Wow, that's a great cover of that song

Interesting, I wonder what it was about TVU version that made the Cowboy Junkies think, “I can turn this into a haunting melody”? Not that I don’t love the Underground’s version - I do!

Greg Kihn did some nice covers on his unheralded album Mutiny, including “I Wish It Would Rain”, “Femme Fatale”, “Anastasia”, “Not Fade Away/Mona” and “Subterranean Homesick Blues”.

Post Malone, who I have never heard a single song from, just did a great version of “Them Bones” by Alice in Chains. Well worth a listen even if you haven’t heard the original song.

I quite enjoyed that, thank you!

While looking for the best :S" song, I ran across this cover. A tribute by an Irish singer to one of her best friends:

Post Malone is great - he’s also done Better Man by Pearl Jam and a whole charity Nirvana concert during Covid. He has a great voice for grunge.
And when he was 17 and clean-faced, he did this:

Another vote for the Cowboy Junkies’ version of “Sweet Jane”.

Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt” has been mentioned umpteen times already, but I also find Eric Whitacre’s slow and quiet choral arrangement genuinely unsettling. At 7 minutes long, it’s a very different vibe.

Nazerth’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s “This Flight Tonight”.

Lana Del Rey does a great cover of Sublime’s “Doin’ Time”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qolmz4FlnZ0

I’m a huge fan of Sublime but LDR’s cover is superior.

This cover gets stuck in my head, Guns n’ Roses covering “Dead Flowers” by the Rolling Stones:

This is a nice cover of Can’t Buy Me Love - especially the base line. Paul is one of the more brilliant bass players, but this kid beat him on this song.

I’m endeavoring to listen to every version of “Hey, Joe!” ever recorded and I think I have finally landed on my favorite. The bass line (played on a guitar, I think) by Masayoshi Kabe (aka Louise Louis) is brilliant. From Yokohama, 1967, I give you…The Golden Cups!

Sounds like a bass to me.

Continuing the theme, a funkified version of the Stones…

I never knew the first line to this song until now.

I can’t stop watching this cover of Muse - Hysteria https://youtu.be/2-U3C2fiAL8?si=ukSPQ74PJrVZ40zs

Wow, just wow!

Dang. Reminds me of the time I went with my roommate to his father’s studio and his 9 year old stepbrother played Rush’s Tom Sawyer on the drums effortlessly.
