Gore was 50/50 with Bush, and he was not considered a flip-flopper and he was not considered ‘as’ liberal as Kerry. He also had 8 years experience as the vice president. Had he run would he have won the 2004 election?
Very, very unlikely. Yeah he got %50+ of the vote last time, but “he’s damaged goods, man.” He’s yesterday’s news. As Bush so eloquently put it in his acceptance speech, “We are on the path to the future – and we’re not turning back.”
Gore could have run stronger in Florida than Kerry. Also, a Gore/Edwards ticket could have been competitive in some of the border Clinton states.
If Gore could have won I’m pretty confident he would have run. Like they say in the lottery, you can’t win if you don’t play. I figure (to continue the lottery analogy) that Gore roughly felt he had about the same odds of winning.

Yeah true. Gore had the (largely economic) successes of the Clinton administration backing him up in 2000, in 2004 many people have forgotten about them.
No, he couldn’t have won, but you could have.
Al Sharpton and I are going to run in 2008, so keep hope alive.
