Wow, Kelsey Grammer is a Trump supporter? I thought he was intelligent

Mr. brown told me about the article discussing it, and here’s a link.

Without having thought about it beforehand, I would have guessed the actor was a liberal Democrat. I shouldn’t conflate the guy with his Frasier character, I guess.

Grammer has been pretty open about being a conservative Republican.

Fine. But why does he support Trump?

And from what I’ve heard with a couple of PAs who worked on productions with him, not all that smart.

In general, the idea that ‘Hollywood’ is exclusively comprised of hard-left liberals is really not true. There is a broad spectrum of political beliefs both in front of and behind the camera, and if there is a ‘liberal bent’ to the industry, it is primarily because creative work essentially requires interacting with a lot of people with diverse backgrounds and opinions, and virtually everybody but studio management belongs to and depends upon some kind of labor union to assure that they are getting fair treatment, health care, and residuals.

Why does anyone support Trump? Especially the people who have worked for or with him?

Stranger

His 18-year-old sister was raped and murdered by Freddie Glenn in 1975. Kelsey would have been 20 at the time. That could explain some of the conservative bent, at least.

He supports same-sex marriage, but the rest of his publicly stated political views are fairly odious.

Because if you’re wealthy and white and don’t care about progressive causes, a Trump presidency is still better for your interests than having a Democrat in office.

That’s the same approach as what Franz von Papen thought.

There are different possibilities.

Some conservative Republicans are yellow dogs, who will always vote for the Republican candidate regardless of who it is.

Some conservative Republicans might feel that getting Biden out of office is important because he is providing leadership to the Democrats, which makes the Democrats stronger and the Republicans weaker. And they might feel that Trump is the Republican candidate most likely to beat Biden.

Some conservative Republicans might feel that regardless of Trump’s faults, he had shown he can motivate voters to support him.

Some conservative Republicans might feel that while Trump won’t contribute much to the party’s agenda as President, he’ll clear the way for Republican in Congress and on the Courts to act.

And some conservative Republicans might really believe that Trump did a great job as President and will do so again if re-elected.

There’s an argument to be made against any of the above but these beliefs do exist.

Worked out about as well for him as it could have, but Grammar isn’t a politician. Just an aristocrat who supports the status quo because the status quo protects his money and his privilege.

Writers are intelligent. Actors are just the people who repeat what they wrote to the audience.

I could provide numerous counterexamples to both statements but suffice it to say that generalizing to stereotypes is never a great approach to understanding someone’s motivation.

What about directors and producers? Grammer has done almost as much of that as he has done acting.

He’s also a writer, having authored two books. One an autobiography from the mid 90s, another a mystery novel he wrote a couple of years ago.

So this isn’t a very useful statement.

Unless Glenn was well-known as a leftist or Democrat, I can’t see how this would matter. If Grammer is halfway intelligent, he’d understand that there’s no correlation between Republican elected officials and crime or conviction rates.

One of the biggest selling points conservatives use about liberals is that liberals are “soft on crime”.

Which is why I said “If Grammer is halfway intelligent” he’d understand that that’s bullshit.

Is it? Which group wants longer jail terms, more jail-worthy offenses, and the death penalty, and which doesn’t?

Sorry, I’m not going to let you start a debate about whether any of those things actually makes society safer.

The topic is Kelsey Grammer, and my point is that if he supports Trump because he somehow feels Trump in office will be more likely to prevent more people from suffering his sister’s fate, he’s an idiot.

1.) You don’t “let” me do anything.
2.) I was attempting no such thing, just pointing out that being “soft on crime”/“hard on crime” is an extremely well known dicotomy in liberal vs conservative politics and thus there is nothing confusing about the idea that early exposure to violence may have helped shape someone’s political beliefs.

Moderating:

Both: Stop making this personal with the accusations against one another. Carry on your discussion in good faith or step away.

Sorry … I should have said I’m not going to get pulled into that debate. And then I should have not gotten pulled into it!
