Wow, that's a great cover of that song

Wow, that was pretty cool. I like the up-tempo vibe. Great pipes.

An acoustic nod to Ozzy.

This one is a little different. The National Anthem… blues

A different cover of Big Yellow Taxi was mentioned upthread. I really like this one.

Haven’t heard this in years until recently but I just caught folk duo Brewer and Shipley’s cover of Jim Pepper’s gonzo jazz peyote chant “Witchi-Tai-To.” They turned it into a compulsively sing-along campfire chant. Only in the 60s, but it works. Must have raised audiences to their feet dancing and singing.

That does not sound like Stuart Adamson…

I didn’t know how well Brittany Murphy could sing. Some might say that this song shouldn’t be covered because Freddie Mercury. Whatever. I think she does a great job. It’s obviously from some DVD extra, so some surplus fluff in there before she gets going:

Yeah, whatever. There are some great ones out there. Hard rock instrumental of Don’t Stop Me Now.

I like it!

A beautiful cover of The Residents On the Way to Oklahoma:

A couple of fun covers by the Moroccan Sheepherders. The band’s enjoyable, the vocals are great, and the singer’s dancing is worth the price of admission by itself.

Would I Lie To You, a Eurythmics cover.

Promises In The Dark, a Pat Benatar cover.

That really is good.

Discourse ended up putting your link into a Onebox preview. Here it is embedded for anyone who missed it.

Wow. Thanks for this! Drinking morning coffee and listening. These videos always give me chills and make me think we’re all going to be okay after all. Pretty good start to a morning!

I made the third post in this thread, years ago, and since that day, I’ve wanted to post about a cover that I just can’t link to on Youtube, as it’s inexplicably not there. I’ve decided it’s not going to magically upload itself, so I’m just going to tell you about it, and if it sounds good, you can seek it out from your favorite music provider.

(EDIT: Mason has other live performances of the song on Youtube. They’re not the same, though they are also interesting, more blues-y renditions.)

It’s a cover of, “Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys”, recorded live by Dave Mason and Jim Capaldi on their “40,000 Headman” tour in the late 90’s. It’s a wonderful rendition, very different from the version Traffic recorded. It contains some of my favorite guitar work from Mason, who lays downs a two-minute-long solo that is over all too soon, while Capaldi provides rough vocals well-suited to this version.

I think you can buy the mp3 on Amazon for $1.99.

Nope, it’s 89 cents on Amazon. The whole album is $7.99.

The original is a classic. This version takes it somewhere else and gives us another wonderful song.

Found it on YouTube!

Listed as just Capaldi. But if you read the entry, it’s “Dave and Jim”, and can be found on the 40,000 Headmen tour live CD. Bewitchingly acoustic…

THAT’S IT! THANKS!

The album pictured, “Let the Thunder Cry”, was recorded in 1981, and this version was recorded on the “40,000 Headman” tour in 1998. Just totally mislabeled. Thanks again for finding it, though it’s a little embarrassing for me that you found it in like an hour. . .

So, a teenage drummer* in an up and coming rock band accepts a challenge on social media to learn and play a song in 4 hours. Here’s the result:

*Paulina Villarreal of The Warning. She was 17 or 18 at the time.

Wow! Great.

Metal band does “Died in Your Arms Tonight”; thought it was neat.

Everybody (i. e. almost no one) knows that the 1982 album “Shoot Out The Lights” by Richard and Linda Thompson is one of the greatest albums of all time, at least the second greatest break up album after Bob Dylan’s “Blood On The Tracks”. But there’s an extended version of the album with a live CD attached that has a beautiful cover of Dylan’s “I’ll Keep It With Mine”, a song Dylan wrote for Nico of Velvet Underground.
