Nope. There’s an achievement called The Fishing Diplomat, which requires fishing in Org and Stormwind.
Huzzah! My paladin attained Exalted status with Stormwind last night! So … what comes after Exalted? My SW rep meter is now pegged at 999/1000 for the next level, so I assume I have to perform some specific deed/quest to get the next title.
Moment of excitement: At lvl 43 she was in the Swamp of Sorrows on her way to collect Atal’ai artifacts for the draenei dudes over at the Harborage. That meant getting past some big green dragonkin. She engaged a lvl 44 dragonkin and took it down, and then was immediately attacked by a lvl 42 and beat it down. But … while she was fighting the lvl 42, yet another dragonkin jumped her from behind. So she finished off the lvl 42 and turned to face the next one, and discovered it was a lvl 45 Elite  But she stood her ground and fought valiantly, and actually got the Elite down to just just a sliver of health before she finally ran out of mana and HP herself. I was totally surprised she came so close to beating an Elite that was 2 levels higher than her, especially considering that, when she was lvl 26 she still had a really hard time getting past that lvl 19 Elite ogre in Deadmines. So after rezzing I thought I’d give it another shot, this time starting with full health and mana bars, but of course now that lvl 45 Elite was nowhere to be found. My vengeance will have to wait.
Then a few minutes later I was attacked by one of those wandering Stonard Explorer orcs and was forced to defend myself, which of course flagged me PvP. And naturally, a lvl 48 tauren hunter happened by immediately afterward and killed me
Now, on to the whiny bits:
My pally’s quest log was full, so my goal yesterday was to clear out as many of those dangling quest chains as I could. These included three quests into Deadmines (the dwarf quests for the Explorer’s League, plus one for Shoni the Shilent) and four into Gnomeregan (one for Shoni, one for a gnome in Kharanos, and two for gnomes in TinkerTown). Now, the two dwarf Deadmines quests I had actually declined when they were first offered because I wasn’t ready to go into Deadmines at that time. But I was in the SW Dwarven Quarter handing in a couple other quests and decided to go ahead and accept those quests since by this time I’d already beaten Deadmines and figured I could handle them with no trouble.
My whine: I wish, oh how I wish, that these quests would indicate right up front which ones require entering the instances and which ones don’t. Currently, they all say (Dungeon) after them in the quest log. I had been putting off, and putting off, and putting off the Gnomeregan quests and as I already mentioned I’d initially declined the dwarf Deadmines quests. So when I finally decided to attempt them, I discovered that both of the dwarf Deadmines quests could be completed without entering the instance, and a full three of the four Gnomeregan quests did not require entering the instance! (Note: until yesterday the only characters I’d taken near the entrance to Gnomeregan were a dwarf rogue and a gnome mage, both <10th level, neither of whom could get past the lvl 24-25 leper gnomes at the entrance, so I had no idea that there was so much of Gnomeregan to explore before getting to the actual instance entrance.) Had I known this, I could have done these quests when I was still at a low enough level that I would have actually gotten some XP from the mobs and the item drops might have actually been useful for something other than disenchanting.
Now for a completely boneheaded brain fart on my part: I was so focused on simply clearing those old quests and getting out of there (and it was after 1:00 AM and I really needed to get to bed) that I completely spaced off the fact that there would be a Boss to kill in Gnomeregan. So I made it all the way through Gnomeregan and have no achievement to show for my trouble :smack: I collected all the punchcards on my way down, and I simply could not find the machine to stick the last one into, so my tired brain just assumed the punchcards and machines were some silly diversion. Oh well, I still have the Prismatic Punchcard, so when I have time I guess I’ll attempt another “quick” run to the bottom to find the appropriate machine to stick it into and fight the boss.
Moment of LOL: In Arathi Highlands I had the quest to kill the giant, Fozruk. I finally located him, and then spent some time formulating a careful plan of attack because he was lvl 42 (as was I at the time) and he had a trio of lvl 38, 39, and 40 kobolds tagging along with him. When I was ready I charged in and attacked the weakest of the kobolds first. He shouted, “Stand firm, brothers! We have size on our side!” At which point Fozruk proceeded to stomp the kobolds into paste while attacking me
I was left with the impression that, while these kobolds thought Fozruk was their friend/protector, Fozruk himself wasn’t even aware of the tagalong kobolds’ presence - i.e. these small creatures around his feet were beneath his notice.
