Guilds are fantastic - I log on last night and check my mail and one of the members, who I have never met in game or even chatted to apart from general banter in the guild channel, has sent me a chest piece and belt he has crafted much better than what I have.
I picked up a couple of schematics last night for things I can’t use, what do people usually do with those? I checked the AH and there weren’t any for sale, would it be good form to ask if any Guild members would want them or just try selling them? Here is one of them looks quite good Schematic: Mithril Heavy-bore Rifle
Another patch Blizzard?? Who is doing your system testing, macro bots? Actually that might not be a bad idea…
Yes, ask in /g if any engineers could use those schematics, especially as you’ve been gifted with gear by your guild. If no one’s interested, you can put them up on the AH…I have no idea what your realm economy is like, so I can’t tell you how much to set the auction bid and buyout at. You might want to hold onto them (assuming your guild doesn’t want them) until you see a few auctions for them and decide then.
Yeah, that’s one of my real gripes with the questing system–when you’ve just gone and done something and come back, and now they want you all the way out there again. *Particularly *annoying when you’re on a character (<70 or <77 in Northrend) or in a location (old world) where you can’t use an epic flyer.
1.) If you have a guild bank, you can deposit them there if there’s no one online at the time who wants them.
2.) If you plan to auction them, check the suggested buyout prices listed on Wowhead and Thottbot (note: these are compiled based on stats from many different servers and across both factions, so they can often be too low or too high–but some possibly inaccurate info is better than nothing, right?).
3.) You might want to consider running an addon like Auctioneer. You can use it to scan the entire AH, which data it will then compile to give you an idea of what a given item has sold for in the past. You get out of it what you put into it, though–it will take at least a couple days of scanning to start being useful, and if you don’t scan frequently, your data can end up out of date. For me, it’s indespensible.
I think Quasi meant QuestHelper, which he downloaded using the Curse Client.
Or it could be… Ach, what’s the other popular add-on that people use for quest tracking that isn’t QH? Carbonite, right?
In the case of Dun Algor the distance wasn’t an issue - the two dwarves giving me the quests were practically right outside the place. It’s that the mobs in there respawn quickly enough that by the time I come out, hand in the previous quest, and acquire the next quest, they’ve all respawned and I now have to fight my way through all of them again. And I have to fight through them both going in and coming out. However, it is a mostly outdoor area with a lot of small buildings to go in and out of, so I agree that if I was able to use my flyer already it would be a lot less annoying.
For long-distance, back-and-forth quests, though, it’s hard to beat Duskwood. All the questgivers are in Darkshire at the eastern end of the zone, and nearly all the quests send you back and forth to Raven Hill at the western end of the zone. That really sucked until I realized that the Sentinel Hill flight point in Westfall was closer to Raven Hill than Darkshire was and I could do each quest, run over to SH and fly back to Darkshire. (Actually, I think the Stormwind FP is closer to Raven Hill than Darkshire is …)
My new lowbie nelf druid joined a guild last night. Brand new guild, apparently, as I’m only the 13th member and was promoted to officer status immediately. But I really really really wish I’d looked at the guild name before accepting the invitation: “Pegasus Messangers”. Sigh. I wonder if Blizzard would be willing to implement a spellchecker at the guild registry …
Also, let me add that I still really hate that Ban’ethil Barrow Den place, even though I’ve now been through it five times or so. This time I didn’t even bother taking the quest from the ghosty druid guy in there. I just gathered up the four Relics of Awakening and hearthed out because I can never find my way back out of there.
I’ve also recently gotten into the habit, when it’s obvious that another player is doing the same quest I am, of inviting them to a group so that we can both grab the quest item from the mob we need to kill. So last night my druid was in that cave behind Dolanaar going after that satyr with the army of grellkins. I was partway through the cave when a nelf rogue went running past me while I was in combat with a grellkin and engaged the next one down the line. Figuring he was on the same quest I extended a group invitation, but he declined it. So we finally got to the area outside where the satyr hangs out, and the rogue was ahead of me (having taken advantage of my efforts to clear out the opposition, I felt). He used a throwing knife to pull the satyr’s “bodyguard”, started fighting the bodyguard, and then here came the boss satyr. So I quickly figured, “Well, I was technically here first and I did offer to group with the guy. Oh well, he had his chance.” Tagged the satyr with Moonfire, killed him, grabbed his head, and I was on my way
YES. THIS. TIMES FIFTY.
Something to think about: are you sure you want to be part of a guild that makes unknown people officers?
