Worst day ever? No, but close

Why? Because the great big budget monster has come along and decided to bite your fair Mully square in the butt. Ugh, and on the day we close on our house.

It’s OK though. I was feeling stagnant after 4 months, which is not a good sign and I didn’t get along with the boss. Thanks to my optimistic outlook, I am looking at this as a positive. Something better will come.

So, I will likely not be on the board for the next few days, sorting things out and figuring out what I want to do when I grow up. I better have a huge party thrown for me when I get back. Or not, but it can’t hurt to ask.

I’ll see you all in a few days. Tell Coldfire to felch a goat for me.

Sorry, Mully. We’ll have a huge blowout luau on the Survivor island when you return in your honor. Good luck! :frowning:

Ouch, good luck. And remember to land on your feet, it’s easier that way.

Dig it Mully.

The big bad Fate Monster is just doin’ it’s thing.

You’re bright enough to bring you and yours out of this bind, with nary a blink.

Sorry to hear about your situation, or not, depending on how things turn out for you. Do computers much? If so, there are definately a few openings in this industry…

Good Luck, tell your old boss to do the goat felching.

Find that new boss and beat him into shape!

We’ll be here waitin’ for ya!

Sorry to hear that, Mully. My company has just announced plans to cut 7% of our workforce, focusing on middle and senior management. 'Scuse me? That’s where I live! Oh, well, sounds like you have the right attitude. I know you’ll land on your feet. Like I told my cow orkers, this ain’t exactly the worst economy in which to be laid off.

Mullinator,

I hope that you read this prior to your sabatical.

Your profile places you in Atlanta and indicates you to be a ?unix? sysadmin and accountant.

I hate to use MPSIMS for REAL stuff, but Automated Wagering International has a regional office in Atlanta. They build Lottery systems (which is really 5% selling tickets and 95% accounting for them). It’s pretty cool work, one can arrange as much travel as is desired, and they are a unix shop. I worked with the group for nearly ten years and they’ve got a pretty good group of people. They work hard and they play hard.

Good luck,

Ouch! Been bit there myself by that particular monster (and it looks like he might want another taste).

Hope you land on your feet, Mully.

chrisbar

You’ll pull through, Mully. You’re a Republican, for God’s sake.

Hang in there, Mully. I would felch a goat for you, had it not been for an immediate lack of goats on my behalf. Plenty of ducks, though. Will a duck do?

I don’t now you, yet,
but still I want to wish you the best.
Take care.

–ahem–I BEG your pardon…? [insert frosty Margaret Dumont smilie]

Mully, potatoes are a-boilin’ for Return of Mullinator party potato salad even as we speak. Do you like it with mustard or without? Chopped celery? Chopped onion? What are your views on bacon bits?

Sorry to hear it Mully. Actually no I’m not: you can do better. A change will be a good thing (as long as you’ve got access to the SDMB).

But for that other part… you don’t need to grow up mate. Ever. Fight it tooth and nail… Fight it on the beaches; fight it on the shores; fight it in your bathtub…

Yes I have a Peter Pan complex

Good attitude, Mully!

You’re in Atlanta, the economy is humpin’ and you didn’t like the old boss, anyway. It’s always a bit of a drag to have to reinvent your employment situation, but it sounds like you might benefit from a change.

Good luck!

Hey Mully,

Sounds like your changes are going to be more than you had thought. But, you’re such a smart great guy that I’ll bet this all will come out to your advantage. Make your move, keep your dreams, and here’s me at a few feet below pullin’ for ya.

Hey Doc,

I work for a competing major California company (in the same industry) that was acquired by another.

I hope you don’t mind our insensitivity, but when we heard the news about your layoffs several of us were heard chanting: “Our merger is better than theirs!”

Of course, now that I’ve talked smack Mr. K will announce 30,000 layoffs tomorrow.

As others have said, the economy IS doing well.

If it’s any consolation, I once was offered a job in my current field, but I had a bad feeling about it, and asked for a week to make a decision. I was told I had the weekend.

So, Monday afternoon, after having some reservations, I decided that a bird in the hand was better than nothing, and called to accept the job…

Only to find out that they’d given it to someone else. Never mind how unethical I thought they’d acted, I felt like shit.

However, it turned out that within a month or two, I was offered another, better job. I know it was better because a classmate from paralegal school got the job I was offered (no gripes, she didn’t undercut me–they just offered the job to her when I didn’t jump at it. Hell, they might have offered it to her at the same time, for all I know) and she met me one day and told me that the job sucked. She quit within months, while I’m still here.

So, yes, I’d write this off as “these things happen for a reason”.

Best of luck. Hope you hook up with something before too long.
