The movie is PG, not even PG-13. I think the DVD commentary says they re-recorded the swear to keep the PG rating.

What’s the best version to watch in English? This is dumb, but I didn’t even know there was an Italian version. Where can I watch that? I’ve been watching it many times for decades since I was a kid (pre-internet), but only randomly when it comes on or streaming without paying attention to the version.
After the release of the 80’s Transformers movie there was a lot of backlash over the killing of Optimus Prime (and most of the original cartoon cast, that movie was like the red wedding in the middle of a kids cartoon) Hasbro changed the ending of the GI Joe movie which released a month or two afterwards. So in the climactic scene when Duke is supposed to sacrifice himself to save a new character nobody really gave a shit about they simply over dubbed “into a coma” after the doctor says “he’s gone”. It sounds ridiculous, and everyone is obviously reacting as if he had died.
The worst (and by worst I mean best) overdub is Mel Brooks saying “Don’t be stupid be a smarty, come and join the Nazi Party” in all versions of The Producers. It’s unmistakably Mel Brooks and an overly obvious overdub. Not only is it in both movie versions the line was also lip synced in every performance on stage.
I agree. I’ve always found this wonderfully awful.
Another one from Bond – at the end of The Man with the Golden Gun Bond traps Tattoo in the large trunk and hauls him off. Tattoo continues to protest, but Bond says “Shut up!”
The voice doesn’t sound remotely like Roger Moore’s. It’s as if they realized that they needed someone to say that last line, didn’t think it was worth bringing Roger Moore back to do it, and simply gave it to some random actor.
In The Maltese Falcon, someone clearly NOT Mary Astor says “why don’t you make him tell the truth!?” as Mary Astor performs a kick aimed at Peter Lorre.
It’s very disconcerting as the voice doesn’t match Astor’s even remotely.

The Defiling of the Legend of the Lone Ranger, Right up the Butt, Kemosabe!
A movie so ineptly acted, scripted, written and … fuck, whats the word? Anyway… that they scraped the Main Character’s (you know, The Fucking Lone Goddamn Ranger) entire dialog and dubbed it in later (By the very cromulent James Keach).
Easily one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. And that says a whole fucking lot, if you know my movie reviews on this Wonderful Message Board.
The scene that defines “overdub that distracts from the film” for me is in The Blues Brothers.
When Jake and Elwood go to visit The Penguin (a nun), there is a scene where one of them accidentally lets a curse word slip, then the nun smacks him…then the other one swears, then they continue swearing with each swat as she whacks them until they beat a hasty stumbling retreat falling down the stairwell.
The scene makes no sense whatsoever if the nun starts smacking them over “Shucks!” “Golly!” and “Gee whiz!”, as was done for the television edit.
Yeah, it would have still been funny if they’d just bleeped the words.
We can’t even count the Steven Seagal “movies”* that he is making now. He doesn’t show up for any ADR, so it is all just other people trying to imitate his grumble. He also doesn’t do a bunch of takes, so many shots are of other actors in shadows pretending to be him.
*I’ve long suspected his movies are money laundering schemes. It’s the only thing that makes sense.
The opening scene of Scarface (1983) shows Tony Montana (Al Pacino) being interrogated by an immigration officer. You can’t see his face, but his voice is clearly that of veteran character actor Charles Durning. When the shot eventually pulls out, it’s another actor, but Charles Durning’s voice still speaking. If you didn’t know who Durning was, the overdub wouldn’t be quite so jarring and obvious, but he has been in so many movies (including with Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon, where he had a prominent role) and his voice so recognizable, it makes it distracting.
Kirk’s Enterprise was a Constitution Class Starship. I searched to be sure.
Non-dialogue example: in Nebraska, the main character’s male relatives are watching a football game on TV - but it’s clearly been overdubbed with audio from a radio broadcast.

For some reason I always notice Paul Frees’ voice – perhaps because I was raised on Bullwinkle and Disney. So it really jumped out in Midway (1976) when Toshiro Mifune’s dialog as Adm Yamamoto was entirely overdubbed by Paul Frees.
