Wow, I've never seen such moderator kiss-assery on a message board before!

Where’s “here?”

I only found this board a month or so ago.

I believe what our illustrious and benevolent moderator (may splendor shine on his reign forever and ever) is not saying is that **Liberal **has a long and checkered past of being…well…controversial. He’s been temporarily banned for poor behavior at least once, pitted more than any poster in the history of the pit (I think) and caused more civil unrest than William of Orange.

I kind of dig him, actually. But he’s most certainly not a mod kiss ass, whatever his other fine qualities.

Of course they do. They even have a sign over the gate that says “Arbeit macht Freedent”.

If you’ve only been here a month or so, and people who have been here since 1999 are telling you that you’re wrong, isn’t there a possibility that you have no fucking clue what you’re talking about? Try sticking around a bit longer before you act on knee-jerk conclusions. After you read some more and figure out the modus operandi of the board, come back and make the same argument if you still feel that way. Oh, and when (if) you do, bring some fucking evidence. This is the wrong board to make unsubstantiated claims.

Christ, next you’ll be telling us that people are too bloody mean in the pit.

Yes, if there’s anything Liberal won’t stand for, it’s insufficient obsequiousness in the face of authority. :stuck_out_tongue:

Naw, that contract’s already been awarded.

I don’t know why, but this post cracks me up. Maybe because I so rarely see Ponder lose his temper.

Fair enough back at ya. That’s a reasonable interpretation based on your experience. Others have already addressed why the idea of Lib as a mod kiss-ass seems far-fetched.

What I specifically meant, leaving aside extraneous editorial comments, is that Liberal is a poster who is quite willing to address anyone on any topic and the idea that he would display obsequy to the staff–or, particularly, to encourage any other poster to defer to staff merely because they are staff–is pretty much a non-starter.

Oh, shut the fuck up you annoying git.

Now that I know this is what passes for kiss-ass flattery in Wales, perhaps I will take another shot at reading Dylan Thomas.

I may not be obsequious toward the mods, but I’m certainly not hostile toward them. I do respect their positions as representatives of the site owner, exercising the rights that he has conferred upon them. And while I may not hesitate to call out a screeching old hag who suspends me because she can’t be bothered to read for comprehension, I defend her when she is assailed by an angry mob that has gathered off-board to plot a random attack on her. I also recognize mods who are fair even when their non-mod biases are ridiculously extreme. So, on the whole, I think my attitude toward mods is balanced and reasonable.

Lib, I don’t think anyone wanted to imply that you are a wild-eyed mod-hater. I think it’s fair to say that you express your opinions freely and prolifically, and are not bound by any knee-jerk approval of mod actions, nor the converse.

Sorry, Revenant, I was out of town and out of touch for days at a time. I realize the discussion has moved on from this, but to the best of my recollection, this is how it actually went down. Others have posted search terms, etc. If you were there for the whole Unpleasantness, you might feel like I am actually downplaying what happened.

I think my point still stands; an outrageous action by an Administrator was met by almost universal outrage. When Moderators post as general posters, I don’t think they are shown much over-the-top deference. When they post as Moderators, they ARE mostly shown deference but still questioned and Pitted, and that is part of the rules of this board. I don’t see a lot of people defending the Mods and attacking n00bs (well, attacking n00bs, maybe, but not for their Moderator attacks).

In other words, I think your complaint is mostly baseless, Johnny Hildo, but completely support your right to make it.

And I, of course, would never retaliate Mod-wise against a member whose biases were ridiculously extreme.
