World Trade Center bombing and government incompetence?

not long after the WTC was bombed on 9/11 i thought it the government intentionally allowed it to be attacked. but a couple of years ago i just started to believe it was just severe incompetence or miscommunication that allowed it to be destroyed. basically, with USA spending more money than any other country on military, if we can’t defend ourselves from a small team of amateur bombers, how safe are we in an actual war? but really the purpose of my post is to get opinions on what were the likely incompetencies and mistakes that allowed it to happen? past discussions i can find are posts about wether it was executed by the government or as insurance fraud by the WTC owner(s), so please note my question is not asking about that matter. was it just a dumb general, air traffic control telling the government that they didnt need to worry about the problem, several bizarre coincidences, or what??

I’m not really getting the question you’re asking, but the US military is amazing at fighting conventional warfare. They’re very good at unconventional warfare as well, but seem to have forgotten how to do it/don’t want to do it.

Even today, nobody wants the government to scramble jets and shoot down every off-course plane.

But, your question is so open-ended as to be unanswerable. There have been millions of pages written about what happened on 9/11. You might want to read the 9/11 commission report (direct pdf download), for starters.

the commission report was set up by the government, no way i would believe whatever it’s conclusions are. im just wondering what are the opinions on who or what was the incompetent part in all this. but it is so open ended that i will close this thread and seek the answer another way.

The US government gets threats all day long. The Bush administration did not take the threat of Airliners being used as weapons seriously. Even if they did how could they have stopped it? The reason why 9/11 wont happen again is because of passengers. No one would allow their aircraft to be taken over today.

It’s surprisingly easy to commit terrorist acts, and I don’t mean just within the US. Anywhere in the world, you can pretty much do whatever you want if you’re smart and patient enough. You might as well say that if we’ve got these highly trained police officers driving around cars 24/7, then obviously every murder is a police conspiracy. Unfortunately, that’s just not the way it works. Unless someone makes their intent clear, you can’t guard against what they plan to do short of making everything in the world a maximum security installation.

Just think of all of the malls and supermarkets and schools that don’t have steel doors with fingerprint locks and men with guns guarding them! Well, so previous to 9/11, why make an airplane more guarded than a supermarket or a bus?

Ultimately, what protects the US isn’t the CIA, NSA, nor the military. It’s these four items:

  1. The Atlantic ocean. Terrorist attacks on Europe are significantly more common.
  2. The terrorist leaders have no desire nor hope of winning, so really don’t make any effort beyond the minimum needed to beat their own chests.
  3. There is no one terrorist leadership, nor is there one country who they consider to be their enemy.
  4. The number of actual terrorists willing to fight as a soldier or as a suicide attacker smaller than you’re probably thinking. Most attacks on US soldiers abroad are more likely to be local gangs than terrorists following a particular ideology.

Jetblast is that you?
First off the WTC wasn’t bombed. Each tower was struck by a large airplane that had been hijacked and was full of fuel and kinetic energy. The damage from the hit, and the resulting fires weakened the structure enough that it collapsed from its own weight.

Before you dismiss it, maybe you should read it.
Maybe you’ll agree with their conclusions.

How are you going to do that?

Can you imagine the conspiracy theories that would be going around if the government had had four airliners shot down by jets because they were off course?

So you won’t believe the government (whatever the conclusion is), but you will believe random posters on teh intrawebs?

Oh, OK then. It was because the Mole Men saught revenge against the Illuminati, whose secret headquarters was at the top of the WTC.

The answer is what??, because for **every day **weeks leading up to 9/11 there was a terrorist incident where a group of men armed only with boxcutters (who had got some flight training) managed to hijack passenger aircraft and fly them into tall buildings (making it look exactly as if the building had been bombed) because this would create confusion and conspiracy theories which would mean the true perpetrators, who were of course the US Government + the **Bavarian Illuminati **- which explains why you never heard about all these buildings falling down because the **Bavarian Illuminati **control all the US media and don’t tell you anything that is really happening, were able to cover their tracks.

I think we should just agree it was a ‘conspiracy’ (because it was, and no one would ever argue that).

However, if it were a gubment conspiracy, I would think that they’d be entirely too incompetent to make it work so damn well. Wow, that just went too well to have the goverment involved. And that last building that collapsed (7 WTC???)… they were just showin’ off by that point!

Open mind FAIL.

http://www.wanttoknow.info/9-11cover-up10pg The 911 timeline is a compilation of government and newspaper reports leading up to 911. There was a lot of warnings, from other governments and informers. Bush and his people did not act on them. Perhaps that is why they over reacted after 9/12. They were making a huge demonstration of what they could do, and they pretended they were not informed before. They lied.