Speaking of that particular quest chain — the one with the ultimate goal of freeing Mythaestra (sp?) — I’m beginning to suspect this is another “dupe” quest. Meaning my character’s good nature is being manipulated in order to make her unwittingly release some horror. I say “another” because I’m thinking of the quest chain in Duskwood where I had to deliver a number of items to the poor old man living all by himself behind the Raven Hill cemetery, only to discover he was using those items to unleash Stitches on Darkshire. This current chain is starting to feel the same way. First the giant at the Circle of Binding near Stromgarde shouts, “Foolish mortal! We cannot allow you to release Mythaestra!”, and then Mythaestra herself sends me to Ironforge to speak with an extremely shady character to learn how to summon her.
That’s it! You’re done.

Be sure to take a friend or two with you for the last part of that quest chain, that’s all I’m gonna say.
Don’t “Diplomat” and “Ambassador” follow after “Exalted”?
No. Ambassador, and possibly Diplomat, are special titles you get for achieving Exalted with certain factions. The rep bar goes Hated, Hostile, Unfriendly, Neutral, Friendly, Honored, Revered, Exalted.
Edit: Yes, both are titles. Ambassador and The Diplomat.
Just wait, there’s worse out there. You may curse the name of Somnus by the time you’re done in that zone. (He is just waaaay too quiet for his size. I can’t think of how many times I’d be killing dragonkin and suddenly, face comes in from side of screen, chomp, dead. Grr.)
Not quite. Diplomat requires getting Exalted with some other factions (the Timbermaw, the Sporeggar, and the Kurenai), and Ambassador is getting Exalted with all five of your racial factions (Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus, the Gnomeregan Exiles, and the Exodar)
edit: fixed the gnome faction name, added Exodar
:smack:
No, those are achievments:
Diplomat = Raise your reputation level from unfriendly to exalted with Timbermaw Hold, Sporeggar and the Kurenai.
Ambassador = Earn exalted status with all 5 home cities: Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus, Gnomeregan Exiles, and Exodar. (Gnomes live in Ironforge.)
Thanks. I’m a little puzzled because my tauren hunter, who is 1 or 2 levels higher than my human pally, has still not achieved “Exalted” status with Thunder Bluff. I think that might be because tauren start out doing quests for TB and then inexplicably get shuffled off into doing bunches of quests for Orgrimmar. I get the impression that humans and orcs, the classic “classic” races if you go all the way back to WarCraft I, are still the central questing focus.
My tauren hunter has spotted Somnus once, fairly close but not close enough to draw its attention. Somnus was just sort of lazily flying past, low to the ground. My pally may have seen him (or is Somnus a her?) flying over the treetops, but it was just a brief glimpse and might have been in a different zone entirely, I can’t recall. I think both characters are pretty much done in there, though neither has received a quest to actually go down inside the ruined temple. Yet.
The Sunken Temple is for around level 50: Temple of Atal'Hakkar | WoWWiki | Fandom
That is where i was going to send him to fish … Ill warn him to dismiss=)
He is somewhere above 60 … not sure of his actual level right now=)
RE: Tauren Reputation
Your right, there is an imbalance in quests/rep.
Solution: Runecloth. Lots and lots of Runecloth.
Oh, by the way, the Lunar Festival Elders (that pass out coins) give 75 rep per coin to all of the classic payer race reps on your side. This will cut down on the Runecloth needed later. Heh.
There are four areas in the world where a green true dragon would be flying around, besides the area around Sunken Temple: Ashenvale, the Hinterlands, Feralas and Duskwood. All of those zones have an area where a (non-functional) portal to the Emerald Dream exists, which is guarded by a true green dragon and a whole lot of dragonkin.
I’ve seen the Dragon in the Swamp of Sorrows. Where is the corresponding portal?
No portal there. Somnus is just a wandering elite. There’s one in the Blasted Lands, too. Sometimes a dragon is just a dragon.
heh. Thanks.
There’s another option! I think it’s one of the Tauren druid trainers who has a quest to get soil from Un’goro and mix it with seeds, see what blooms. There’s a vendor on that same rise who sells you a seed packet for a small fee. Get soil from the AH or Un’goro (little piles on the ground), turn in special seed results for rep with the Tauren. You can also get standard herbs which you can use as an alchemist/inscriptionist or sell on the AH.
Sorry! I didn’t mean to confuse you…the portals are only in the four areas I listed. Other wandering dragons are just wandering dragons.
Yup, thanks. Although, I seem to “roll” poorly with those seed pods. I always get some tier two herb, like Mageroyal.
There are elites, and then there are elites. The only thing the elite flag really tell you is that the mob is tougher than other mobs of the same level, it doesn’t tell you how much tougher.
Yes, that is annoying, if it is any comfort they stopped doing this in tbc, so any level 60+ quest that has the dungeon tag requires you to enter the instance.
But to be fair, prior to patch, oh, 2.3 or 2.4, the mobs outside the instances were elites too so those quests were not trivial to solo.
