World of Warcraft questions

We’re not evil, just misunderstood

Hmm. I checked but didn’t see one last time. I’ll have to look again when I log in this weekend, thanks!

I ain’t evil, I’m just good lookin’.

They need Alice Cooper to do a commercial now. Blood Elf, maybe.

Nope, just good at battlegrounds!

Regarding the “Nation of Adoration” achievement for the Love is in the Air event: You have to receive a Gift of Adoration in each of the three capitals (for Alliance, SW, IF, and Dar). Does it have to come from a non-guard NPC to count? My pally has received two Gifts of Adoration from guards in IF, but it appears neither one counted toward the achievement. The GoA I got in SW counted, but I can’t recall who I got it from. On the other hand, the only non-guard NPC I could find in IF with a heart over his head was a human, and his Gift of Friendship was Homemade Bread, which is the same thing they hand out is SW, so I assume his GoA would also count toward SW. Similarly, I had to get all my Bottles of Homebrew from a dwarf NPC in SW - I couldn’t find any dwarfs in IF handing it out.

One thing I’m learning from the current event is just how feckin’ lazy some people are. It’s apparently too much work, in a feckin’ video game, to run/ride around the city looking for NPCs to give tokens to, judging by the number of people I saw in SW whose strategy was to just sit down on the ground in front of a guard and click on him every time he lit up. At one point I found three people sitting on the ground in front of Morris Lawry, one of the panhandlers in SW.

My pally successfully completed the Dangerous Love quest chain, so now she’s running around in her [del]Sexy[/del] Lovely Red Dress

Yes, for the achievement you have to get [Gift of Adoration] from your three main cities. [Pledge of Adoration], which the guards give, doesn’t count. Once you have the achievement, though, the guard gifts are just as good as the non-guard ones for the purpose of getting Love Rockets, Arrows, etc.

This is exactly the situation I am in, I always play this character (my main is a Blood Elf Warlock who has never even entered an instance) with another Paladin, I am specced Retribution he is specced Protection. So in the Shredder fight, for example, I didn’t get hit once and spent my time either dpsing the boss or healing the tank when necessary.

Huh. Whatever it was they’d give me if I didn’t already have a Gift of Adoration active on me was good enough to keep me from getting another one for an hour. Kinda silly that it isn’t also good enough for the achievement.

In any case, I still couldn’t find any non-guard dwarf NPCs with hearts over their heads.

Darnassus, OTOH, was a piece of cake (though it helped being the least populous of the three cities).

Sorry, allergic to PvP. I guess I’ll just keep singing. It could be worse, someone was Rick-rolling the Trade channel this morning.

For the poster who complained about a lack of non-guard amorous dwarves:

Males: the locksmith and pie-selling vendor gnome, both at the Great Forge.

Females: the fruit-selling vendor gnome in the Mystic Quarter and the waitress at the inn that’s a bit clockwise of the AH.

To improve your chances in cases like this, buy a bottle each of cologne and perfume, and dab on the appropriate scent when you need to. Only downside is the 2 minute shared cooldown on the bottles.

Meh. For some reason, the Valentine analog holiday has never really caught my interest. I’m pretty much ignoring the goblincupids all over the place and just playing like normal.

It’s funny because it’s really the only holiday I completely don’t feel at all. Even the short ones (New Year’s and Noblegarden) get me interested enough to play along, but the Valentine one? Eh.

I don’t like the Valentine’s holiday much either (or the Children’s Day one) but I’m determined that I’m going to have the protodrake for completing all the holiday meta-achievements, so I have to slog away. Right now I’m getting frustrated because I have everything I need for the achievement except three pieces of heart candy. I’ve only been able to pull one Candy Bag since I started, and I can’t get any more gifts until this afternoon when I get home from work.

What’s really annoying me is that it’s going to be more than a year before I get the drake, because I didn’t have the foresight to do the Brew of the Month Club achievement at last year’s Brewfest (which was right after they started with the achievement thing but before WotLK came out). So I have to join the BotM club in October and then drink one brew a month for the next year before I can get my drake. Unless they nerf it (which I hope desperately that they will, but they’ve said that they probably won’t. I’ll believe it when I see it, though. They also said there wouldn’t be gender changes or PvP/PvE realm transfers.) It doesn’t help that Brewfest is my least favorite of all the holidays (“Woo! Let’s all get drunk!”)

I just noticed that the latest patch boosted the duration on paladin Seals from 2 minutes to 30 minutes. Yay! That 2 minute thing was probably the biggest pain in the neck about playing a paladin.

Last night my paladin completed all the gift collecting/combining and turned in her Allliance Gift Pack thingy in SW. Viewing the vote totals (Lightbringer server, Alliance was leading ~1510 to ~836) I found it odd that the name listed as SW leader did not match up with the name of the actual King standing there. I’m of course familiar with the “Defias kidnapped the king” storyline, but if Varian Wrynn has been crowned king and the general public apparently thinks his father is dead (or did I misunderstand something?) why isn’t Varian Wrynn’s name listed in the scores? I mean, his mouseover says “King of Stormwind”.

HAH! Not that long ago (on the order of less than 6 months), seals were 30 SECONDS! You don’t know pain-in-the-neck!

Someone didn’t update the Valentine scripts, obviously. Prior to roughly 3.0, the leader in Stormwind actually WAS Bolvar Fordragon, acting as regent for Varian’s son (along with a certain secretly shapeshifted dragon). They must have just re-inserted the Valentine code into the patch without taking note of changes since the last one.

What about the old MC days when Pallies only had single target 5-minute duration Pally buffs? As I understand from some of my Pally friends, they spent most of their raids just rebuffing people, with the occassional cleanse or heal thrown in. Boy am I glad I didn’t role a Pally.

And apparently got consumed by using Judgments, so they had to be reapplied each time. The extension to 30 minutes is a natural realization that, with the consumption mechanic removed, there’s no good reason to have seals wear out that quickly.

The more I read up on pre-Lich King history, the more I think I came in at a good time. Some changes I think are unnecessary, making the game easier for no good reason, but some are pretty welcome.

See? I apparently had completely blocked THAT mechanic from my memory as a trauma defense.
