Would Jeanie have submitted to Colonel Nelsons carnal desires if he commanded her to?

Hmmm . . . And no hint of who they cast as Jeannie.

Any predictions/suggestions?

The idea of a movie remake is interesting in light of the OP. On the one hand, our attitudes about sex are much more relaxed now than in 1965. OTOH, now we have feminism. So, in a story about a guy who suddenly has a gorgeous (and magical) babe as his slave . . . how much can he get away with? More than the original Major Nelson, or considerably less?

well, it’s unlikely the project will be completed. The pre-production note says this project has been “stuffed back into the bottle.” Indefinitely, one can only hope.
I bet the only reason Fallon wants to do this is because Farrell did “Bewitched”

My money’s on Scarlett Johannsen. Oh, they’ve called this one off? We’ll see. It’ll get re-made eventually, because apparently everything will.

She’s a bit lanky, but looks and personality wise I always thought Jenna Elfman would make a good “Jeannie”

Oh… and Brendan Fraser for Col Nelson.

deifinitely - much better choice than Fallon; Kelsey Grammer for Dr Bellows, Matt LeBlanc for Roger Healy

A bigger shot.

When did Major Nelson get promoted to Colonel?

It’s almost sad what I have in my brain.

I saw a Larry King on this once with Larry Hagman, Barbara Eden and Bill Daily.

If you want to read exactly the whole transcript of the interview it’s at
http://cnnstudentnews.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0306/02/lkl.00.html

*KING: Right now, if they did that show, they’d do it with a lot more sexual innuendo, wouldn’t they?

DAILY: Oh, sure. Absolutely.

KING: In modern-day times, they would do it…

HAGMAN: Well, we had a lot in those days, but it was clean sex. You know, I mean, it was, like – we never did it.

EDEN: You know, you don’t really need sex in that show, though. It’s…

HAGMAN: Honey, it was underlying everything…*

And, FYI, Hagman and Eden both blamed the wedding for killing the show.

*KING: Did you have a favorite episode?

EDEN: No. I guess – I guess one of the most fun for me was the wedding show, but I didn’t like it because I knew it was killing our show. I knew it.

KING: You mean, was that the – one of the…

EDEN: Oh, of course. They shouldn’t have married. They never should have married. She wasn’t real!

HAGMAN: We’d still be on the air if hadn’t gotten married.

KING: That was a mistake.

HAGMAN: Yes.

HAGMAN: Killed it*

Sometime between the end of the series and the sequel TV movie in the 80s, I suppose.
Really, a gorgeous girl going Master this, Master that, Yes Master… whooee they’d have a hard time with THAT today.

In Tony Nelson’s defense, I can see how if confronted with having this Creature of Unknown Origin who looks human but is allegedly and apparently a djinn taking up residence at my home, I may want to be tenfold more cautious and circumspect than with any other female stranger coming into my life.

I could also guess that besides all the other considerations, showing Maj. Nelson as a professionally-competent but personally-clueless, yet overall virtuous, “Nice Guy” who would not take advantage of the situation could have gone under a general guideline of “portray the Space Program and members of the Military in a positive light” which was quite likely to be very high up in the writers’ guide.

Aha!

“His wife Jeannie Nelson, originally from Baghdad, Iraq”

This is the stupidest thread I’ve ever seen on these boards.

My question is this: is she really hot for him? Or is she hot for whoever her master is? Maybe she’s like Smithers…he’s a sycophantic Burns-o-phile; she’s a master-o-phile.

Slavery’s a job perk, but rape–that’s where I draw the line!

I can’t figure out how the show made it on the air:

“Are you not pleased with me, Master? Oh, Master, how can Broadcast Standards be so vanilla?”

Thank you, my friend.

Another possibility that has not been mentioned – Jeannie, being a magical being, may be so constituted that she just naturally loves whoever opens her bottle and wants to be their sex slave. It’s not that she feels COMPELLED to do so, any more than most people feel compelled to like fresh air and sunlight. She would be just as attracted to Hagar The Warty if he had been the one to open her bottle. Under such circumstances, Major Nelson is cruel to refuse to give her the orders she craves to hear.

Wasn’t she cast out to the desert island by a former master?

I don’t know.

You would say that…

That makes sense, but IIRC and it’s been a long time since I’ve seen the show, I think there must have been several episodes where someone else temporarily gained posession of Jeanie’s bottle. She always seemed like she prefered Nelson as Master.

Plus, in TV/movie genie lore, the genie (or djinn if you prefer) always seemed to prefer certain masters over others.
JRDelirious also has a point. Nelson may not want to risk having Jeanie go all psycho on him. She seemed a little erratic under the best of circumstances.

Still, I’d be hard pressed not to occassionally request she produce a couple of supermodels from time to time.
