Worst overdubs that made it into the final cut

Same in the film Grand Prix. It is weird!

Another is the Al Pacino movie, Cruising. His character is a cop who goes undercover to catch a serial killer targeting gay men. The gay community living near the location shoot protested by making so much noise that all exterior audio was useless. And its OBVIOUS.

Also from The Godfather: Moe Green’s outburst with Michael when he says “I talked to Barzini.”

I always notice Frees’ voice, too, and it frequently takes me out of the moment. His is the voice of the Romasn officer addressing the defeated slaves on the hillside after the final battle in *Spartacus, the one offering to free the one who identifies Spartacus.

He did not only the opening and closing narration in George Pal’s Atlantis, the Lost Continent, he also dubbed the voices of two of the actors.

He did a lot of foreign dubbing, too. In The Sword and the Dragon (Ilya Mourometz in the original Russian), he does, among others, the voice of Tsar Kalin, leader of the Mongol-like Tugars. When they spoofed this film on MST3K they were painfully aware of this, and had Kalin say that he wanted “Moose and Squirrel” (since Frees, as you point out, did the voice of Boris Badenov). He also dubbed voices in the English versions of Godzilla and Rodan, although he’s less obvious in those.

Frees also appears in Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (where he’s onscreen as a TV announcer) and the 1951 version of The Thing (where he’s not so obvious).

In a similar fashion…

Not necessarily bad overdubs, but the voices of several of the early Bond girls were all one and the same: Nikki van der Zyl.

I saw Dangerous Minds on a flight, back in the days before you had a screen at your seat, and movies had to be edited for language. A classroom full of gang members yelling 'That’s bullstuff, man!" leaves a lasting impression.

(not so much a dubbing one) As for that Darth Vader point, it reminded me of Jean-Claude Van Damme in Expendables 2, with his deathless delivery of the line “Put dem…on de plane.” then a half second later pointing, well, nowhere near the plane. Cocaine’s a bad idea, kidz.

In Major League, Roger Dorn tells Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn to “strike this motherfucker out!” In some TV airings, “motherfucker” is changed to “guy,” and the voice is in a much lower pitch than Dorn’s.

In The Goonies, Corey Feldman had to dub over Mouth saying Chunk claimed he ate his weight in Godfather Pizza when the original line was Straw Hat Pizza, who declined the marketing opportunity. Godfathers ran with the collectable glasses with purchase that seemed to be everywhere at the time.

Not an overdub but Andor was supposed to have a different closing line for Maarva’s speech:
(be advised, spoilers for all of Andor season 1 in the video)

Correct. The Stargazer was originally going to be a Constitution-class ship but they decided at the last minute to make a new ship and go with the name Constellation-class.
