Not really. We have enough knee-jerk reactionaries here, as is.
I’m not trying to slam her or anything but the whole “Screw this, I’m above paying!” mentality’s a bit of a put-off when she never even gave the board a chance.

No, not at all. Given the history (and large-scale current behavior) of the 'net having an initial response of ‘no way’ to pay-to-play is perfectly reasonable. And, given what most of the 'net looks like I completely agree: it’s not worth the money.
But not here, folks. It’s worth it to be here just because the adults-to-juveniles ratio is so damn HIGH compared to the rest of the world.
So don’t give people even a little hard time. They’re just reacting through what the history is. And it takes time for this place to sell itself.
She’s on another message board that she asked me to join…I sent her a PM linking to this thread but I haven’t gotten an answer yet.
Having that reaction is perfectly understandable but what I am objecting to is the manner in which she expressed it as she created an account, immediately demanded to know why she should have to pay to keep it, and, looking at her profile, hasn’t even been back since twelve hours after her last post, three days ago.
It comes off as very conceited.
Well, I will admit to being somewhat put-off myself, but I figured I would try to keep an open mind about it. Actually, I was impressed by the number of posters who tried to explain what’s what rather than just saying “Sorry you feel that way. Now go take a hike.” Also, since this ATMB, I assumed that discretion was the better part of valor.
Which one?
I know her (I’m the one that brought her here), and her and I go on many other boards.
I cruised through that other board and it appears that she started most of the threads there. :dubious:
I’m surprised that she even had the time to post here.
Truly, the value of this message board is the people. If you just wandered in a day or so ago you’re not going to be able to fully appreciate that yet, so you should give it some more time.
Pretty much, for just about anything you want to know, there’s someone here who can tell you the answer. I’ve even gotten some answers to work related questions, myself.
I think I agree with JC with one proviso – substitute “Maturity Level” for “adults-to-juveniles ratio.” The overwhelming majority of our teenage complement falls into one of two categories: (A) Emotional and intellectual maturity beyond their years, and ability to participate in intelligent adult discussions as an equal; or (B) Young and relatively naive but bright and willing and eager to learn. And that carries over into the “have reached legal and chronological adulthood” level – the community tends to sluff off those who are unwilling to distinguish between their own prejudices and what rational discourse will provide, and those who are unwilling to accept others different than themselves as their equals, with equal rights and equally privileged to hold opinions different than their own.
I humbly accept correction, Poly. That’s what I meant, of course…that we’re short on the ‘LEET!’ sort of juvenile and have a very high ratio of ‘seekers of knowledge’ and ‘lovers of discussion’.
And God bless us, everyone. I’d go mad without this place.
I’m sort of surprised that this topic is still going on.
While this site is nice and I’m flattered that all of you want me to stay, I might. I’m just hoping someone will like me enough to want to pay for my subscription.
Heh.
Go here and ask for someone to pay for you. They most likely will.
I would if I had the money, Kel.
But mine was paid for as well.
I think it’s a $9.95 lifetime fee, providing you don’t get banned or whatever.
I don’t know if this is the proper place for this but, I want to subscribe to this forum. I have never and will never pay online, where can I send a check/money order/cash to become a member?
This may seem odd considering I run an internet company that tells customers everyday how secure our tobacco site online is, but I cannot do it myself.
I like it here, though it seems a lot more people lean left then my right, its the only place I can read intelligent arguments rather then spewing of the fingers.
Another plus is if I rejoin the service I can have a place to vent
I’m not sure I followed that about the spewing of the fingers, but I could pay your fees online and you could reimburse me via check or MO.
[aside] When you eat in restaurants or purchase items in stores with a credit card, do you let them see your credit card number?[/aside]
I need your address, I will send you the MO sometime this week. When you get it let me know so I can change my nickname before you create my account, that would be appreciated. Obviously I would no longer be LookingAround.
dills@REMOVETHISjohnstowns.com is my email your address as well as email address will be kept confidential and deleted after the transaction goes through.
As for your aside, for the most part I don’t have to worry about that because most places I frequent for shopping allow you to use the card machine yourself. As for eating out, its against my wifes wishes to eat out, and no I am not joking long story but shortened, years ago someone messed with her food, so I haven’t ate out since we where married. (But yes sometimes I sneak a McD’s or something while on the go)
Add on :
Spewing of the fingers too me is much like spewing of the mouth, throwing out garbage to try to make a point. But with a keyboard.
This is not possible. However, it is possible for another member to turn your account into a paid account. So you wouldn’t need to do anything; just keep on using the same account you have been the same way you have been. I presume that AHunter3 knows how to do this, since he made the offer.
