Would you fly on 9/11?

As another anniversary of 9/11 approaches, I’m wondering how many people wouldn’t fly on that date. If you’re one of those people, would your refusal to fly be a genuine concern for terrorism, or something more superstitious?

If I had somewhere I needed to fly I’d happily fly on 9/11. Passengers fear of terrorist attacks make flights cheap.

Between the security hassles and the smaller planes, flying is much more unpleasant now. We’re going to Washington, D.C. later this month on the train.

I’d definitely fly on 9/11, not least because chances are good the flight would be less crowded.

I flew last year on 9/11 (out of DC) and didn’t notice any appreciable difference in the amount of people in the airport vs. any other day. When I booked my ticket, I didn’t really think about it until someone mentioned it later that I was flying on the anniversary of the attacks.

My parents are flying to London on 9/11. They’re hoping to get bumped to 1st class.

I am flying home from Guam on 9/11. I don’t see a problem.

I’d definitely fly. As it is, I’m flying a week later for a conference, but if it’d been set a week earlier I’d book the flight no questions asked.

Sure, I’d fly. I don’t see why anyone would be hesitant to fly on September 11. I don’t think I’m in any more danger on that day than any other day. Yes, the terrorist attacks were that day. But it happened once on that day. If, say, the bad guys were blowing up planes every year on the anniversary, then I’d probably take a train instead.

Sure, I’d fly on September 11. In fact, I did last year.

Bit of defiance on my part, actually.

I don’t fly often, but if there was somewhere I needed to be, I’d fly on 9/11. I’d be nervous as all get out, but I’d fly.

Guess I should answer my own question. I love flying. even with all the hassles. I’d have no qualms about flying on 9/11 or any other time.

Of course! I would feel safer than ever. Terrorists would want a surprise attack, and everyone would expect one that day.

I would not fly on 9/11
I would not fly for monkeys gone to heaven
I would not could not fly on a jet
I could not would not fly to see the Mets
I would not fly to see Ringo or Paul
but actually, I would not fly at all…

So the date thing is not really relevant. I suppose if I had to go somewhere Monday I’d be even slightly more inclined to take a train if possible, but not much. If the plane thing is done again on the anniversary, I’d figure it for 2009 or 2011, rather than this year, anyway.

No problem here. I would think if you were a baggage handler, a TSA worker, or an air marshal, this is the one day you do your job better than any other. If you’re a terrorist, you probably want to strike when people aren’t paying as much attention.

Of course, if I was al-Qaeda, I’d probably pull a half-assed scare (something like an abandoned bag) to remind people that I’m still around. Given all of the 9-11-five-year-anniversary commemorations planned, that’s probably not a major concern.

Yes, if I had the money and time off from school.

Yep, no question.

Heh, I’ll be leaving Los Angeles on the evening of the 10th and arriving in Sydney Australia on the morning of the 12th. So I’m not going to exist on the Earth on the 11th

That’s not all, on the trip back I’m scheduled to land 45 minutes or so before departure from Sydney.

You’re not flying Oceanic, are you? Wouldn’t want you to get lost

Oh, no. Qantas.

And I was rather whooshed until I noticed and thought about your Bold tag. I haven’t watched any episodes at all of the 21st century’s answer to Gilligan’s Island