Yup, offering to group when someone’s probably on the same quest that involves a named mob is very good form. I try to whisper the person first before I sent the invite, though, ‘cause I dislike random party invitations myself, and people might not always make the immediate “we’re on the same quest” connection. But good on you for taggin’ the mob–you cleared the trash, you get the quest mob first.
I always do this too and it annoys me to no end when someone refuses to group when it’s obvious we’re both after the same goal.
One time I was questing in the Wetlands and I was on the final dinosaur killing quest in the archeology dig. I was working my way up the slope to the final, unique dinosaur when a night elf rogue ran past me. I offered to group with him, which he declined. He then charged forward and engaged the final dinosaur AND another one that he hadn’t noticed. So I just sat down and watched him die a gruesome death. Then, when the mobs were back in position, I killed them one at a time and finished the quest. By that point the elf had respawned and demanded to know why I hadn’t helped him when he got in trouble!
For #2, I wonder if you’ve seen wowecon.com? It publishes data on the web that you can filter by server AND faction. Very nice, but as always, the data is collected only on an opt-in basis (ie, the folks who download and install the add-on, I’m thinking), so YMMV. I usually cross-compare pricing with that, Wowhead, Thottbott, and the AH itself.
Auctioneer is nice, but it’s got a noticeable footprint, so I’ve heard people recommend sticking it only on a bank alt, or trying out one of the alternatives. I use AuctionLite myself, which is still larger than most of my other add-ons, but it’s more lightweight – I still don’t grok histograms so they aren’t much use for me, for example.
Quasi, glad you could find Jack! (And Mister Rik, thanks for the clarification regarding QuestHelper - I figured it might be something like that)
Side note: Anyone seen their graphical glitches go up more with the recent patches? I was Very Amused that I was running BRD with naked cows and undead, and took many screencaps for black^H^H^Hevidence.
(nVidia GTX 260, for the record)
The only one I’d seen was thankfully fixed in the 3.1.2 patch. Apparently it was a Mac-only glitch. Any time I was “indoors”, like in a cave, tunnel, or in a capitol city, the minimap was “smearing”, meaning different edges were stretching in straight lines. It was making it virtually impossible to use the minimap to navigate in caves. I wouldn’t have even attempted an instance before it was fixed (not that I really do instances anyway, but you know what I mean).
I recently switched to Linux. As it turns out, a Radeon HD card + Linux + WoW = can’t render minimaps while “indoors”. It’s just a white circle. It’ll show dots fine, so I can still track stuff inside, but I can’t use the map. It’s made for some tricky going in unfamiliar caves.
As far as I know this is a problem with the video card and Linux, not necessarily WoW, so it may be a while before it gets fixed.
Finally got around to testing Thrym–handily two-manned by my pocket healer and me. So, whoever it was that asked about it, yes, he’s not just killable, he’s an easy kill.
The random naked bug has been around for a while. It still makes me giggle, though.
Any/everyone else dealing with the “flags you PvP when you zone into an instance” bug? We finished off Naxx last night and the bug became a real pain when we had to recover from a single wipe (I hate Gluth). This shadow priest - who brags about how many lvl 80s he has and how he used to be in an uber-guild - says “um, I don’t have Cold Weather Flying”. :smack: After a couple of our guys getting near-ganked by flagged Alliance waiting around the lobby, we flew two people from Venomspite to Wyrmrest on the standard flyers to unflag them.
I was in a group last night with someone who had the opposite bug: her PvP flag wouldn’t go off, it did go off by itself while we were in an instance, came back on as soon as we left. At least our realm is RP-PvE but still; plus, most people see someone with a PvP flag in the middle of nowhere and think that someone keeps his brain in the underwear file.
Some Forte add-on help required please - I have unzipped it into the correct folder like I would any other add-on (recent updates of titan panel and cartographer are working fine for example) but I can’t see anything when I log in. I have every Forte module enabled apart from the non Warlock class specific modules is there anything else I have to do?
Thanks for the auction advice too, I will download auctioneer for my bank alt. This may be a very dumb question - do all the Auction houses show the same items? Last night I went from Undercity to Origmarr (sp?) to train staves and I am pretty sure the AH items in both cities were the same.
Oh and another thing (sorry for all the questions!) I play on a 17" laptop so screen real estate is at a premium, any suggested mods or anything that will free up some space but keep all the buttons for me and my minion (I use two rows for me plus the pet bar)? One example I keep clicking on the chat window in fights by mistake.
The AHs in your faction’s capitals are all linked so it doesn’t matter which one you go to.
Bartender will let you do just about anything you want(and probably some stuff you don’t know you want yet :)) to your action bars.
