It’s not hard at all for me to believe it. A ghostwriter doesn’t call the shots. The person they’re ghosting for does. Just ask Tony Schwartz about The Art of the Deal.
A famous, wealthy man that people perceive to be well educated, who goes against the “liberal hotbed” of Hollywood to publicly speak favorably of Trump? This surely will qualify Grammer for Crony status. There’s plenty of room in Trump’s ego for well-placed fans.
The point of a dictatorship is that it upholds specific power structure which are important to the dictatorial government. A GOP-backed dictatorship would uphold power structures that benefit rich white conservative men. That would be the entire point.
The enforced conformity to the dictator’s whims and the horrible fear and uncertainty that engenders would be overwhelming even for rich conservative white men. Who can tell who would be the next victims to be purged? Would that kind of a life be preferable to having an opposing party in office?
I’m pretty confident that a Trump Presidency II would be materially similar to Trump Presidency I. Mostly Trump shitting in his own sandbox while the GOP goes about the business of entrenching regressive policies that benefit their donors.
There’s so much to be scared of, but if the GOP will grow a backbone to protect anybody from Trump’s ego, it’s the 1% that owns them. It’s also frankly… optimistic isn’t the right word, but sure… it’s frankly optimistic to think that this time it’ll be the rich white guys who suffer along with the rest of us!
Something tells me rich white men will do just fine whatever happens. The don’t need law and order (and never have), it’s just a bit cheaper at this point in time to use it. If “law and order” becomes more expensive than violence, they’ll abandon it as history teaches us.
You need to get up to speed. Read the Project 2025 policy manual put out by the Heritage Foundation. This is not conspiracy theory, they are right out front about it. They fully intend to make the President a dictator, and then enact a list of horrific “reforms.”
Or maybe even a nomination to Secretary of Homeland Security. He’s just as qualified as anybody else Trump might appoint.
It’s like somebody read Margaret Atwood’s A Handmaid’s Tale and tried to figure out a way to make that reality.
Oh, who am I kidding? Nobody at the RNC would read Atwood; they were looking through the internet for fascism porn and came across clips from the Hulu series. Those red robes are really striking and just the sort of thing they’d like to see every woman wearing.
Right. So absolutely terrifying for the ‘wrong’ kinds of Americans, but ultimately the same kind of wishlist the Heritage Foundation has had for decades.
All I’m saying is that if I’m a rich white conservative guy in America and I have to choose between Trump and any Democrat, voting for Trump isn’t necessarily against my personal interests. Morally bankrupt? Sure. Idiocy or lunacy? Nah, not so long as you’re willing to not give a shit about the other 99% of Americans.
Sideshow Bob is also erudite (although probably not progressive since he ran as a Reoublican). But basically the character is Frasier Crane with Big feet and a homicidal streak.
