Skirt on a man = comfy in the summer and much cheaper, usually, than vastly-overpriced kilts.
A number of years ago, I seem to recall reading in Vogue about a designer line of men’s skirts (not kilts) that had been introduced, but according to one guy who wore it around town for a few days, he got a fair amount of unwelcome attention and it still doesn’t seem like a popular item for formal men’s wear around the office.
As for summer wear, you certainly see plenty of men wearing pareos, lungis, sarongs, etc., at least if you travel a bit.
I feel fine wearing a Sarong in Indonesia, but only around the house. The reason for not in public, is that Westerners are often thought pretentious if they wear the local dress while traveling. I’m rather the type that avoids attracting attention to myself.
If I was choosing, I’d wear something below the knee. Like what I’d see when I was in PNG.
Come to think of it, the older men in particular didn’t wear much at all above or below the knee, and I’d still probably feel more comfortable like that then wearing a kilt-length garment. Bit of cloth in front, some leaves stuck through the belt at the back. It’s what you’re used to I guess.
I would and have considered getting one or more for several years. The ones I have looked at are much more expensive than I was willing to pay. Now that it’s been put back in my mind again, I start looking again.
This reminds me of a segment I saw on Real People from back in the 70s. There was a man trying to make it acceptable for men to wear skirts. Video showed him walking around the city, maybe New York, in a sports coat, shirt and tie with a long skirt below the knees.
Occasionally, I will search for the segment or see what happened to the guy, but have never had much luck.

I play the bagpipes and so own two kilts. I only wear them when I perform. I have zero Scottish ancestry and don’t really like to draw attention to myself without a specific reason. Plus, a proper kilt is expensive. I don’t want mine to get worn.
I wore one on my high school’s field hockey team.
