Wrong handed lock

I bought the wrong handed (expensive) Baldwin lock. Can this still be installed with just the handle going the wrong way? Otherwise, how does one change the handedness of a lock?

Thanks

The lockset it was replacing was correctly handed. Can I just switch out the interior handle?

Please explain more clearly what you mean. Provide the exact model of lock or even a picture. It sounds like you have a lever handle extending in the direction you don’t like. Some such locks are reversible, others are not. The details matter.

ETA: Just mounting a lever handle in the other direction usually results in having to lift the handle to open the door rather than pushing down on it.

It is a Baldwin Landon 85345.

Basically the lockset is in the door. The handle points the wrong way. The latch (bolt?) is withdrawn and will not deploy.

This is the Baldwin Landon 85345 installation guide. You can have the lever point in the other direction by loosening set screw and rotating it (see Panel 14). If the latch won’t activate something else was done wrong during installation. Depending on the latch design it may work either way the lever handle is rotated.

Well remove all the parts from the door, and assemble it outside the door in the way that you will need it.
Test it out… find out what it feels like when its working correctly. How does the latch and deadlock connect in ? How to align the axle ? much easier to debug when you can see !
Then look into the holes in the door and see if the way is clear…A moving part of the lock system might touch onto door …

For the following tests, you temporarily place a handle and axle thingy in place , just for the purpose of the test.

Place the interior assembly into the door, and test it. And screw it firmly into place and test it.

Place the latch into the door, and test it, and then secure it and test it again.

Install the deadlock into the door, and test it and then secure it and test it again.

Feel free not to secure anything until you have it all in place and tested - unless you find that it falls apart when testing.
