World of Warcraft questions

Yes I am on a PvE server and this explains it thank you. Damned annoying yes though I have to admit I enjoyed it when the Shaman turned up and finished him.

I like the sound of that guild, the members are almost like superheroes to us low level chars.

We’re not shorties, we’re properly heighted.

Draenei, to gnome rogue: How’s the weather down there? Har-har-har!

Gnome rogue, to draenei: I can make those kneecaps point the right way, you know. Keep it up…

The dwarves get their revenge on the Big Folk when we’re trying to navigate Ironforge. Sure, the place looks massive, but every time I go up and down the stairs in a shop, I bang my head on the light fixture. I’m sure they break down laughing as soon as I leave.

There are places in Karazhan and Utgarde Keep where a gnome mage is at a disadvantage due to LOS issues caused by bumps in the floor, or the edge of a ramp, that don’t seem to bother the tall types.

Then again, there are tree branches we can run under that the Draenei clothesline themselves on, so it’s all good.

I saw a similar thing happen at The Crossroads a couple days ago. Alliance players killing NPCs until a lvl 80 tauren druid and a lvl 58 death knight showed up and stomped 'em.

I typically play Alliance, and none of the few Horde characters I have have even really encountered Alliance players, so whenever I see someone being an ass to the other side it’s usually a Hordie. Makes it tough to remember that Alliance players do the same crap too.

I have to admit it’s really funny watching Hordies wreak death and destruction all around me and knowing that I’m untouchable. “Huh. Killed the militia captain. …Ooh, cheese! nom

The Crossroads is basically always under attack. Kind of annoying, but at least it’s pretty close to Org so there are always bored level 80 Hordies to come deal with any problems, eventually.

Anyone else have a WoW wishlist? Not of gear that you wish you had, but of things that you feel SHOULD be in the game that aren’t?

My wishlist would include the ability to have multiple hearthstones, perhaps make them reputation-based (while leaving your basic hearthstone the way it works now, changeable by just “checking in” to an inn). For instance, you could earn a Crossroads hearthstone by getting to “Honorable” rep with Crossroads (this would necessitate doing like the blood elf lands have, separate rep for Silvermoon City and Tranquilien (although I have to admit, Tranquilien rep is about the easiest in the game to earn…in no other faction, not even your main, can you earn Exalted rep by the time you’re lvl 20)…Faction, therefore, for Orgrimmar and Crossroads would be two separate tallies instead of all going to Orgrimmar or Horde). You could have this in addition to your default hearthstone. The only problem with this is that it would somewhat devalue portal spells, making the mages go all QQ.

This thought came about as I was flying between Shadowmoon Village and Thrallmar on that enormous circular route because of a misclick at the Shattrath flight master (I meant to click Thrallmar and instead clicked Shadowmoon Village). I’m an impatient man…sometimes even my every-15-minute Astral Recall isn’t enough hearthpower for me.

Pretty much. Maybe he is hoping some Alliance nub would attack him.

When you play Horde, you will see high level Alliance attacking the Crossroads (major questing hub in the Barrens). Some players like to grief others by killing quest givers.

Se my post #7, this thread.

First, hie thee to Stormwind and visit your friendly neighborhood banker. You’ll get much more storage space.

Second, as you increase in level and find yourself farther and farther from banks and auction houses, it makes sense to create a bank toon. Just start a new character and run him straight to the appropriate capital city. Send him a bunch of bags. Then, your main character just has to look for a mailbox and mail stuff to the bank toon, who can sell it, store it, auction it, or whatever.

Speaking of auctioning, you’ll want to check going prices on pretty much anything that isn’t gray level.

If you press “escape” to bring up the main game menu, and go into “key bindings,” you’ll find commands to save “views.” I picked a typical view (looking from behind at medium distance) and assigned it to my comma key. Any time the camera’s messed up, I just press the comma.

Then I turned the camera around so I was looking at my character from the front, saved the view, and assigned it to the period key. Now, if I have to run away from something, I can press the period and look behind me to see if I’m being chased and by how many bad guys. Then I press comma and I’m looking ahead again. Very handy.

