That is, I would say, by far the worst episode of the series. There were a bunch of other sub par episodes generally near it, as well; I think that it’s mostly recovered by now, though.
Anyways, re: the OP, I like everything on there but Lost (and I haven’t seen Supernatural), and I enjoy-don’t-love Bones. It’s definitely on my watch list, but I don’t live and die by it. If you’re just looking for some light entertainment with great characters and interactions, I say go for it!
We watch Bones and enjoy it. My husband likes it more than I do. I hate the fact that Tempe is supposed to be a writer but she’s so freaking clueless, though I do often think they’re trying to play the cluelessness as a coping mechanism for her miserable childhood.
What makes me sad is all the people in this thread who haven’t seen my favorite show on TV. Watch Supernatural! It’s awesome! I’ll give you a nickel!
I think that while **Bones **is not terrible, it’s not a very good show, and it’s gradually getting worse (I hate Ryan O’Neal’s character, and the serial killer wrap-up pissed me off.) Yet I’ve seen every episode because I enjoy watching David Boreanaz. My favorite show is the Christmas episode from first season.
I’ll also recommend House, particularly the first season. And I really like The Closer, although this last season was sub-par. New episodes start up in January!
I’ve never even heard of **Supernatural **before, but I just put it near the top of my Netflix list. I’ll look for my nickel in the mail.
Dude, where’s my cue? Dammit, doing it myself is so…tacky.
Yes, you and all of your family will love it and all of Kathy Reichs’ books, especially Bones to Ashes, Devil Bones, and her next one, tentatively entitled 206 Bones (a title I HATE, but what do I know? I’m just her research droid.).
I have a friend who will not watch any sort of medical drama because it reminds him too much of the time he spent in the hospital 20 years ago, being treated for cancer.
But you’re an MD, right? My wife likes it because it shows at least ONE doctor realistically (House)–as a drug-addicted asshole. But the RNs defer to him, both when he’s in the room and out, without telling him to fuck off. MDs are a dime a dozen, but RNs who speak English are golden.
God no! I’m a respiratory therapist only! But as I am the only RT on duty in my ER, I “get” to be in on some very interesting cases even though we’re a very small hospital. I see enough of that stuff, so I try to avoid medical shows.
(Nicely played! There seem to be no people who like MDs less that thems professionals what work with them) Well, I missed the ENTIRE run of St Elsewhere because, in the pilot, they performed CPR incorrectly. “People watching will think it’s the correct way and will KILL people!”
Wife’s favorite was an anti-drug ad that showed a fellow in a suit entering an elevator while the narrator listed the illicit drugs he was on. She topped it off with, “And stay out of his way because he’s late for surgery.”
She doesn’t like doctors and no longer works with them.
Smart and witty? Intelligent? Good? I vote yes. Police procedural? Very seldom.
What I like is the quirky characters and their interactions. (For the record, IMHO Tempe is being portrayed as slightly or modestly impaired by Asperger’s Syndrome.)
Another major like is the very clever ways in which the writers kill off the victim. Cooked in an airline microwave/convection oven? Check. Bones scattered up in trees? Check.
I don’t care for the crime recreations of the CSI shows, but the disgusting body recoveries and “science” performed in the lab I find pretty humorous.
