Would This Be Hard To Do? (Oriental Carpet in Car)

I like the look of oriental carpets-and I have a nice large one. Could a pro cut and fit a carpet to my car? Or is this something impossible? Modern car carpets are molded-would a woven oriental fit the floors of a car?

Given sufficient budget, nearly anything is possible. It would take some time to work out how to cut the carpet and sew it back together to form a three dimensional shape matching the factory molded carpet.

How about floor mats instead? Those are usually flat, so they’d just need to cut it to shape and bind the edges so they don’t unravel.

I’ve done something similar.

I pulled the original thin, cheap-ass “carpet” from my Jeep and used it as a template for some better stuff. Once it was out, you can see how the hump in the middle alters the shape of the cuts.

After a while, the thicker, better carpet ( a left-over from a living-room) laid down and fit the humps and bumps pretty good.

Spend a little time, you can make it happen.

I’ve always used oriental style floor mats for my cars (not the whole carpeted area, though).

Oriental style mats can be hard to find and on my most recent car, I could only get front mats, and no back ones. I couldn’t find any sets at all last time I looked about 4-5 years ago.

You can buy oriental style runners at do-it-yourself stores and I believe they will add the finishing trim to the cut edge, too. You could also buy other types of mats to use as car floor mats, such as bath mats or kitchen mats. They won’t be perfect fits, though. Perhaps an alterations place could modify them.
