World of Warcraft questions

Well, they didn’t buy my "I am but a simple fisherman"stunt; I had a fishing pole, and lvl 20ish plain cloth pants and shirt on. Turns out they still don’t like undead warlocks, even ones who are banking their gear to save on repair bills and dressing up like a fisherman.

It is at GU comics, I have it printed out and used to keep it on the wall of my cubicle but now I telecommute. Let me check GU and see if I can link to it

Do zombie anglers catch skeletal fish?

The emphasis on end-game stuff kind of annoys me, but I tend to enjoy the journey more than the destination, anyway. Once you start the end-game dungeons, it seems like the whole thing becomes a major chore…coordinating raids, spending HOURS per week on the same fights, min/maxing your gear to the last bonus point…it really sounds like a drag.

CoH/X was my first MMORPG. I still have an account and after I burn out on WoW I’ll go back to it for awhile and then come back to WoW. I tend to get more involved in WoW though, since CoX can be repetitive. (so can WoW, but CoX is more so IMO).

I’ve hardly ever done any endgame stuff in CoX. I burnt out trying to level my main villain to 50. I got to 45 before it just got too much like a grind. Maybe in a few months I’ll give it another shot.

I was logged onto WoW for only about 40 minutes last night. I just wanted to finish the mission of killing the furlgog messengers on the road to Winterspring but just when I was about to finish them off some lvl “??” guy attacked me. I was tired and I didn’t have the energy to rez and try again. Maybe tonight, or maybe I’ll work on one of my lower level guys.

I still have not tried Warhammer though I have the disk. I wonder how it is holding up? i’d like to see how **Age of Conan **is bearing up? It was rife with problems in September when I last gave it a shot, and I’ve heard it was losing subscribers. Anyone know if theres anyplace I can look up that kind of info?

One good thing about maintenance day…as opposed to when I was overseas it will be over by the time I get home from work!

One of the things to remember with Lunar Festival is that it happens several times a year - so you can save your Ancestry coins and still get the good stuff. That’s how my level 6 banker ends up with the uberest gear :stuck_out_tongue:

I refuse to rush through the levelling, even though my guildies give me a lot of crap. I’ve had WotLK since it was out - and my main character is just barely 75. Because they all rushed through and are now running around doing silly things like achievements out of boredom, doesn’t mean I have to rush and not enjoy what I paid good money for!!

Pet peeve: Last night my internet connection hiccuped and kicked me off the game - but I logged right back in. Only, it was 8:23 PM and now my realm was “locked” and it wouldn’t let me back in. grrrrrrr

To the best of my knowledge, this is not correct. Lunar Festival corresponds to Chinese New Year, so the actual DATE may change from year to year, but it only happens once every approximate year. So it may happen in February one year and in January the next, but it’s still not “several times a year”.

[slight hijack]Well, I answered my AoC question here. Looks like its tanking. I wonder how long it will last.

They play in the inn at Lower City (Shattrath) regularly too, and outside Shattrath when the Fair is in town.

For the weather transitions, I’ve had those rain-sun-rain-sun… ones often both in Spain and here in Scotland. It’s much rarer in the US because, well, everything is bigger in the US, even clouds. When I was studying in Barcelona, there were times I’d call Grandma to see when did she want me to visit and she’d complain about “three days of 16C max and nothing but rain, rain, rain!” for me, three miles away as the crow flies and in the same town, the last days had been 20C min and absolutely sunny (my dorm was high in the hills that surround the city, her house is midcity near the Sagrada Familia).

I’ll admit I keep thinking that guy was like “WTF!? Why is that high level orc even in HERE!?”.

Right now I need to go back to work. I was going to log in to see how my acuction stuff was doing, buut the servers are down.

I also wanted to find out what the coins from the elders are good for. I have five or six of em but I don’t know what to do with them.

It’s maintenance day (always a Tuesday). The servers are usually down until mid-afternoon Eastern Time (if we’re lucky).

