Would you pay to watch another Blues Brothers movie? Who should be in it?

There was a documentary on them Sunday night which concluded with John’s widow saying she and Dan are working on another movie. The plot would be Elwood going to Purgatory to find Jake and the new catchphrase is “We’re ammunition from God.” Sounds like they want new faces for Jake & Elwood, probably the band too.

What do you Dopers think?

Who do I pay for them to not make this?

If Aykroyd really wants to rape a corpse, he can dig it out of the ground like the rest of us do.

No way. Leave well enough alone I say.

I went to see Blues Brothers 2000. But about ten minutes into it, the film itself jammed, overheated, and caught fire. I saw the picture soft, go a bit funny-shaped, then I saw a hole melt its way into the film and the fire start. I didn’t even know that was possible.

I never went back to see the movie, but from everything I’ve heard, the version I saw was a lot more entertaining.

I would not see it, but I might buy the soundtrack.

I would give the lead roles to Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen. The band? All the aging rock-n-rollers that are still able to function.

I agree that they should just leave it alone. 2000 had great music, but I can’t believe how much they just copied from the original. However, if they must make a new movie I think Jack Black would make a good Jake if they could work out the age issue. Perhaps they could pull off making a movie that takes place before the original. I don’t know who should play Elwood though.

I think there are way too many remakes these days, and this falls under the same category… what did they do about Jake in the last one, by the way? Just say he’d died in the intervening years?

I saw BB2000. It was okay, but without the smokin’ music, it wouldn’t have been watchable. John Goodman was barely in it.

If Dan Aykroyd wants to promote Blues music through film, there has got to be a better way to do it

What was Akroyd thinking? BB2000 was a waste of celluloid. The soundtrack was it’s only redeeming value. To think they could make another film worthy of the original is just delusional.

Blues and Blues-er-er?

Shoot me now.

IIRC, one of the first scenes in 2000 had the warden (Frank Oz) telling Elwood that Jake died while in prison.

Yeah, there is potential for one hell of a soundtrack. Imagine all the musicians Ellwood could meet while in Purgatory! As for the movie, who knows? Maybe they’ll take a completly different direction and have Elwood go straight.

The idea of another BB movie frightens me. Hell, the idea of BB2000 frightens me. If not for Goodman, I probably would’ve picketed.

No way. It was all downhill after one of the former band members was running a strip club in BB2000. Even The Penguin wasn’t satisfactory in BB2000. And when you can’t make The Penguin funny, you know it’s just time to call it quits.
