WoW: Help a holy Paladin find a new home [Horde]

It’s looking like the time has come for me and my guild to part ways. Many of the people I most enjoyed playing with have either left the guild or stopped playing entirely, and my friends list further dwindles every day. I don’t want to quit playing WoW, but neither do I particularly want to continue playing in a guild (or on a server) where I no longer have fun running with my fellow players.

Now, the standard procedure when one is guild-shopping is to seek out listings on the WoW forums. The problem with that idea is that, by and large, I don’t like the people on the WoW forums. With that in mind, I thought it’d be a good idea to post this here instead. I know a decent number of people here play WoW, and there’s bound to be someone on here whose group has the type of members I’d enjoy playing with.

The playstyle I’m looking for is simple enough in theory: I’d like a laid-back, PvE-focused guild that does 10- and 25-man raids on a semi-regular basis, with no real raiding schedule or requirements beyond having fun with a group of people who aren’t jerks, aren’t idiots, and (for the most part) don’t completely suck; whose members play together primarily because they like playing with each other, and view the achievement of in-game goals as secondary to that purpose. Plenty of guilds meet one or two of those criteria, a few meet more, but rare is the guild that combines all of them at once. I’ve stumbled upon it once or twice in the past, but it seems like every guild that meets that description inevitably either turns “hardcore”, or else peters out once all the more amibitious members take off for greener pastures. Still, perhaps someone here has had better luck than I.

As for me personally, I enjoy raiding – especially with the right group of people – but I no longer have the time or inclination to be a hardcore raider. I’m good for one or two “raiding nights” per week, preferably on the weekends or late afternoon (7-8 p.m. EST) on weeknights, but I’d very strongly prefer not to have to meet any raid attendance requirements. I’m not as geared right now as I was at 70 – primarily because everyone I used to raid with left – but I’m not exactly in scrub gear either (2021 SP, 30.14% Holy crit, for the interested)…and if I may be so bold, I’m a pretty damned good healer. I’m always willing to help out with farm runs, guild heroics, leveling run-throughs and the like; I’m mostly in it for the company and for something fun to do.

So, there you have it. Anyone out there have a guild compatible with my playstyle that’d be interested in a shiny new Healadin? I eagerly await your responses!

One quick question–Horde or Alliance?

You could maybe get in with my guild (if you’re Horde), but I’m not sure if they would accept you or not. Attendance is light right now as we’re pretty much through everything, and healers especially aren’t showing up (we have them, they’re just not raiding, plus one just got pissy and quit healing with the CoH nerf).

We do have attendance requirements, but they’re pretty lax–keep a 25% attendance rate each month. We usually raid about 8pm EST, so time seems good. Company’s good, generally, although there’s such a huge group between raiders and social members that you’re not going to like everyone. The core members have been together for a long time, though–the officers came from the same EQ guild. We’re end-game raiding, but not quite to the ‘hard-core’ level. That does slow us down sometimes, since we don’t always have an available group of dedicated raiders of the right mix to get us ahead. That’s not really an issue at the moment though. I’d rate us as a casual end-game guild–we do have a raiding schedule and low attendance requirement, but we’re not hard-asses about it, and the roster tends to rotate a bit anyways thanks to members coming and going. It’s possible to lose raiding status, but also possible to gain it back–both based on coming to raids. Since we focus mainly on 25-mans, 10-mans aren’t run regularly, but anyone can try and get one running at any point if they want.

To my knowledge we’re not recruiting right now, but if you want to try anyways, I can PM you the guild website and you can apply. I can’t get you in as a social (that’s for RL friends) but that’s probably for the best. I’m not sure if they’d take in a new raider right now, since we’re basically just waiting for Ulduar to come out, at which point the regulars will probably crawl back out of the woodwork again. As a healer you might have a chance though.

There is a Doper Horde guild on Cairne, The Burning Dog Legion. I can’t say how active it is, since I’m not on Cairne, but members usually post some in WoW threads.

Are you over 25? If so,you may like TOG. It’s basically a guild of guilds - TOG members play on all different MMORPGS and, specifically, various different WoW servers. The age limit cuts out a lot of the wankerdom you find in the in-game chat channels.

Mr Aspy and I are in a microguild on Proudmore (consisting mostly of his workmates and other friends of ours :)) - we often team up with TOG members for weekly raids and other stuff that we don’t have the numbers for in our guild. The individual guilds tend to have names with the TOG initials - eg Thorns of Gold, Titans of Gold. More info on the website if you want to check it out.

Horde. Can’t believe I forgot to mention that. :smack:

Gotta run, but I’ll read the rest of the replies when I get back.

jayjay, you’ve reminded me that I do have a character in the BDL, lowly level 6 though he is. I should pop in and see how active they are.

Jayn, couldn’t hurt to take a look at the website, so if you want to PM it to me, that’d be great. It sounds as if your guild has a well-defined recruitment process, which might be problematic for two reasons: one, its focus may be more serious than I’m trying to be; two, test-runs or other required skill checks may be problematic since I don’t want to transfer servers until I’m certain that have a place to go (I’m currently on Spinebreaker). Do you think either of these things will be an issue?

Aspidistra, I checked out the TOG website, and they seem like a decent bunch. Unfortunately, the age limit is a bit offputting; while it so happens that I just celebrated my 25th birthday, any guild that wouldn’t have had me a month ago isn’t going to get me now. Many thanks for the recommendation, though.

Incidentally, this isn’t going to be one of those threads where the OP returns to shoot down every suggestion that gets put up; I’m just replying to give a better idea of what I’m looking for and (hopefully) generate some more responses. Any input at all is greatly appreciated.

Burning Dog Legion is very well alive and kicking.
