Damn, they nailed that one! They’re all from Ukraine?
They’re based in Moscow.
They covered a ton of Chicago songs. Also this great version of “September” by Earth, Wind, & Fire.
I struggle with it a bit. Apparently they had no sheet music to work with—just recordings and some videos. It’s impressive as hell in a way…they really get the nuances. But…why not make their own music, add to the world’s selection?
There’s a really interesting background to some of this stuff that came out of that part of the world.
Ribs (рёбра, translit. ryobra ), also known as music on ribs (Музыка на рёбрах), jazz on bones (Джаз на костях), bones or bone music (roentgenizdat ), are improvised gramophone recordings made from X-ray films. Mostly made through the 1950s and 1960s,[1][2] ribs were a black market method of smuggling in and distributing music that was banned from broadcast in the Soviet Union.

ISTR that Leonid et al did some of that (back in the day) so they could have equipment to play. I imagine if caught the consequences would have been pretty dire.
ETA: They apparently raided hospital dumpsters for old xrays for discarded films so they could distribute the music.
River_Hippie and lobotomyboy63-
Impressive videos. Thanks!
SRV was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. Majestic, San Antonio, 3rd row.
Saw EWF at a casino in Tucson.
probably can’t post this
heres one of the most famous covers in the past 40-50 years sung with the original artist and the group doing the cover
Thanks for that! Pat Travers was one of my favorites back in the day. Puttin’ It Straight, Blues Tracks and Makin’ Magic were in heavy rotation at one point in my life. Got to see him live once in a fairly intimate bar venue. It was great!
Wow, that’s fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
Writing music is a whole ‘nother animal.
As I said before (but this is a new thread
), I just love My Grown Up Christmas List by Kelly Clarkson.
Oh, she just belts it out. It was apparently first sung by Amy Grant. But she just doesn’t say it with as much feeling. I feel like I’m about to fall asleep when she sings it. What more can I say
.
Very nice!
Been awhile since I posted in here. I did a search, doesn’t look like I posted this in this thread. Here’s a cover of Randy Newman’s, “Last Night I Had a Dream” by Fanny.
I love Nickey Barclay’s showmanship, grit and growl, and the ladies just killed it, like they did everything they played live. I’d love to have a GOOD recording/video of more of their live stuff. Their producer had his own ideas, and the records just don’t capture who they were.
Sorry about the quality. Looks like a VHS recording.
“Love Has No Pride” with Bonnie Raitt and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Oh my, her voice brings me to tears every time.