I took my Night Elf Priest over to the human/dwarf zones at about level 12. When I did the Stalvan quest chain (which starts in Darkshire and runs you all over the place), I got to the last quest and killed Stalvan in his house. The chest with the cool loot was in his fireplace, and my elf was too tall to go in and get it. I opened a ticket and the GM said it spawned at random locations in the house, and I’d just have to kill him again (I think they’ve fixed this since). sigh

Is it just me, or does the armor for female characters get skimpier as it gets better? Now that my female human paladin is approaching lvl 30 and my female night elf druid is over 20, it seems like the armor they find covers less and less skin while providing higher armor values. My pally’s new chest armor is basically a halter top.

Not that I’m complaining, mind you.

My pally is actually getting pretty colorful. She has the red linen shirt from the lady at the Eastvale logging camp, gold chest armor, blue mail pants, and green boots.

This is one of my only major problems with the visual look of the game. The disparity between male and female armor is ridiculous and sexist. It’s especially bad for RP players (and this is also a problem with certain races’ female “idle” animations, such as that horrible night elf “bouncyanimegirl” thing)…how are you supposed to be a powerful and respected defender of your land and culture if you look like you’re posing for an issue of Playknight (or, in the case of the animations, look like you’ve got all the maturity and brains of a massively overdeveloped schoolgirl)?

Heh. I cannot find it now, but that is an old, but still humorous, observation about WoW that has been lampooned in third party comic websites. (As well as the “idle” animations of the female night elf, and female human.)

I dunno. But dancing nekkid on the mailbox in front of the bank sure don’t help, either.

I mean, it wouldn’t bother me so much if it were possible to customize it so that you could actually go in and “turn off” certain animations and armor visuals for your character, but other people could keep them all on or even turn off the mature, sober ones and just play a completely exhibitionist airhead or something. But if I’m trying to RP some sort of noble oration or something and suddenly in the middle of it I start bouncing and clapping my hands, it kind of takes away from the atmosphere a little, ya know?

My girlfriend’s character never really had trouble with this until she got Black Mageweave Leggings the other night. She spent a while cursing them out for making her look like a Draenei hooker. I couldn’t find it in me to support her, I was too busy looking. :o Blue skin, black lingerie…yeah, it’s totally and blatantly sexist, but damn does it look good.

I wish the skinning talent wasn’t just for animals. Imagine skinning a human and trying to go all Silence of the Lambs.

I also wish mounts weren’t race based. It was a pain to go all the way back to Silvermoon City to get my mount as a Blood Elf who was leveling in Desolace.

My other wish is that there was something a character can do on long flights between locations. I know chat and opening bags is allowed but how about milling plants or making bandages? For really long flights, I usually either leave the room or go to window mode and do other stuff on my computer.

I totally agree. This is part of the reason why I don’t play female characters (I have many other reasons, but this is part of it). That night elf female animation just annoys the hell out of me, for the reasons you stated. Even high-level respectable night elves do it–I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Tyrande Whisperwind (the leader of Darnassus, ffs!) bouncing and clapping.

While we’re on the subject of animations and such–another thing that annoys me is some of the jokes. All of my characters are male blood elves. My main is a raiding mage, and his personality is very arrogant and imperious but also unswervingly polite (even if he can cut you down with a sarcastic insult, it will be delivered in the most cordial of tones). Some of the jokes (like the one about the patch) are cute and might even be slightly appropriate for him. But then they had to go and give this proud, haughty, magic-addicted race the following joke:

“The trouble with these Horde characters is they lack sophistication (realistic fart sound).”

I know I probably take things too seriously, but I’m an RPer at heart and my mage would be mortified if he ever told that joke. So, since the jokes are randomly generated from a group of 5 or 6 for each race/gender combo, he doesn’t ever joke. The two times I tried as an experiment (while I was alone) I got the fart joke both times. I wish there was a way to turn off some of the jokes.
