Ok, this might be a stupid question. A friend sent me a clip of the final scene of the season finale of Fox’s “Fringe” as I’m a alternate history fan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qfjMraEE7o ). In the clip, the main character, FBI Agent Olivia Dunham, ends up in an alternate universe where the WTC still stands. As the scene pulls ways, there seems to be a satellite dish near the top of the tower she’s in (2:34 in the clip). Did this dish actually exist in the real WTC and what was its function?
I can’t comment about the dish in particular, but there was certainly plenty of communications equipment on the roof. Here’s a closeup of the roof of the North Tower.
In fact, the World Trade Center was such a popular location for antennas that, after the towers came down, there was a massive communications problem in New York City, and the FCC passed special rules to expedite the relocation of WTC antennas to different sites.
