We live in the same town and have very different politics, but I’d like to meet you sometime. But I’d leave politics off the table (and religion, not topics for polite conversation). You like your kids, that means you can’t be all bad.
:: ponders his fast approaching move::
So…when is the next LA area fest?
Didn’t I see a thread about a Twin Cities Dopefest?
One has to wonder if you will have even greater difficulty after she’s met us.
He who invokes it, plans it!
(Depending on how fast it’s approaching, I probably wouldn’t be much help with a move, given that I was a klutz and broke my foot last week, falling off my rassum frassum shoes. But if you just want someone to bring some beer and sit and direct, I could be good at that! )
I was just teasing about the move. There’s no way I would ask people I haven’t even met in person to do that.
I’ll likely start a thread about it, but we finally are actually buying a condo and are supposed to close at the end of October. Some may remember the threads going over the saga we’ve been through in this thing called house hunting…I’m just glad it’s finally almost over.
all right BAY AREA are we going to get it on or spend all day talking about getting it on!? Check my new thread!!
Like a number of other people, I met my spouse at a Dopefest. I have a whole mess of “IRL” friends who I met through the SDMB.
Damn, I’m sorry. I don’t actually live IN Seattle. I’m about 35 miles southeast of it. I must have had something going on, or I would have surely tried to meet up with you.
Yeah, we’ll be at Disneyworld.
Cunctator, BACI, 1920’s Style “Death Ray”, GuanoLad, abby. Plus everyone else I’ve forgotten. Some them have Kiwi accents, I’m told, but they all live here.
Heh. A bit less than 10% of active Australian dopers work in the porn industry. How’s that for a statistical blip?
True… So, that brings us up to about a dozen Aussie SDMB members. It’s a shame the country is so big- we’re all over the place! Still, it does make me wonder if I haven’t run into some of you inadvertently throughout my travels…
The problem with most potential DopeFests for me are that they tend to be held in a Pub of some kind, which are noisy, crowded, alcohol-soaked, smoky environments, which I hate and make me feel claustrophobic. In the past they have also been held at a time of day that was not convenient for me.
I am a social recluse, and very happy to be such. I probably still wouldn’t go to one if I was invited.
Well, I am clueless to where you live, but the Jersey ones have been at my home and probably will continue to be at someone’s home. I will try to do one every spring and hopefully someone steps in an organizes another at a different time of year. The last NYC one was at someone’s home. **Twickster ** has organized some great outings that involved seeing new and interesting things. They are great and I look forward to the next one. (Hint, Hint).
Gettysburg is a large outside picnic style get together. I might go one year if it works out. It sounds like fun. So, many of the North East ones are not Pubfests at all.

I’ve been to exactly one Dopefest and I had a blast.
I did drag my spouse with me and, as tdn mentioned up thread a ways, he didn’t have as good a time (not that he had a bad time). It’s like being the only one in the crowd that doesn’t know anyone and doesn’t get the in jokes. But, he really dug the restaurant we went to so that sort of made up for everything.
I’d do it again. It was fun!
In Boston, we booze it up.
But I would not be against at one at a house if someone would open their doors for one. Don’t look at me though. Dead cats, pizza boxes, etc…
My wife at least tolerates the dope events. She hasn’t vetoed me having them, of course it probably helps that she lurks on the dope. She has some clue to what is going on. She enjoyed the Gardens more than I did and I enjoyed them.
**Hal’s ** wife was a doper, so I guess it works out ok for her also. Some of the spouses have looked bored or uncomfortable, but not too many.
Jim
Actually, I’ve been to three, and none of them were at pubs! I am not fond of drinking either, though I don’t mind going to one as long as we don’t stay there all day long.
The last one I went to was at Zebra’s house. Being a bit of a recluse myself, it always amazes me when people open up their house to complete strangers. Look at What Exit - look how many people he has over his house. That always impresses me.
