Would you fire your boss?

I read of a survey that found that 20% of the people surveyed said that they would fire their boss if they had the power. Would you fire your boss? Who would you replace him/her with? You or one of your coworkers?

God no. Unless I could rehire her to run my life. She is wonderwoman.

Of course, she’s human and not every one of her decisions (managerially) is perfect, but she’s damned good at her job. Efficient. Smart. She puts up with ME. She absorbs a lot of the flak when the higher ups are pissed with me (which has happened way too many times in 2002 already). She even babysat for my son once! Did I mention efficient?

I guess I am lucky (though not in the minority, if 80% of polled folks wouldn’t can their boss either)

Yes and no.

The “official” boss (the manager of my store), I would fire in a heartbeat. He’s incompetent to the nth degree.

The real boss (technically the asst. manager) is fabulous. He does a great job. The only problem is that he has to constantly clean up after the official boss. And that he depends on the official boss to communicate all information from the company to him–which he doesn’t do.

Fortunately, the official boss is the manager of another store as well, and the company has decided that he should spend the vast majority of his time at that other store. So the asst. manager is the acting manager.

So, if I had a choice, I would fire the “official” boss, and promote the asst. manager to the manager position.

Lord almighty, yes. See this thread for the ugly details. I would replace her in an instant with my co-worker, a woman who has 25 years’ experience in the field to my boss’s five. Can someone please explain this situation to me? :frowning:

Heck yes. In a heartbeat. Can I? Please please please? He’s a bully, an ignorant, abusive, creepy man. Every time I talk to him, I feel slimy all over. I’m constantly amazed that he hasn’t been fired.

Duke, the situation is obvious, your boss has some enormous blackmail info on the college President (like she is sleeping with him/her and the Pres doesn’t want word out). That is the only way this kind of situation happens. Oh, and in my experience as an employment lawyer, the subordinates are getting all the blame from your boss for things not working out.

Not a chance. My boss is by far one of the best examples of what I think a person should be that I’ve ever found in my life. He’s amazing. He was threatening to take another position a couple of months ago, and I was utterly devastated (fortunately, he’s decided to stay on for a while longer). I know that I’m getting spoiled, because I can’t see how I will ever get another boss this wonderful, but at least I can enjoy it while it lasts.

I’d have to divorce her and I’m not about to do that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Holy goat-felching yes!!! The CEO is a racist cheapskate and the president is a balding two-faced bastard.

yes! Yes! Yes!
she is a lazy petty mean nosey backstabbing two-faced bitch.
I would replace her with the assistant Librarian, who is already doing all the bosses jobs.
And who would not walk up behind her employees and say “You know anyone who has a job should feel grateful. There are a thousands of people who would love to have your job.”

Yeah and how many of them have my experience, knowledge and ability, You bitch!

In a flash. I am soooooo tired of working for someone whose method of dealing with conflict is to jam her fingers into her ears and going “la, la, la, I can’t hear you”.:frowning:

In a nanosecond. I won’t get into the details, it’s a really long story that doesn’t seem to have an end.

I’d give the job to her assistant. He’s amazing. He does his job, most of hers, and he does it while having to deal with her daily dramas.

Hell no. The guy I work for, while occassionally hotheaded, is one of the best at what he does in the state, if not the Midwest region. As was said, he’s human and he makes mistakes, but he makes a hell of a lot less of them than I do

The actual owner of the company… well, sometimes I have my doubts, but then again he’s created, owns and runs a multi-million dollar company and I don’t so maybe there’s something to be learned.

No, I like my boss, he does a better job than I would(well, at least 95% of the time). As long as I get my work done my time, within limits, is flexible, and he encourages me to try new products in the cafe.

Not at all; and not only would I not fire her, I wouldn’t fire either of the team leads that I work with.

No way. My boss is awesome. I work at a small museum, and she handles all the really boring financial stuff, so the rest of us can concentrate on research, exhibits, and programs. She runs interference between us and our awful board of directors. She even brings us cookies. Heck, I’m dreading her going on maternity leave in a couple of months.

His bosses beat me to it last week. I would have fired him too, but not for the same reason they did. I would fire his temporary (hopefully) replacement even faster. That guy wouldn’t do his own job in another department, so now he gets the chance to not do his job in our department. No damn way!

No, but I’d have a talk with him about his work habits. He leaves at least an hour early every single night.
