the chest at the end had nothing I needed
But it was gratifying to finally complete that one.
Yep, it has two. One on either side of the courtyard. The first one gets you to the beginning of the instance (near the snake boss) and the other one gets you near the end (near the mammoth boss).
The second entrance is quite helpful if you’re trying to do the “Less-Rabi” achievement–less area to cover while running back from the inevitable wipes. ![]()
When I discovered my pally needed a particular Cooking recipe (for the Outland Gourmet acheivement) that comes from a quest, and that I had vendored the recipe because I hadn’t learned the Cooking profession at the time I did the quest, I put in a ticket to see if I could have it restored. I assume they were able to verify that I had indeed vendored it and not auctioned it, despite several months going by, and I got the recipe in my mailbox the next day.
(I didn’t train Cooking until lvl 80 on my pally; remember she was my first toon, and I didn’t realize how important Cooking was until she was lvl 80.)
Cool. So apparently I did zone into an in-progress run. We did kill one boss, and I remember thinking it was awfully early in the run for the first boss. OTOH, I would assume that the original starting group started at the very beginning, so I find it odd that there were elites blocking my way - I thought elites in instances didn’t respawn.
ETA: What was weird, though, was the jumping down into the water in the middle of the spiral ramp thing right inside the entrance. I did that when I first zoned in, and again after I ran back. So both entrances have that? I know I’ve never encountered that twice in a run.
Yep, both sides have the “jump down and hope you don’t jump wrong and splat at the bottom to the amusement of your groupmates” entrance. ![]()
Honestly, I don’t think they checked if you vendored it, a lot of people make that mistake so requests to restore recipes are probably pretty common. Most likely they just check to see if you done the relevant quest or not and give you the benefit of the doubt when you tell them you destroyed/vendored the recipe.
I can think of some where they might (like the “Kickin’ Chimaerok Chops” recipe, AFAIK the only Epic-level recipe in the game, obtainable as part of a very long and arduous quest chain (it’s part of the chain to get the AQ scepter and open the AQ gates)…and the book is BoE, which means you can sell it). I think Blizz would want to know in that case whether you AH’ed it or vendored/destroyed it, since it sells for well over 1,000 gold.
