The cheese and sauce were not evenly distributed on my Double Down so half of it was too dry with just the chicken and the other half was all slippery because the sauce and melted cheese congregated there. I still tickied the enjoyed option though, because I cannot blame them since I got one less than a week after they came to Canada. Perfection could not be achieved in such a short amount of time.
How long ya wanna live…anyway?*

Paula Deen’s probably on it.
And put it on a pizza. Wrapped in a taco!
With guacamolito sauce!
I don’t think it look all that good, but I really don’t get all the 'OH MY God how could anyone possibly eat that much" stuff. At a fried chicken dinner 2 pieces of seems about average, with many folks going to 4 or 5. Two slices of bacon and slice of cheez arn’t all that much either.
All of which have nothing on the Tim Hortons Double Double Down.
No, thank you. It’s too much food all at once!
I liked it. It is a credible stab at chicken cordon bleu.
Add butter. Lots of butter.
Yeah, that’s my attitude, too. It’s like a 3 piece chicken meal, with one of the pieces replaced by a little bacon and cheese. That’s neither disgusting nor hugely tempting for me.
As someone who’s low carb to keep my blood sugar and blood pressure under control, it’s about the only thing I can eat if I’m at a KFC, with the grilled chicken of course, so I’m thankful it exists. I’ve only eaten 3 in the past year or so they’ve been available, and all 3 were fairly tasty. There’s no KFC near my home or work, and I wouldn’t go out of my way to get to one, but there is a KFC near a movie theater I go to once in a while. I’m glad the Double Down was an option when KFC was the only fast food source for a meal after work and before a movie. If I have lots of time, I prefer The Counter’s Burger In A Bowl just down the street from the KFC.
I don’t care for fried chicken, don’t eat bacon and only eat processed cheese of that type in a grilled cheese sandwich - so, yah. I’m gonna take a pass.
That being said, I really like a tilapia burrito from Maucho Burrito and I imagine that’s just as bad or probably worse, health wise, than the double down although at least my burrito has veg on it.
I don’t understand the people who are disgusted by a sandwich comprised of two pieces of meat with some cheese and bacon, no bun. I’m sure most of them have eaten many a sandwich with two pieces of meat, bacon, cheese - along with a bun or bread. Or hey, two pieces of friend chicken - along with biscuits and potatoes. FFS, stuffed chicken breast with a creamy sauce on top has pretty much the exact same chemical profile, eat it with some pasta as most do and you’ve got many more calories and a huge punch of sugar.
If 540 calories sounds like a lot to you, you must eat a semi-starvation diet (or think you do). 3 Double-Downs per day is barely enough for a normal-sized human to feel all right, much less be moderately active.
I don’t eat wheat flour and I consider chicken, bacon, and cheese perfectly healthy foods, full of energy and nutrition. Somehow I haven’t tried one of these yet, but I’d like to (grilled chicken variety).
Deep fry that half a stick of butter and you’re on!
I tried one a few weeks ago and it was underwhelming in taste. I like fried chicken, and KFC fried chicken at that, but it was mostly just salty and dry.
If I was with someone who ordered one, and they offered me a bite, I’d try it. Otherwise, it just looks like a messy way to eat fried chicken with some other unrelated things added. I’ll take a two-piece meal, please.
Inspired by this thread I went ahead and had a Double Down for dinner last night (my 2nd time having one, actually.)
It wasn’t dry because they had to cook the chicken fresh so the meat was quite juicy and tasty. I don’t normally like cheese with chicken but this has more of a cordon bleu flavor going on which I like. Biggest complaint is just how salty it is.
Also, I think it triggered my gout. I haven’t had a gout attack in 6 months and woke up this morning with my foot killing me. I’m blaming the cheese on the Double Down.
For me, the repulsion has absolutely nothing to do with the individual components or the calorie count - it’s the assembly. Two breaded, deep-fried chicken patties with bacon, cheese and condiments between them, meant to be eaten with your hands? This does not begin to compare with a plated portion of chicken cordon bleu, tucked into like a self-respecting, non-feral human being.
People who might not blink at pan-seared salmon served with grilled asparagus and shiitake on the side and paired with a nice pinot noir may still be disgusted if the same ingredients are presented as smoothie, and this is perfectly sensible.
KFC seems to be trying to carve out a niche for themselves with this sort of thing. “For your pleasure: one slop bucket of instant potato paste, canned corn niblets, a buried biscuit, pieces of deep fried breaded chicken, and a cup of powdered gravy, covered in shredded cheese. There are utensils available for those still clinging to a thin veneer of humanity.” Mmmmmmm.
I eat 6 roughly 300 cal meals throughout my day, I am on an 1800 cal a day nutritional profile by my diabetic nutritionist.
There is no way in fucking hell I would touch a doubledown unless the plane crashed in the andes and they were the only food left in the galley. At that I would probably rather eat a stewardess, less fat and sodium.
