I just saw the news footage of Palestinians celebrating the terrorist attacks here, passing out candy and dancing. It’s digusting.
I am not a very religious person, but I am praying…hard.
200 fire fighters missing in New York. Horrible.
2 United flights have crashed, one outside Pittsburgh. Flight 175 a 767 going from Boston to LA has crashed, location unknown.
Another aircraft possibly still missing.
This is the first chance I have had to check here today. We are very busy at work today so I don’t know when I can check back here. I will read the threads later when I get home. (As far as I know, all of my loved ones are safe and sound. A couple people at work here have loved ones near the areas of the attacks, but the news so far is good).
For now I just wanted to let you all know that I hope everyone near and dear to all of you is safe. You are all in my thoughts and prayers today.

This is absolutely horrible. I hope that all NYC dopers are safe. I cannot believe this is actually happening. Within 2 hours it seems that the U.S. is completely crippled. Even in Florida all of our CO’s (verizon) are swamped and circuits are busy.
I work selling dsl for verizon and am AMAZED that people are calling in for info on the service! I feel like telling them to hang up the f***ing phone and call your family!

I overslept this morning and didn’t hear about this till I signed onto IRC.
I am praying for our friends in New York City and Washington, D.C. I talked to punha eariler, and his mom is OK. She works in Washington. I am also praying for Tripler, who is on exercise in Kuwait, and who will likely be on alert for a while, as well as all American Dopers who are in the military. This is what they’ve been training for, and what they hoped would never happen.
I cannot believe that anyone would be so fanatical as to want to wreak this kind of devastation on one country. The people working in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon didn’t deserve this. The people on those planes didn’t deserve this. They are innocent victims of madmen.
You can be sure that President Bush will commit every available resource the US has to find those responsible (I can’t even bring myself to call them “people”; they just don’t seem like human beings to me) and bring them to justice. The world deserves no less.
One final thing. Everyone who is able to should at least attempt to donate blood. With the sheer number of injured, blood supplies are down to nothing. Call your local hospital or the Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE-BLOOD. If you can’t donate blood, then donate money.

I don’t have anything new to add to all your sentiments. As a sidebar, I will tip my hat to the BBC, who are doing an excellent job of relaying information in a timely fashion.
I just happened to have my tv on BBCAmerica this morning when I found out about this tragedy.
My prayers go out to everyone, of course. Just makes me want to pick up my kids from school and give them a big hug.
All of LAX is being evacuated too. It appears three of the flights involved were bound for LA.
The planning and execution of this travesty is stunning. Living in freedom in this grand country of ours will certainly have a different meaning after today.
NYC is asking for blood donations. Let’s all be good Americans and do what we can to help our fellow citizens.
According to The Times There are still a few airplanes unaccounted for, one supposedly headed for DC.
For what it’s worth, I work in mid-town manhattan.
It’s fairly chaotic here, and they’re asking everyone to donate blood.
Of course you can see the smoke in the sky and hear sirens fairly regularly.
Apparently they’ve closed the bridges and tunnels, so I’m not sure how I will get home.
I’m hoping that we’ve seen the last of this terrorist attack - the last thing we need is anthrax on top of all this.
From my time at University of Michigan I have a bunch of Arabic friends who live in Dearborn, and any time something like this happens I get scared to death for my friends that Dearborn will be the target of stupid mindless anger because of its large Arabic community. Are there any Detroit area people around? How are things there. I can’t get crap for news.

I don’t know what to say. My heart feels like its about to implode and my eyes are probably puffy and red. The first two hit right before my microbial genetics class. That was bad, but then when I got out of class and discovered about the subsequent crashes time slowed down and became surreal.
I second the request for people to donate BLOOD. It is the best thing people not directly involved can do.
I’m horrified at this news and can only offer my condolances to those directly involved, and their relatives.
We were sent home just before 11AM eastern time, and told not to come back till we hears something on TV or radio. I hear rumblings to the north - I’m hoping it’s just thunder, but it scares me all the same… I wish I had more confidence in our leadership…
I’ll say AMEN to that. They’ll need everything they can get, times ten. We may not have even seen the last attack. Please do what you can…if you’ve never given blood before or it’s been awhile, please go in and donate. If you’re scared, consider what others are going through right now. It really is worth it.
BTW, my sister-in-law is a nurse in Fairfax, VA. All the area hospitals are swamped with injuries from the Pentagon. Sounds like the damage there is much worse than the networks are covering.
I’ve just talked with a crying Shayna, and I’ve no words for the anger I’m feeling. I’m feeling powerleess, useless and in the wrong place by about 10.000 km.
My thoughts go out to the victims and their families. I desperately hope Vix is all right. My deepest respect and admiration goes out to those police officers, firefighters & paramedics who’re in the thick of it right now.

my best friend eggo, whom you all heard went on the road earlier this year is currently in NYC (he loves that damn city), but I haven’t heard from him. this troubles me a great deal, because he liked to park his bus on wall street, broadway, etc. I’ll update as I find out more.
