I’m not a fan, and I don’t care what he thinks. He’s a mildly entertaining low-to-middle level person in show business, and he has an opinion. So does everyone else.
I like Gaffigan, always have. He just reached a breaking point, it seems, and it came out. He may lose a fan or two, but that’s fine.
I like lots of comics, of all types - if they are funny. Gaffigan is.
Personally, I think Carlin is funny but didn’t agree with his politics. I don’t agree with Pryor or Eddie Murphy’s personal choices but they slay me. Don’t get me started on Paul Reubens.
I like Gaffigan, even if he and I might not feel the same way about politics. I like him even if he doesn’t like me.
The most often place I’ve seen/heard Jim Gaffigan lately is on CBS Sunday Morning (geez, I feel like I’m getting old, it’s a show my parents always watched). If he gets that “elderly” crowd, that’s a big chunk of active voters.
I was pretty much gobsmacked when I read that thread. He’s always been on my Mount Rushmore of folks you wouldn’t expect to lose their shit (along with Mr. Rogers, Ellen Degeneres, and Bob Ross).
Did you miss all the bad stuff on DeGeneres? She’s generally always had a reputation for being an asshole behind the scenes, but she’s been getting torn a new one for how she treats people right now, to the point that some countries even stopped airing her show.
Here’s just the top article I found on the storm that’s brewing right now:
People in Illinois definitely need less Madigan. Mike Madigan is the Mitch McConnell of Illinois. More accurately, since Mike has been in charge longer, Mitch McConnell is the Mike Madigan of the US Congress. [/hijack]
I can appreciate Jim Gaffigan. So many comedians are all “F-this” and kinky sex and how much can we shock people. Writing a funny routine without using the shock is difficult. He obviously has the vocabulary, and chooses not to use it. Until now.
I think burpo was referencing comedian Kathleen Madigan, who was name-checked in an earlier post. Or maybe you’re just joking and I’m getting whooshed…
A little surprising coming from him. He’s a funny comic but someone pointed out his patented ‘punchline microphone shake’ to me and now I can’t not see it.
