Would the SDMB Congress impeach + convict Trump?

Not too hard to predict the outcome of this poll. Though thus far it is running closer than I expected.

I’m not sure I understand you here. It takes relatively little for Republicans in the House to block a Trump impeachment; if just 92% of Republicans in the House vote against impeachment in party-line fashion, Trump isn’t impeached.

But it takes a lot for Republican Senators to remove Trump from office. For Trump to be ousted, every Democrat, every independent, and 19 Senate Republicans (that’s over 1/3 of all Republican Senators) would have to vote to convict Trump in order to reach the requisite two-thirds majority. That’s a much taller task.

I am counting on the “joiner” effect here, believing that if one domino falls, others who are unhappy would be increasingly more likely to fall as well as the number of joiners began to rise.

As I’ve said for years: Trump is an ignoramus, a moral turd, an incompetent businessman, a demagogue, a pathological liar, and a man with NO firm beliefs or principles except “I’m awesome.” He is wholly unqualified to be President and should never have been elected.

But he was.

The American people knew all his negatives, but enough of them were stupid enough to elect him anyway. Now they get what they wanted. I see no valid reason to impeach the man. The Russians didn’t elect him, millions of foolish Americans did.

You want him out? Beat him in 2020. There are currently no other grounds for removing him.
