Would you try this toothpaste?

Twin Lotus Herbal Toothpaste. Hold on to your chair when you open the link, because it really does look like shit.

I bought this a few days ago because I thought the package was appealing and I generally dislike minty toothpastes, except for cinnamon (my fave is Close Up red gel, which you can’t get here). I was thinking this would have a lotus/eucalyptus flavor. Which is kind of does. Now I’m thinking that might not have been a good thing. I posted on facebook that using this product makes my mouth feel like it’s getting a foot massage (where in eucalyptus and similar essential oils are heavily applied).

Thanks goodness I only bought the small tube. I’m not going to throw it away, but boy does it make you think twice once you see it on your toothbrush. I will also try very hard not to look directly at it whenever I use it.

Try to think of it as chocolate colored? On the brush it kind of looks like a Tootsie roll.

I was making a miso based marinade and ended up with the same issue. The previous package of miso I had looked like peanut butter. This was aggressively brown. I managed to convince myself it was ‘dark chocolate colored’. And it was nummy.

If that was all I had I’d use it, but I won’t be picking any up at the store.

I don’t like minty toothpastes, either. I buy one at Trader Joe’s that is fennel flavored. Licorice-y. It is mild though, and the licorice flavor is gone in about 10 minutes.

Looks delicious!

I would only try it if it was my only option for toothpaste.

Twin Lotus Herbal Toothpaste. For a shit-eating grin.

From the review:

Ummm… Really? OK then.

If I had it in front of me, I guess I would try it, just to say I did. I’d probably smell it first, then put a bit on my finger and taste, before actually putting it on any toothbrush I wanted to ever use again. Just in case it really was shit.

Oh, and did anyone watch the video at the bottom of that page? It’s supposed to be an ad for the toothpaste but it has a real WTF moment at the end.

Tom’s of Maine used to have a fennel one and a cinnamon one, both looked like normal tooth paste. Not like that

Waddya mean? I’ve had a sleeping black guy in my mouth.

Short answer to OP’s question: No.

Longer answer: Noooooooo.

Never mind the awesome brilliant hue. (Meaning, let’s not even reach to that question.) With all the bad publicity about bad product from Asia (well, mostly from China, actually), I wouldn’t want to trust to the quality of any product that has safety implications.

Example: Last time I bought tires for my car, I explicitly insisted on American-made tires, not Chinese. (And it took some shopping around to find some.) I’d be nervous about trying toothpaste. Uhhh… Recall that there was a big thing not long ago specifically about imported toothpaste. Anybody remember how many people died from that, or suffered serious and permanent nerve damage from all that herbal anti-freeze? Not to mention the poisoned milk and poisoned pet food.

ETA: And if I DID try a product like this once and didn’t like it, I wouldn’t hesitate to toss out the rest.
