Bean pie, a custard made with mashed beans.
I like sweet potato pie more than pumpkin: less fluffy. I love Asian pastries with red bean filling. I’d have to find a bean pie recipe and make my own, since Black Muslims are thin on the ground out here in the 'burbs.
I’ll just repeat this story from the dim recesses of my past:
In the early 1970s, I worked in a health-food restaurant in San Francisco. One morning, a salesman from the Shabazz Bakery wandered in to convincing the manager to carry his wares. When the manager hesitated, the salesman prodded: “You just gotta buy some o’ these bean pies, man! This is the dawning of a new age!”
The manager accepted, and they proved reasonably popular.
Mmm. Bean pies!
You can buy bean pie mix online. Once I was having a craving and I stumbled on a website selling it. Haven’t tried it, though. The bean pie that I fantasize about in my head tastes so heavenly that I’m scared I’ll spoil it.
