Sorry if I missed it but did we really get this far without a link to Richard Thompson covers Britney Spears’ Oops I Did It Again?
As long as I’m deep into my saved music favorites…TNAFF covers Steve Wariner, Some Fools Never Learn
Always liked that song, nice cover!
Eddie V just hits the vocals of “Reign O’er Me” out of the park…the violins are totally into this. Pearl Jam VH1 Rock Honors "Love, Reign O'er Me" "The Real Me" - YouTube
IMO, the best cover of America is by the Swedish sisters First Aid Kit. Here they are performing it in front of Paul Simon.

The Once doing “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” - wow. https://youtu.be/pHVlKh67Gik
Enjoyed that!
That was beautiful!
Al Kooper uncovers This Diamond Ring, which he wrote, by recording it years after Gary Lewis made it a hit. He felt like recording it himself, sounding like he’d imagined it originally.
For some reason, I have failed to make a connection here:* my favourite record* is a remarkable cover version.
Captain Beefheart’s I Love You, You Big Dummy.
The Original; and
The only way I can describe the Magazine version is this: if you had lived a chequered life, and as a consequence were reincarnated in a downgraded form - specifically as the clapper of a bell - this is what it would be like.

Gregg Allman’s version of Midnight Rider is my favorite version of the Allman Brothers song.
The Molly Hatchett version of Dreams (I’ll never see) is a great version of the Allman Brothers song, Dreams. Not better, but different and good in it’s own way. The best covers take a song and give it a twist only the new artist could, and make it a wonderful new thing all its own, and Molly Hatchet did just that. They added, “(I’ll never see)” to the title of their song, which I thought was unusual, but perhaps helps distinguish their version from the original.
My vote goes to Springsteen’s version of Stayin Alive
Its right up there with the Miley Cyrus version of 50 ways to leave your lover on an anniversary special of SNL. I have not found a great online clip of this one.
She also does several great covers in her “backyard sessions” - all on Youtube.
Placebo: Running Up That Hill
Serena: Running Up That Hill
And for good measure… Josh Pyke: Wuthering Heights
Kate Bush is eminently coverable, in my opinion!
I hate that cover almost as much as I hate Cash’s Hurt and Jules’ Mad World.
Tedium does not excite me.
And to make it worse, the nightclubs I go to switched from *very *occasionally playing the actual KT version (early on a Sunday morning, when the club was empty), to playing the Placebo version. All. The. Fucking. Time.
You know who does an awesome Kate Bush cover? R&B artist Maxwell. Without being a downer twat about it. God, I hate Molko’s nasal whine.
Those other covers were nice, though.
