I know that everyone is in shock right now; I am in shock. Trying to reach my brother who lives right near Pittsburgh airport, the news is getting through but sparse and sometimes contradictory.
Earlier today when this looked like just an accident I made an off cuff remark to a colleague who is from Pakistan that was SO inappropriate, I wish I could take it back now. But sometimes the words don’t go back in your mouth.
Please remember that all Muslims are not terrorist, many are Americans or live and work here in America and are damn good people. The incidiary stuff is not appropriate and can cause more problems than it will ever solve. We don’t even know for sure yet who is doing this although I am sure that speculation is rife.
If you need to vent, go to the Pits and do so. Then take a deep breath and calm down. This is what they, whoever they are, want. They want us freaked out, and playing by their rules. I am for a strong, appropriate response, but let’s not get into group hatred and a game of blaming everyone, including the innocents. Be rational. Think before you speak or act.
My heart goes out to everyone who has suffered from this, directly or indirectly.
My cable is currently out. I just heard about this maybe half an hour ago, when my mom called, because she “just had to hear her children’s voices.”

They’re saying now that AA flight 11 had 81 passangers. AA has lost contact with one of it’s flights out of Dulles to LA, 58 passangers.

My condolences to the families of all those involved in any way, as well as to the States in general. What can I say?
I wonder how Bush will handle this one. Presumably, several groups will claim responsibility and the most likely one will be found and targeted. CNN mentioned Afghanistan however I don’t think they necessarily had a firm basis for this. If new terrorism involves suicide bombings, what can a global missile shield do to protect against it?

This just in (Fox News Chicago): American Airlines has confirmed that two of the three planes involved were theirs - flight 11 from Boston to LA and flight 77 from Dulles to LA. 11 is said to be the first one to hit WTC, 77 is the one reported to have hit the Pentagon. No word yet on the third plane.
We are not able to locate one of my husband’s co-workers who is traveling by air right now. My husband has business associates in the WTC. Another friend is awaiting news from someone who was to come in to O’Hare from NYC today.
This is scary as hell. I posted this elsewhere, but if anyone is having trouble with phone lines and needs to keep someone informed, please let me know, I will try to place calls for you.

Checking in from Jackson Wyoming…very weird morning obviously. It had crossed my mind on my way to work that Cheney might be in town, as he has a home here. When I went to drop off my daughter at 1st grade, there were no children on the playground. I walked her into the school & spoke with her teacher who said they’d be keeping them inside for now & allowing people in & out of only designated doors. If I wasn’t freaked out before (well, I was) that really hit too close. Now I’m sitting at work just trying to digest the info…too shocking.

I saw the video on tv of the World Trade Centers it looked surreal like some sort of hollywood special effect.
So far I don’t know what stores closed today around Monterey, but it’ll be interesting to see.
