Would the Rapture Be Proof Enough?

Genseric, in the case of dreamer, whom the question was directed towards, it would indeed matter because she said we have no cliue when it will happen, whether it be tomorrow or a thousand years from now. So it’s certainly important, as it would assist us while waiting for the Christian Rapture or whatever.

Dreamer, point noted, but in case you’re interested in how religious figures, philosophers, astronomers, geologists and physicists have tried to answer the question of the origin of the universe, go to your local library and borrow Measuring Eternity: The Search for the Beginning of Time, by Martin Gorst.

Opps, yeah, it was vanilla who said she expected it this year, not dreamer. However, the point remains that to someone who believes that a great possibility exists that the world as we know it will come to an end in their lifetime, surely the most important thing to them would be assuring their own place in what is to come afterwards, as opposed to bothering with things that, to them, don’t seem relevant to that goal.

Just to repeat

Not even Jesus knew.
Did he not say something to the apostles that some of them would live to see that day?
Boy was he wrong.

Clever, btw, how one third of the trinity doesn’t know what the other two thirds are up to.

Heck, I expect it every year.
One of these years, I’ll be right.

Or Independence, Mo

Ehrm… Hang on a minute.

Sorry to quote myself but this strikes me as rather important.
Jesus was wrong???
HUGE implications there!
If that is true, what else might he have gotten wrong?

Now, I’m sure I’m not the first to stumble over this one and some great minds will have come up with something to show that what we read is not what is * meant*.
Could any of you bible nitpickers please tell me how this little slip is usually explained away?

As for me (and I did say I expected it “soon” – i.e., within my lifetime, as opposed to waiting another 2,000 years), what I expect is that He will make a reappearance in a guise that will lead those who truly believe in Him – and what He taught – to recognize Him, while those who expect a Conquering Hero will reject Him, and, being in positions of power, put Him to death.

Just like last time.

Remember why Moses named his son what he did?

Because he was a stranger in Midian?

I realize that it’s a bit uncouth to resurrect old threads, but this one I couldn’t resist.

Well, the year came and went. I even gave it a one month buffer. No rapture. Is this a great disappointment?

If you are referring to this conversation between Peter and Jesus:

Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved (believed to refer to John, brother of James, sons of Zebedee)was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus answered,“If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?” John 21:20-23

Note, as Luke emphasizes, that this is a rhetorical question posed by Jesus.
