Mine is actually an area of a zone - the gnome/goblin raceway in Shimmering Flats, which technically is part of Thousand Needles. I’ve done just about every quest there (except that one broken one) and am miffed that there’s not more. There’s just something about a bunch of gnomes and goblins, out in the middle of a sand flat, running a racetrack that makes me laugh every time I go there. Add in that so many of the quests involve one or the other faction trying to trick each other, sabotage their cars, build better cars, or get the other side drunk and it’s just too much fun.
On the other hand, I’m not all that partial to Duskwood and Stranglethorn. Which is too bad, since Stranglethorn is like quest central. I think that’s part of it - I’m just sick of being there. Plus the damn arrow vendor is all the way on the other side of the zone from the city. Why the heck don’t the pirates sell arrows?!?
Argh, Duskwood! That drove me nuts when I was there, since the two main areas for doing stuff were at total opposite ends of the zone. Far, far too many quests had me running back and forth between Raven Hill and Darkshire. Ditto for Stranglethorn with Booty Bay at the tip, though it’s not so bad. I can’t wait for level 40…
I think my favorite zone so far is Redridge Mountains, again partly because of travel. Lakeshire is well situated to be in the middle of everything, so you never end up travelling too far for a quest. I was actually kind of sad to leave that place.
least favorite - Redridge Mountains, don’t know why, just really don’t like it for some reason [maybe the scenery?
most favorite - ashenvale if it is for quests/hunting, or moonglade for sitting and quietly fishing or just hanging out and chatting with friends as it is very peaceful.
The flats are fun, and in beta I did a lot in stranglethorn but I agree, I really don’t like it, but on the other hand I do like Duskwood except for the Stalvin quest [because of all the damned running around to every other zone=] because many of the quests there feed into each other.
On the Alliance side, I’m really impressed with the beauty of Ashenvale. Very first time I was walking down the road to Astranaar, I saw the statue of the hunter off to the left. “Ooh, pretty!” Then I saw the two 20th lvl spiders. “And dangerous, too.” (I was only 18th lvl at the time)
On the Horde side, Mulgore is just beautiful. I really like the amount of effort they put into making the environments good to look at and just be in. It really makes the game worth playing.
Stranglethorn is great if you’re playing as the Horde, because it’s the only zone I’ve seen so far that has two windmasters in it. One in Booty Bay, and one in Grom’Gol. Makes getting from one end of the zone to the other a snap. And oh my God, the quests! Two levels ago, I emptied my quest log entirely and filled it with nothing but Stranglethorn quests. Still haven’t run out. A good quarter of the ones I have left are still red to me!
The Barrens, on the other hand, is a pain. Takes forever to cross it North to South, and it’s just those endless goddamn plains. But at least it has The Crossroads, which links to just about every windmaster on the continent. Once you’re done with the quests, it’s pretty convenient.
They do. The arrow vendor is about exactly under the entrance to BB from Stranglethorn.
I agree, the race track is my favorite area. I was fascinated the first time I found it. I liked Duskwood. There are a few that I dislike, but naturally I can’t think of their names right now. It’s the outdoor zones that are so packed with aggro mobs that traveling is a real pain.