There are two vendors in Moonglade (only there for the Lunar Festival) who sell things in exchange for the ancestral coins. Did you talk to a Lunar Festival rep in one of the capital cities? They give you an easy quest (buy and launch 8 red rockets and 2 red cluster rockets), after which you get an invitation to the Lunar Festival. If you use that invitation scroll while you’re standing in a moonbeam, you are teleported to Moonglade. The vendors are on a platform in Nighthaven, the town in Moonglade.

Moonglad only has one hostile creature (that I know of) and that exists only during Lunar Festival, but it’s a doozie.

The Horde flightpoint in Moonglade is tucked up against the northern border, beside the road that leads to the furbolg tunnels. The Alliance flightpoint is south of the little lagoon on the south shore of the big lake. There is a joint Alliance/Horde flightpoint in Nighthaven, but that’s only usable by Druids.

That’d be the Southwest, Bob. The village is in the north.

Q: Why is a mage like an Irishman?
A: Fight, drink, fight, drink, fight, drink…

That’s awful and awesome.

Heh. I’ve been that guy.

While we’re trading machinimas, let me direct the viewer to the fine work of Nyhm. Sorry if his work has been posted in the thread previously. My personal favorite (besides Assassinate of course) is Hard Like Heroic, but it is possibly NSFW depending on how lame your employer is.

:smack:

Oh, jeebus! Do you have ANY idea how bad I am for that? For some reason my head gets completely turned around on directions in every freakin’ zone when I start to talk about it. I’m fine with where things are inside the zone in relation to each other, but north, south, east, west…completely gone.

What hurts is that I got the directions on Alliance flightpoint perfectly correct…

Machinima goodness: This brilliant amateur combines Portal with WoW in the video The Device Has Been Modified

Nah, that’s not it, but thanks.

The comic I am thinking of, as I remember it, was multipanel.

NE and Human females pictured. The human female does the “heaving sigh” idle animation, which incidently shows off her… softer points.

The NE female berates her, or sumthin, for doing sumthin so sexist. The human female tries to claim that she can’t help it, yada yada.

Pause panel in between.

Then the NE female does her little “bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet” animation, which is vaquely soft-porn.

Human female screams “ah-HAH!”

I had a funny conversation the other day with my Alliance guildmates over on Lightbringer. Just out of curiosity, I asked if I was the oldest player in the guild, and gave my age: 42. Immediately, one of my guildmates (who I’d run a couple quests with the day before) said, “Wow, that’s older than my mom!” Some further discussion revealed that I’m not the oldest — it turns out one of the guys is 69. So then it was my turn to say, “Wow, that’s older than my mom!” He said he has grandchildren who play as well.

Then one of the kids let it be known that his 77-year-old grandfather plays, and in fact has three level 70 characters :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of level 70, are my characters capped at 70 since I have BC installed but not WotLK? Or is the new level 80 cap universal?

I had some trouble installing BC. I put the DVD in and launched the installer, and the screen that came up just had the big button that said, “Play Burning Crusade”, rather than “Install Burning Crusade”. I spent 11 minutes on hold with Blizzard technical support before I got tired of waiting and went to their tech support site. I should have done that first, because I quickly found a page that told me that all of the BC files were installed via the 3.0 update (that explains the 8-hour update download I had to leave going overnight before I could even play basic WoW) and all I needed to do was update my account to activate the content. :smack:

My female blood elf’s jokes and flirts really cracked me up. “I’m the girl the ESRB warned you about!” :stuck_out_tongue: And the bit about getting her hair done by an undead hairdresser and how she couldn’t understand a thing the undead woman said. “She sounded like a murloc!” And the bit about coming out of a troll hair salon with dreadlocks and a bone in her nose …

Regarding her dance being based on that Korean girl’s “Toxic” routine … it also appears that her 3-point landing when she jumps down from someplace is modeled after a 3-point landing Britney does in the music video.

At 59, that makes me feel a lot better!

Thanks Mister Rik
